On the 360, try again maybe? On the alley-oop, just don't dunk it, come down with it and try again.

That makes too much sense.

I'm ok with the fan vote on the dunk contest. Neither should have one, but one guy had to win. So really it doesn't matter in this case.

Shannon should get a viral video out there showing off some real dunks, like Dwight had with his 'making the superman dunk', if nothing else it might help his reputation as a dunker.

My idea

Have a spin wheel with about 20 of the best dunks ever done in the contest. Whichever dunk the participant lands on, he must not only do it but also use a variation of the dunk in further attempts. This would prevent any sort of easy dunk from being done.

It was one of the only good ones, but still in years past, that probably wouldn't get him the title in the previous two ones he won.

That's actually not a bad idea really. Either that, or incorporate a challenge system where a famous dunker tells the competitors which dunk to pull off.

Of course, you'd also want one round to be purely upto the competitor. But, in the interest of keeping things interesting, having dunk challenges or a random draw for the type of dunk to do, could help.

To take it a step further, contestants should only be selected if they can demonstrate that they can perform a certain number of 'staple' dunks.

No they did that stupid wheel thing in 2003 or some time in the past decade and it was dumb. This was the worst dunk contest I have ever seen. Why didn't Shannon just bring it back down on the alley-00p, or try the 360 again. The best part of the contest was Charles Barklay.
Every time I begin to ask, "Is he really as great as I think he is?" ...He proves that he is.
Every time I begin to wonder...He proves it...That is why I won't lose hope in him.
You know who I am talking about.

That was the worst dunk contest ... maybe ever.

Shannon's still our boy, but man he was disappointing. No creativity in his dunks whatsoever.

Slava laughed at the suggestion his skills might be affected by the down time. "Are you kidding?" he said. "Basketball is like ball. It's all a circle."

BEST VIDEO EVER ... AND AND THE SECOND BEST.

If you fail to advance to the second round you become a prop for one of the two guys who do advance. You win or you get posterized. Simple as that.
