Who woulda thought it would take 5 months for you to come in here and make that claim then? |
Because I never felt the need to talk baseball. I basically hate the sport.
Young players that start hot usually cool down. Now, I didn't think that the Twins would be in this position; the White Sox taking over the division and either the Sox or Yanks taking the WC would have been my prediction if I had posted in here before. |
So....kick 'em when they're down?

| 95 Wins haters, and Tigers are going to the playoffs for the first time in 20 years. Sucks they pissed away the division, congrats to the Twins, but I still think we have a chance in a 5 game series against the Yanks. |

If the Yanks are the better team (and I'm not convinced they are), then a 5 game series is what you want.
One thing I am confident of, is that the AL will win the title this year. NL has some bad teams. Too bad, I love the NL. _________________

Congratulations....
You guys are the best team in the league, IMO.
Zumaya...Rogers..Bonderman...Granderson...Casey..Guillen...LEYLAND...Polanco...Thames
Those guys did it for you.
Oh and Pudge aswell...He called 3 terrific games behind the plate. His importance is undervalued amongst the casual fan. |

WORD! Congrats to the Tigers. Your pitching staff was just unbelievable this season. Even though they beat my favorite team, I'm not mad. I will root for you guys in the next round. GOOD LUCK

Here is my post from 6 months ago......
| GuRu wrote: |
It occurs to me that most of you wont even be familair with most Tigers players, but with a little introduction you might see that they do have some talent.
Lets meet the pitching staff:
Kenny Rogers
Everybody remembers him from the imfamous cameraman attack last season. A hot head no doubt. I was a little upset the Tigers paid him so much ($8 million) at his age (41), but hes looked good so far. His first start was a success. A solid veteran lefty with good control. Not going to bowl anyone over, likes to keep his pitches arounf 80-85 mph and grind them out with methodical location and situational education. He should be good for 15 wins and a decent ERA.
1-0 with a 1.5 ERA - 6 IP - 3 hits
Jeremy Bonderman
Most people became familiar with him last season as he was right near the top of the AL in wins going into the All-Star break. Unfortunately innuries prevented him from reaching 20 wins.
Great fast ball around 98, Ive seen it hit 100 on the gun before, though he doesnt throw that kind of heat often, he has more control in the 95mph range. Hes only 24 and he's got loads of potential. Decent slider. Although Kenny Rogers is pitchign in the 1 slot, Bondo is the real ace of the staff. If healthy I expect at least 20 wins.
1-0 with a 1.35 ERA - 6.2 IP - 3 hits
Mike Maroth
A decent relatively young (27) left hander. The key for Maroth is that he is a lefty with 4 pitches and hes improved every year in a Tigers uniform. Great middle of the line-up starter. Not many lefties out there with 4 pitches (4 seamer, 2 seamer, curve, change) that they can throw well. Maroth is a nice change from some of the Tigers overpowering hard throwing studs. Id love 12-15 wins out of him.
Nate Robertson
Another lefty with a fastball. Nate is a hothead with a fastball in the 90's. The FB is decent but his real bread and butter is the slider. This guy sits down righties with regularity. If only he was more consistent. Nate really is a streaky pitcher. He can give you 5 good innings but completely fall apart in the 6th. Its not really breaking down, he just loses control. If he could reamin calm, he could probably move up in the rotation. A decent starter however based on his killer slider alone being lefthanded.
And now for the young studs...
Justin Verlander
Now this kid has potential. If you havent heard his name before...you'll soon know it. This kid throws with heat, High 90's and is a K machine. Another youngin (24) and hopefully the future stud of the pitching rotation for years to come. I havent seen the Tigers this high on a prospect in quite some time.
Joel Zumaya
Another young gunner (25) with an arm out of hell. He can throw 101 mph and locate it. Has improved over the past 2 seasons with Triple A and was finally given a chance to play last season. Made the opening day roster this season and came in and gave a great performance under pressure in the opener. I expect great thins out of him. DAYAM this kid can sling it. |

Wow....Wow......Wow.....
Im still kinda soaking it all in. You have to realize, that as a Tigers fan I havent expereinced this kind of success in 20 years, my entire adult life. Ive been living off memories and rehasings of the '84 team for 15 years now. But to win in such a fashion......it just feels damn good.
It was only an ALDS, but every Tigers fan believes it was more than that. It was David v. Goliath. And after a dream book season, the Tigers broke our hearts last week after getting swept by the hapless Royals and letting the Twins backdoor the division. Maybe it was fate.
I really cant say enough about this pitching staff anf this teams heart. This isnt Shaq and Kobe dominating the teo man game bowling over people.....this is a real team. T-E-A-M. Me and my buddies tried to determine who we would give the series MVP to last night, and we just couldnt make a case for any one player. Everyone contributed. Batting order 1-9. Pitching staff from Nobertson to Zumaya.
If anything, I am glad this team, these pitchers, and this coaching staff are finally going to get some of the credit they deserve. Here in Detroit they had a feature in which 16 Detroit sportwriters made their predictions, and ALL 16 picked the Yankees!
It feels like we just won the World Series, but there is so much farther to go.
Lastly I just want to say thanks to the classy Yankee fans on this site. Ive always loved to hate the Yankees, but with fans like KB8, bumrusher, and Vixter its hard because I associate them with that team and theyve always been classy.
Bring on them A's _________________ I Offered My Honor

Zumaya changed the whole complexity of the series.
Those 1 2/3's he pitched in game 2, shook the Yankees like how Dave Roberts rocked us in game 4 2004. |

Good win by the Tigers, it didn't surprise me at all. They were the best team in the AL for about 90% of the season. I am pulling for them to get by the A's, and then have a rematch of the 1968 World Series, only this time, the good guys in Red winning the title. Unfortunately, no Denny McLain or Bob Gibson this time. But there will be plenty of Pujols to go around. _________________ "Just to be safe, 5% of Americans bring their passports when traveling to New Mexico."

congrats to the tigers for winning the american league title. It seems after the series win against the yankees, the tigers have all of the confidence in the world. Again, congrats again, and good luck in the world series. _________________

You can listen to the radio call here for Magglio Ordonez's walk off HR in the bottom of the 8th to complete the sweep against the A's...Its a nice listen, I reccomend it.

GuRu did you hear about this report on Joel Zumaya that his injury in the playoffs were due to playing too much 'Guitar Hero' for PS2?
Reported on Countdown w/Keith Olbermann, not sure where else.
Seriously though... wtf? _________________
