^^What?

Robert Downey Jr is a fantastic actor and grouping him with a smug douche like Tobey Maguire is a travesty

Christian Bale a DAMN good as a Bruce Wayne, and seemed more genuine, comfortable, and enthusiastic in his character than that of Keaton. I just feels that way

about christian bale over keaton thats what i've been saying he just brought a different life and human feel to batman

in the same way daniel craig brought more of a manly feel to james bond a more rugged and angry attitude to bond. brosnan was good but was too feminine to play bond.

now regarding tobey and robert downey jr. watch the first spiderman and what you find is the perfect spiderman then watch iron man and you find the perfect iron man.

i group them together because while they played their roles perfectly neither brought anything new to the character they just successfully brought what was previously known about the characters to life.

but bale changed the way batman should be portrayed

I hate to turn this into a bond debate..but, I HATE Daniel craig. He isn't James Bond he is his cousin 008 Jack the rugged man Bond. For all that they should have just gotten Bruce Willis and had him do the role.

Give me Bronson or heck dye Connery's hair back to blonde and have him come back.

As for Tobey as Spiderman. The current comics where Peter is more of an adult I agree Tobey really isn't like that. I really can't think of anyone that reminds of him. I can see a little ultimate spiderman kind of in him sort of though. Really I think the guy who played Venom kind of reminds me more of peter parker in the current comics then tobey does currently.

However the writing and action in the spidey films made up for having Tobey as spiderman.

You and I have extremely different taste in characters and movies strike. I can't even fathom liking Brosnan more than Craig. I thought Craig was fantastic, tough, cool, smart, just awesome. I don't even remember the Brosnan Bond movies anymore. Plus I still cant' get over that you like Batman and Robin better than the X-Men series, I just can't. mhihi man12

I don't like my bond being so rugged. He has to be more smooth and use more finesse. It just felt like I at times watching Die hard part 4.

I like batman/Robin more then X-3 not the whole x-men series.

Batman/Robin did well in this sense it isn't ment to be take seriously. It's more of a comedy then an action film. X-3 was just a bunch of action sequences put together with no story or thought involved.

Ah, I see, I see, makes sense. I get the finesse Bond thing, I guess I just like the opposite, I loved everything about that movie, the action, the poker, the girl, the cars, just so stylish.

I'm trying to stay away from the new clips that have been released over the past few days. But that one was awesome. Is it actually possible for this performance to be even better than the hype?

Besides the voice (use to mark hamill on JL cartoon) he does a solid job.

The first and third ones are great.

1st one: "Take off your little mask and show us all who you really are" + the dismantling gun clip.

3rd one: interrogation room scene. Cannot wait for that entire scene. I think it's going to be one of the highlights of the entire movie.

2 more weeks man5

That's the silly part. Something cheezy like that might work in the Iron Man movie universe though.

and

An insane dude who walks around with a puppet on his hand is miles and miles different from the major villians in the Batman universe like the Joker and 2face. Not even going to go into that.

wtf? why did you bring that up for? You know nothing about the comic book world (as evident in your pathetic posts in the Iron Man vs Batman thread) Do you just WANT to get owned continuously?

I was being honest, Scareface isn't impossible and can be very creepy in a film. There is a strong crew working on these batman films and it can easily be done.
If you have a psycho clown, a psycho two-faced guy, a psycho doctor who loves fear and wears a mask (not to mention the other psychos in the bat universe)----a psycho guy with a dummy fits just as well as the others

God it's so annoying when somebody goes to extremes and acts like the next person doesn't know ish about something. Funny how the thread i'm primarily comparing the movies alone, yet your questioning my comic book knowledge LMAO

If it wasn't for SOAD , the iron man debate would be pretty weak in that thread ( thanks SOAD man2 )

Also just because you wrote psycho before a villian doesn't mean their the same. The Joker is NOT just a psycho clown, quit acting so simpleminded.

Excuse me, but I do believe you are the one who said Scarface is miles different from the Joker, which isn't true. You are the one who took a shot at Iron Man when I was genuinely talking Batman villains.
How was I going extremes? Did you even read what I posted? I even started talking about how Scarfce can be a truly griping character with Nolan at the helm.

