Wow, I'm watching the replay and just realized something.

In the 4th quarter, Kobe scored 20 points in a span of under 6 minutes (that's half a quarter, y'all).

At 6:01 to go he had 61 points ... finished with 81 at around 43 seconds remaining. man4

They are showing kobes entire game points by qtr throughout the show... they just showed a kobe bryant music video type highlight with someone rapping about kobe!

I'm not gonna front...I'm gonna woMAN up for my fellow Lakers fans...I was SO CLOSE to turning the game off at the third quarter. LIke, mintutes away from turning it off. Looking back, I can't believe I was so close to losing my Lakers Fan Card.

I was paying attention to something else, listening to Stu & Bill in the background, hearing Stu say tha they were down more than when the went into the half, and I just got fed up (I had watched the first half).

I said to my man "You can go ahead and change the channel if you'd like, cause I don't want to watch the Lakers play crummy while playing an already crummy team".

To which he replied, like he's talking to a 10 year old..."There's still plenty of time, Kobe will go off soon...geez what kind of a fan are you, just bailing out on them when they aren't playing well?"

(He asks this knowing full well I'm a die hard fan who watches almost every game, even when they're getting routed, and I routinely talk smack on fair weathered Lakers fans, so it was in jest)

And it was just a few mintues after that when Kobe really started taking off. Thank goodness my man snapped me out of it just in time.

So, we both are watching history, just amazed that he's reaching 70, and throughout the 4th he keeps saying "And you wanted to turn the game off..."

I could only hear one thing in my head...Cooper from the movie EuroTrip...

FOR SHAME!!!

So yeah, much like the Kobe Haters having to agree with Kobe's brilliant performance last night, I must recognize my near fatal error in judgement last night...never underestimate what Kobe Bryant is capable of achieving single handedly in 1 game...historical greatness.

Other things I really liked about last night...

1) Kobe giving Phil (and just about every teammate) a hug as he takes the bench. Kobe and Phil hug on the court!! At the 62 point game, it was a big high five handshake, but this one with the hug was even more special.

2) Then later, Kobe says in his Press Conf. that he plays to please Phil. I'm not buying into that 100%, but for 50% it got a big "AWWW" outta me. I've really enjoyed seeing their relationship develop into an entirely different level than before.

3)The majority of the crowd (including the lower bowl with all the upper crusts people) staying long after the game's ended to hear Kobe's interview and keep up the celebration. I haven't seen this since the Lakers won a championship! If you've been to a game at Staples, you appreciate the need for leaving a few minutes early to beat the traffic. I know Lakers fans get ragged on quite a bit and the dedication is questioned, and to see how much Staples Center was rockin last night, and to see how many fans stuck around long after the game was done, shows you how much Kobe's performance has impacted our Lakers fans.

4) Kobe wrapping up the press conference as soon as Natalia said she wanted to go home for her bath. It was just too adorable, I had to throw that little moment in as well.

I hope everyone realized what they witnessed, saw highlights of, heard about, or read about last night through today and are still seeing/hearing/reading about the buzz. The history text books are being updated as we speak, because one man did the unthinkable. By swishing a ball through a net more times than anyone imagined, Kobe Bryant has done something that no other living soul can boast about...and that is scoring 80+ points in a NBA game.

The only other person that has achieved such a feat was the late, great Wilt "The Stilt." People thought that no one would ever come close to that record, well Kobe was only 19 away. The majority of the population did not think any player in today's game could break MJ's career high of 69, boy were they wrong. Kobe broke it and did so in fashioin, by shooting a high percentage from the field and making the game look easy...too easy.

If you have not gotten the chance to see this fine piece of history, like myself, then do yourself a favor, one that you will not regret. Buy the game. Order it off the internet. This is something that you will cherish for the rest of your life. This is something that you will take pride in sharing with your kids and watching with them. Watching the look on their face as they watch one of the greatest of all time tear apart the Raptors by himself.

81 points. All by one player in a competitive game. 81 points. Kobe has done 1000 things that have left my mouth agape, but never anything like this. 81 points. We were down 20 at one point, and Kobe singlehandedly won the game for us, no question. 81 points.

You could take every player to every lace 'em up in the history of the NBA. Jerry West, Magic, Michael, Elgin, Dr. J, Larry Bird, Kareem, Chucky Atkins....take the whole lot of 'em, living and dead. Take them all to a basketball court and have them all take a seat on the hardwood.

Just watching the game and experiencing that was amazing. As Kobe scored more and more in the 2nd half you started to wonder just how high he could go. The announcer was calling out names after each bucket...

Kobe with a 3!!...............eat my dust Jordan

Kobe with another jumoer..............peace out D-Rob

And another..........see you later Elgin Baylor

Its as if Kobe was just running through an NBA house of legends and knocking over pillar after pillar.

What a game, what a player!

Too sit and watch Kobe's press conference and hear him talk about him turning it on and doing that lets me know that Kobe can do whatever the hell he wants. I don't mean trade Shaq or Lamar. I mean he can entirely take a whole team out by himself. Honestly. You put five guys on the court with one of them being Kobe Bryant, give him the green light and you wil get a show. I believe if the NBA shortened the season to about 40-50 games and I have heard suggested by many coaches that aren't professional, I think Kobe could do this EVERY SINGLE night. Now, I have Kobe as the second best player in NBA history. If he gets another championship, he might surpass the GOAT and everyone knows who I'm talking about. It depends on all of the circumstances though. But, I think that before Kobe Bryant retires he will be considered the greatest player in NBA history without a doubt. Jordan demands respect from everyone. Not many people hate Jordan, only die-hard fans of the teams he destroyed. I believe Kobe Bryant will be just the same once he retires. Not now of course because he scores fourty points a game and not everyone can like the same team, but Kobe Bean Bryant will be the greatest player to have ever played the game of basketball.

oh man, that was amazing. but what impressed me was the efficiency, his relentlessness and his humbleness afterwards.
this shows that he's getting closer and closer to mj. whether kobe likes it or not.

and i wasted three minutes during the 3rd quarter to do dishes. DISHES! DISHES ARE NOT AS IMPORTANT AS WITNESSING SOMEONE GO OFF COMPLETELY! man2

that's why i wana get paper plates and burn all my dishes.

Kobe's a bum!

He had to miss his free throws....didn't he!

So he decides to try and break another NBA record that wouldn't take as much time as the FT record....

And the bum falls short by 20 points! He ONLY scores 81. I'm disappointed in Kobe. freak2

BTW, nice avy Chief and even if I think Kobe's a bum, I still think that on his "good nights" he is a basketball god!
