Didier 'DJ' Mbenga Appreciation Thread

Watching Kwame Brown take over last night for the injured Andrew Bynum
was just revolting and vomit-inducing. That man has no business setting foot on a basketball court. It looks like he's been neglecting weight training and opted for hot-plate training instead. We need to make a move for someone who can keep us on track, that would be better than Kwame Brown. I know it's not an attractive fix, but I think Webber could at least do a better job than Kwame Brown. Brown's play makes you want to throw something at good ol' Mitchell Cupcake for squandering a 20+ ppg scorer for a 4ppg screwloose nutbag. I won't even bother watching any games that include Kwame's ugly face starting in. You can flame all you want to Kwame lovers, but you can't deny that Kwame sucks and pale's in comparison to Bynum or even Mihm for that matter.

Kurt Thomas should be the talk of the town as of now.

The Lakers don't need to make a move for the sake of making a move. Kwame played great for us last year as the starter and this year the team is much better. The only reason they go after a Big is if Bynum is going to be down for a long time. As far as I know we still don't know the results of the MRI.

Nah, we've needed another big man for awhile. We have an extra roster spot. It might be possible we are leaving it open in case we are able to make a move by the trade deadline.

Kwame will be serviceable for us...as he always has been since he was forced to start at Center almost two years ago.

The depth behind him is the problem with Ronny being his only backup right now.

We've won fine with Kwame in the past....he just has to play within his role and the team needs to adjust to that. Drew has spoiled us with his offense and greatly improved defense.

Exactly. Anyone who feels we should stand pat in favor of letting Brown start is either in need of a brain or on some powerful drugs. I can't stand it when folks pretend to be content with these sorry players like Kwame and Sasha. It's like reading a memo on the importance of a baby's pacifier. We should stand pat in favor of Brown starting, at least until we hear more about the extent of Drew's injury.

Overreaction has never been a wise or strategic stance for management.

Unless we can get great scoring from our frontcourt players, it's likely that we will need a trade to stay afloat. The Lakers will not be able to comply on the easy baskets that Bynum gave them (e.g. alley oops).

I know nothing has been declared as far as Bynum's injury goes but take in account that Kwame has already been injured. What happens if he gets injured again? We will have no realistic trading assets if a trade presents itself. This is not overracting, simply cautious thinking.

We only have to wait a matter of hours most likely to get the feedback on Drew's injury, we can't wait that long?

good idea, giving Mbenga a 10day wouldn't hurt (though there better players out there) , but Id prefer one of those centers we had during the pre-season.

Comical, and wrong in my opinion. It's called planning ahead. Protecting yourself in the "likely" event that the worst case scenario plays out. Brown has done nothing in his time to warrant such a gesture. He had a few good games, but even then he didn't amaze. He's pathetic. This team will turn up its defensive intensity without Andrew, and will try to get more transition buckets.

This line:up

Kwame
Odom
Ariza
Kobe
Farmar

can be a defensive juggernaut if properly focused.


We will probably lose a few more games, over the next 4-6 weeks (my gut about Andrew's absence, based upon nothing other than the fact that it doesn't seem as if he blew his knee out), and the end of game situations get a little tighter with Kwame on the court instead of Andrew, but aside from that - this team has been running people, I don't think that we automatically fall apart without Andrew.

Specifically, without Andrew, I think we can play tougher defense and potentially pick up more transition points.
