Kobe a mentor to Critt

Kobe a mentor to Critt

He has also taken on one more role: teacher and mentor to guard Javaris Crittenton.

To Crittenton, who called the media frenzy surrounding Bryant "a fun experience," Kobe has been "a cool teammate," willing to tutor him during practice.

"Kobe's been helpful at teaching me the different options in the offense," Crittenton said.

"I mean, I ran through the triangle in high school and it was helpful and I'm benefiting from that now, but it's different options and different sequences that you have to go through and he tries to break down the offense for me.

"He tells me, 'You call this play if the team is in a blitz defense,' and, 'If they're in this defense, then you call this play and you try to look at that option and this option.' Reading the defense is what he's really been helping."

For Bryant, working with Crittenton pays forward the good deeds Ron Harper did for him early in his Lakers career. "That was my guy," Bryant said.

"I enjoy doing it for players who I can see have a will. He's extremely talented and he has a great work ethic. . . . It's very easy to pull him aside and help him out.

"In that role, in this system you have to see all your options. Not only see all your options but when to use them, when to use them as counters against the defense. It's like a quarterback almost. He has a big challenge ahead. I'm just going to try to help him out as much as I can."

When Bryant himself needs counsel, he turns to Phil Jackson, whose future with the Lakers might be tied to Bryant's.

"Phil's my guy. I confide in him," Bryant said. "Phil is just a great person to be able to bounce things off of. A lot of times I like hearing his stories from the old Knick days. We talk about things like that. He loves the game and I do, too. It's easy to sit around and talk about that."

Critt is SOOOOOOOOOOO talented. Farmar is going to be an average bench player..... maybe as good as Brevin Knight if we're REALLY lucky... while Critt is going to be the real deal. I'd love to give the majority of the minutes to Critt who has the biggest upside.

What a joke!

Did you happen to see last night's performance? Farmar lQQks great!
"Why can't America realize that falling in love with Kobe doesn't mean breaking up with Michael?" Rick Reilly

Bryant, who will be representing Team USA for the first time, told Gasol: "Being that we lost this series, you (guys) have no chance at a gold medal. I ain't goin' 0 for 2, homie."

Farmar looked like the starting PG of the LA Lakers last night. Incredible speed and quickness, great defensive effort, poise in running the offense, and the ability to knock down open shots. I think his big problem was trying to do too much shooting in the SPL and early preseason games. He is shifting towards being the facilitator and playing lock down D, which is where he excels.

Gotta love everyone who just sticks some of our most exiting and promising young players in a frickin' box as far as what they are going to be at their best in this league. To justify their current flavor of the day allegiances or Kobe parroting. Not to mention needing a new vision RX regarding this take on Farmar from last night's performance.

Kinda what I and anyone with even decent vision saw last night. Critt is going to be special it seems clear to me, and I look forward to seeing both of them on the floor at times, spelling Kobe. Stop marginalizing one "good" player to show support for your other good player. We need em all.

Hmm.....Kobe mentoring teammates? Teammates that in his mind have the potential to be great?

Sounds like a guy who's headed out the door really soon.

The media actually reported this?

Man, I'd sure like to see Crit and Kobe start sometimes in the preseason. It's like how we wished Eddie Jones were still here with Kobe.

I don't think mentoring off the court would be too bad either like telling him to stay out of Colorado hotels during the off season would be a nice start...

Yea yeah yeah. Its all nice talking about the secrets of the enigmatic triangle, but the real question is will all this complexity translate into wins.