And you don't know anything, its not like i'm lying here. I suppose the Joker is a perfectly SANE individual, correct? He's a psycho and i'm not being simpleminded. You are the one who knows nothing about the batman universe

He IS miles and miles different though. The Joker is some psychopath with no purpose in life who wears war point ( Nolan's version). He's not a clown, it's all a theatrical gimmick. Joker wants to see the WORLD burn, he doesnt want anything. Scarface is just some evil nut with a dummy on his hand, who wants to rob some banks and kill some people who get in his way. MIles and miles different..

Wow don't get sensitive on me, you've been taking subtle jabs any oppurtunity you get, i make one diss and your getting offended. Do you own the Iron Man franchise to take it so personally or something? Either fire back or take is as a joke.

Furthermore, you DO go extremes because you act like I have 0 comic book knowledge whatsoever which pisses me off because I've read my share of comic books growing up. Obviously my memory is a bit sketchy in certain areas and I'm not on SOAD's level for comic book knowledge, but to hear your bs about how I know nothing at all is annoying as hell. You've been taking jabs at strikemode for the exact same thing.

Also, there you go being extremely ignorant and the least bit perceptive as to what i'm saying. Do you honestly in your heart believe I was implying that Joker is a perfectly sane individual man10 Wow it's really tough to have an intelligent argument with you because I KNOW your going to come up with bs comebacks and opt to take personal jabs rather then use comic book/movie knowledge i.e. "you know nothing about batman" PUHLEAZEEEE

I was joking around with making INSIDE jabs at strikemode, and it had nothing to do with you. I even put emoticons to convey that fact

Once again I should mention, I was talking about Batman and moved on from the Iron Man discussion when you made that hollow and clueless remark.

Also, goddamn I just pointed out how interesting Scarface can be on screen with Nolan's credibility and directional expertise. It was a compliment. Do you doubt Nolan now? Sure sounds like it, or did you breeze by completely on how i kept mentioning that?

That awfully simple rundown of scarface can be exactly be said for the Joker. Its that easy, i'll show you:
"Joker is just some evil nut with a Face paint on him, who wants to rob some banks and kill some people who get in his way"

I make BS comebacks? man10 and you make perfectly sound "arguments" too man1

What up with the Batman Animated Series eyes at :22? mhihi Cool laugh though, can't wait to see that in context, seems like kind of a mocking yet gleeful laugh. Of all those above I like TV Spot #13 because of course, it features the most Joker.

^ It either looks like a Scarecrow induced sight or some sort of new night vision feature he has on the suit.

What I liked about the laugh is I'm expecting it to be one of those scenes where he's the only one who thinks it's funny and everyone else is staring at him, thinking he's out of his mind. He intentionally carries it on longer than any laugh should be, so he's doing it for a reason.

Just went to hottopic.com and did a search for 'dark knight' if that link doesn't work. They have shirts, key chains and other stuff.

Variety reviews the pic

Quote:
Having memorably explored the Caped Crusader's origins in "Batman Begins," director Christopher Nolan puts all of Gotham City under a microscope in "The Dark Knight," the enthralling second installment of his bold, bracing and altogether heroic reinvention of the iconic franchise. An ambitious, full-bodied crime epic of gratifying scope and moral complexity, this is seriously brainy pop entertainment that satisfies every expectation raised by its hit predecessor and then some. That should also hold true at the box office, with Heath Ledger's justly anticipated turn as the Joker adding to the must-see excitement surrounding the Warner Bros. release.
With the Bruce Wayne/Batman backstory firmly established, "The Dark Knight" fans out to take a broader perspective on Gotham City -- portrayed as a seething cauldron of interlocking power structures and criminal factions in the densely layered but remarkably fleet screenplay by helmer Nolan and brother Jonathan (stepping in for "Batman Begins'" David S. Goyer, who gets a story credit).

Using five strongly developed characters to anchor a drama with life-or-death implications for the entire metropolis, the Nolans have taken Bob Kane's comicbook template and crafted an anguished, eloquent meditation on ideas of justice and power, corruption and anarchy, and, of course, the need for heroes like Batman -- a question never in doubt for the viewer, but one posed rather often by the citizens of Gotham.

