Quote:
NEW YORK (AP) -- Charles Barkley is calling out Kobe Bryant again for dogging it.

Barkley criticized Bryant on Monday for the way he asked the Lakers to trade him, then for not appearing to give his full effort since owner Jerry Buss said he would consider a deal.

So when Barkley goes on the air Tuesday night for TNT's season-opening doubleheader, he will probably have some strong words about Bryant for the second time in three years. He said Phil Jackson's questioning of Bryant's effort over the weekend was the "final straw."

"What Phil Jackson said yesterday, that was like they're at the point of no return now. There's a point where you know you can make a marriage work, but what Phil Jackson said yesterday, that was the end of it," Barkley said at a luncheon with fellow studio analyst Kenny Smith.

"That's the one thing I respect most about Kevin Garnett. Even though he played on terrible teams, there is not a player in the last 10 years who played harder than Kevin Garnett. And that's the one thing that disappoints me. Phil said that Kobe's just going through the motions. ... And if your coach tells you you're just going through the motions, that's pretty much the end of the straw."

oh boyyy.. more drama..

kobe's costing this team alot right now..
he shouldnt let the trouble hes having off the court affect his game on the court. when he comes to a game/practice, he should just play. off the court is where you settle things privately.. & if he really wants to leave, he can..
no one's really stopping him. [the fans might not like it, but hey, it's HIS choice right?]

I wonder how many angry texts Kobe sent to Chuck after that.

Or maybe he left a nasty comment on Chuck's myspace.

I dont see how rings have to do with what he knows about ball or this report... I rarely agree with him but I agree with him in this situation.

Phil did "defend" him after Game 7 saying he was trying to go back the "facilitator" game plan seeing him being the "scorer" isn't going to get them anywhere against Phoenix after the 1st half. Perhaps some people wanted to see Kobe chuck shots up in the 4th and cry on the bench.

Kobe taking it easy in the preseason is what MANY/MOST veterans do at that time. Problem is we haven't seen Kobe taking it easy like that and feel something is missing. Hopefully this is not even a question starting tomorrow and he just plays.

Haha. I love Chuckster. And in a way, he's right. But it's the preseason, so Kobe gets a pass in my book. He'll be ready to play once the W's mean something. Kobe is last of my worries. Just like back in Shaq and Kobe days, you don't need to be friends, you just have to get the job done. And Kobe will get the job done, I'm more worried about the other scrubs on our team showing up when the lights come on during the regular season.

Ground Chuck is no insider, but he might be right. But I don't think things are as bad as they seem.

Kobe will be ready to play tomorrow.

What I don't understand is why the Lakers didn't just trade Kobe this summer. Buss is mad at Kobe for calling him an idiot and Kobe was wrong to do that. Kobe has mishandled some stuff though his message that Lakers needed to upgrade talent was 100 percent deadon. It is now obvious Lakers have no intention of trading Bynum and they never did except maybe in the Garnett deal. Buss was wrong as Barkley said to bring this crap up again when he did. With all the hard feelings, Jerry Buss has sabotaged the season now with the comments when he said them. Once Kobe reported there was no reason to bring this up again.... just let the season play out but no Buss had to open his stupid mouth along with silver spoon Jimmy, who is about to wear his arm out for patting himself on the back for drafting Bynum. This season isn't going anywhere and Kobe should have been traded during the summer unless Buss planned to let bygones be bygones and it is obvious he had no intention of that. So Lakers are screwed up now and thanks to Jerry and Jim and Kobe we the fans will suffer.

If Kobe forced his game in the 2nd half of that game, people would have said that Kobe didn't involve his teammates that's why they lost. TNT is just making sure their ratings are through the roof tomorrow evening. You have the boring ring ceremony of the Spurs in the first game. At least they wanna make sure they recoup the loss from that game by having all tuned in to the Lakers game.

Dood, Jerry Buss only spoke up when the season ticket holder's checks cashed. He's no fool.

Barkley and the Chicken Littles are engaging in what I'd called a self-fulfilling prophecy. Basically, they think that if they tried to be negative enough, they'll influence things, and then eventually be able to say that they predicted the negative outcome.

Fortunately, it appears that everything I've heard from the front office's people shows that they're keeping a level-head. Regardless of what the naysayers say, nothing can change "the fact" that Kobe's still under contract for 2 years, and we can offer him a larger extension than anyone else.
