Coach of the Year???

Coach of the year conversations are starting up but with one name not mentioned, Phil Jackson. It seems as if everyone wants to look over the Laker coach because he is so well known. Even though he has 9 rings, why can’t he be considered as the coach of the year in the NBA?

Compare last year’s roster at the start of the season with this years and you only see one major addition in Derrick Fisher.

The Lakers lost Shammond Williams and Smush Parker from the 06-07 squad.

This year we saw Brian Cook and Maurice Evans go to Orlando for Trevor Ariza, and of course the Kwame Brown/Javaris Crittenton trade for Pau Gasol.

Now the Lakers are a Western Conference best 39-17 and sitting atop the Pacific Division. Our bench is virtually unchanged, but is now one of the best in the entire league. Is that luck or good coaching?

My final answer is that Coach Jackson took a chance to come back to the Lakers and is leading his young team to the promise land. Doc Rivers got handed two great players for almost nothing, it wasn’t his coaching that got them the league’s best record. In all honesty I think anyone that knows what a double dribble is could coach the Celtics to 60 wins.

The Lakers are poised to continue to be a team to be dealt with for at least the next 3-4 years and are on track for another dynasty.

Can anyone remember who coached them to the last dynasty?

Phil Jackson, NBA coach of the year 2007-2008.