Indeed, with trusty Lt. Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman, superbly restrained) and golden-boy District Attorney Harvey Dent (a [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.] Aaron Eckhart) successfully spearheading the city's crackdown on the mob, even Wayne himself (Christian Bale) figures his nights moonlighting as a leather-clad vigilante are numbered. The young billionaire hopes to hang up the Batsuit for good and renew his relationship with assistant D.A. Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, an immediate improvement over Katie Holmes), who has taken up with Dent in the meantime.

But Batman's stature as a radical symbol of good has invited a more sinister criminal presence to Gotham City -- and, as seen in the crackerjack bank-robbery sequence that opens the pic, one who operates in terrifyingly unpredictable ways. Utterly indifferent to simple criminal motivations like greed, Ledger's maniacally murderous Joker is as pure an embodiment of irrational evil as any in modern movies. He's a pitiless psychopath who revels in chaos and fears neither pain nor death, a demonic prankster for whom all the world's a punchline.

After Ledger's death in January, his penultimate performance (with Terry Gilliam's "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" still to come) will be viewed with both tremendous excitement and unavoidable sadness. It's a tribute to Ledger's indelible work that he makes the viewer entirely forget the actor behind the cracked white makeup and blood-red rictus grin, so complete and frightening is his immersion in the role. With all due respect to the enjoyable camp buffoonery of past Jokers like Cesar Romero and Jack Nicholson, Ledger makes them look like -- well, clowns.

Pic shrewdly positions the Joker as the superhero-movie equivalent of a modern terrorist (one of several post-9/11 signifiers), who threatens to target Gotham civilians until Batman reveals his identity. Batman, Gordon and Dent uneasily join forces, but the Joker seems to have the upper hand at every step, even from a jail cell; the city, turning against the hero it once looked to for hope, seems more fractious, vulnerable and dangerous than ever.

Though more linear than “Memento” and “The Prestige” (two fiendishly intricate thrillers also co-scripted by the Nolans), “The Dark Knight” pivots with similar ingenuity on a breathless series of twists and turns, culminating in a dramatic shift for Eckhart's Dent. While this subplot reps the film’s weakest link, packing too much psychological motivation into too little screen time to be entirely credible, Eckhart vividly inhabits the character’s sad trajectory, underscoring the film’s point that even symbols of good can be all too easily tarnished.

From Wayne's playful debates with faithful butler Alfred (Michael Caine) about the public perception of Batman to the Joker's borderline-poetic musings on his own bottomless sadism, the characters almost seem to be carrying on a debate about the complicated realities of good vs. evil, and the heavy burden shouldered by those fighting for good. One of the few action filmmakers who's capable of satisfying audiences beyond the fanboy set, Nolan honors his serious themes to the end; he bravely closes the story with both Gotham City and the narrative in tatters, making this the rare sequel that genuinely deserves another.

Viewers who found "Batman Begins" too existentially weighty for its own good will be refreshed to know that "The Dark Knight" hits the ground running and rarely lets up over its swift 2½-hour running time. Nolan directs the action more confidently than he did the first time out, orchestrating all manner of vertiginous mid-air escapes and virtuosic highway setpieces (and unleashing Batman's latest ooh-ah contraption, the monster-truck-tire-equipped Bat-Pod). In a fresh innovation, six sequences were shot using Imax cameras, and will presumably look smashing in the giant-screen format (pic was reviewed from a 35mm print).

Though not as obsessively detailed as "Batman Begins," "The Dark Knight" shares with that film a robust physicality and a commitment to taking violence seriously; a brief shot of bruises and scrapes on Bale's torso conveys as much impact as any of the film's brutal confrontations. Bale himself is less central figure than ensemble player, but the commandingly charismatic thesp continues to put his definitive stamp on the role, and also has devilish fun playing up Wayne's playboy persona.

Tech work is at the first entry's high standard, with many artists reprising their contributions here -- from Nathan Crowley's imposing production design, shown to flattering effect in Wally Pfister's gleaming widescreen compositions, to the propulsively moody score by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard. Perhaps most impressive is Lee Smith's editing, confidently handling multiple lines of action and cutting for maximum impact.

Exteriors were lensed in Chicago aside from an early scenic detour to Hong Kong, which marks the first time a Batman film has ventured outside Gotham City.

so excited. hurry!
