sooner or later they gonna face the Yankees
seriously Detroit has been a HUGE surprise this year
Yanks like the last 5-6 years again with a shaky start
constantly underachieving, too old and too stupid...well I hope Steinbrenner has something up his sleeves or they gonna become a joke with that payroll and that little success. |

Its gonna happen to, @ Comerica, next week.
5/29 - NYY@DET - 1pm
5/30 - NYY@DET - 7pm

IMO they are underachieving. with a 200 mio. dollar payroll we were lucky to even make the playoffs last year and we have been thrown out of the playoffs every year easily.
Look at Randy Johnson. He is the definition of SUCK. Hasnīt done crap since we signed him last year. He is basiclly an aging ugly pitcher.
Yanks management suck.
Last underachievers (pitchers) we have signed
-Kevin Brown 16 mio a year
-Jared Wright 9 mio a year
-The Big Ugly, Randy Johnson 16 mio a year
-Vazquez
-Esteban
-Contreras
just to name some of the underachievers in the last 2-3 years.
The only bright prospects are Cano, Wang
Posada ainīt all that anymore, specially his poor recieving skills, Williams is washed up, our bullpen also sucks. Yanks need a makeover. get rid of some old high paid players and get some hungry young players. |

The Tigers have racked up 8 wins against Kansas City, IMO their record is deceiving. _________________

And?....
There is nothing deceiving about 20 games over .500 when youre look at their season as a whole so far. The White Sox have had 9 cracks at the Royals themselves so far this season, only they havent capitalized (only winning 6-9). Would you consider their 6 W's over the Royals decieiving?
Here is why its not...
1. Ask any baseball enthusiast, one important key to winning your division is to beat up on the bottom feeder, the Tigers have taken advantage and taken care of business, winning the games they are expected to win.
2. Its not abnormal. WhiteSox have played them 9 times (6 wins), Cleveland has played them 9 times (4 wins), Minnesota has played them 6 times (4 wins) and the Tigers have remained ahead of all those teams.
3.Ok....you think the Royals wins skews the record? Fine. Completely disregard all 8 wins against the Royals!! Just take them completely out. Ok, that would leave DET with a 25-14 record (.640). Even without those 8 wins, the tigers would still have a record (percentage wise) in the top 3 in baseball!! (behind Chi & St.Louis)
4. It would be one thing if Detroit wasnt getting it done anywhere else, but they are. they are 34-15, 19 games over .500, and you dont get there by luck. Besides completely owning the Royals they have dominated other series as well:
3 of 4 vs Rangers (23-23)
5 of 7 vs Cleveland (23-23)
2 of 3 vs OAK (22-24)
3 of 3 vs Seattle (22-27)
2 of 3 vs Cincy (27-20)
4 of 6 vs Minnesota (20-27)
I think that goes a long way towards validating their record, consistently winning against good teams)
5. The pitching and hitting has been stellar. Besides not really being able to fake it 45 games in, one thing you can really turn to for an indicator is pitching, and so far the tigers have been far and away the best in the majors in both starters and bullpen.
- They lead the league in starters ERA
- They lead the league in bullpen ERA
- They lead the league in overall team ERA
- They lead the league in opponents batting average
- They lead the league in HR's
- 6th in hits in the majors
- 7th in batting average
Put that all together, look at the big picture, and I think some questions are answered. _________________ I Offered My Honor

| Damn, how many come from behind wins do the Tigers have now. I know its early but Im completely sold on this team making it to the postseason. Its not a fluke when you win 13 out of your last 14 games. |

Yeah he was on like no tomorrow. I dont think he even allowed a hit in the 3 innings he pitched. Our offense poured it on with 5 runs in the top and Mariano closed it out for the win in the bottom. _________________

The Tigers are in their first rut in a while. I hope they can come back and take the last two. Tough loss last night after a great comeback. _________________ I Offered My Honor

btw...Joel Zumaya is an absolute STUD.
He comes out throwing 95-96, so I think he will cool off after a couple pitches. Boy, was I wrong. He starts throwing 100 mph on 3 or 4 pitches in a row. Then, I think he struck Bernie out with a 86 mph breaking ball.
I think my jaw actually hit the floor. _________________

I was going to wait until the end of the series, to give a proper view on the Tigers.
But seen as we didnt the the Tigers at their best, its kinda hard to evaulate them.
All I noticed, is that all their pitchers throw flames and Pudge is still the best catcher in the league.
Good luck, but only until the end of August! _________________

Im back.
Ill be honest, after the poor showing in back to back to back losing series against great teams (NYY, BOS, CHW) I just wasnt in the mood to post. The Tigers lost Mike Maroth (for almost the whole season most likely) and then they proceded to drop 7 of 10....
5/29 - - L 0-4
5/30 - - L 6-11
5/31 - - L 1-6
6/1 - - W - 7-6
------------------------------------------------------------
6/2 - - L - 2-3
6/3 - - W - 6-2
6/4 - - L - 3-8
------------------------------------------------------------
6/6 - - L - 3-4
6/7 - - L - 3-4
6/8 - - W - 6-2
Actually...while they dropped some games against good teams, I was impressed by some of their games. They lost some close ones (extra innings), had some fierce comebacks, and unfortunately blew a few late game saves.
I knew that stretch would be rough, just not that rough. Like I always said, a mini-slump or 2 is going to come, it always does in baseball, what would be interesting is to see how a team like this, a team no one gives any chance at all, would respond after that. I am very proud of how they responded....winning 8 of their last 9 and just capping off a brutal sweep of the Cubs where they just dominated them.
6/9 - - L - 5-10
6/10 - - W - 5-3
6/11 - - W - 10-5
------------------------------------------------------------
6/12 - - W - 4-3
6/13 - - W - 7-1
6/14 - - L - 5-6
6/15 - - W - 3-2
------------------------------------------------------------
6/16 - - W - 5-3
6/17 - - W - 9-3
6/18 - - W - 12-3
Now sitting at a major league best (46 - 24) and looking to continue their hot streak in Milwuakee. _________________ I Offered My Honor

Or maybe, just maybe, he is.
We all knew Thames (pronounced Tims for those who didnt know) had power, but up until the end of lasty season he just couldnt ut it all together. This year is different. This year he is learning how to play baseball, all the nuances, all the little things. Hes turning on pitches, hitting opposite field, laying off in favorable counts, reading pitches better, and hes become a pretty solid fielder.
Thames and Granderson are two young studs, and hopefully will be Tigers for a long time to come. _________________ I Offered My Honor

hmmm, 6.5 behind is depressing.
Only 4 back in the loss column sounds better.
On a serious note..If they dont have a player starting at the all-star game. Some fans will need to rethink their baseball views. _________________
