Team USA Plans
You know what, I’m still debating it. Since my leg is healthier than I thought it would be at this time, I might just go out there. I might call Jerry Colangelo and see if I can just go out there and train with them. Or if not that, I’ll just stay and work on my health. |

I'd say let him go out there and train with them. I think it would help tremendously to have an NBA presence there, more than capable to play with that group and be able to talk to the players and let them know whats up. _________________

I say no chance in hell they should let him in a USA Jersey. I was fine with him being upset about being left off the team. Hell, I liked his passion and thought he should have been out there but not after his antics afterwards. He doesn't want to play for the USA because its represents his country he wants to do it because he wants people to think he is the best. He all but proved it by his personal assault on all the US coaches. Sorry Gil but if it was up to me (and it isn't) you would be staying home. _________________ You find me offensive?

are you serious?? He shoots horrible... he just chucks a lot of shots to get points. He's shooting 41.8%...35% 3pts that's not efficient.

I don't think the team needs him. He usualy sucks in all-star games and when he's not hot he doesn't stop shooting. Gilbert Arenas = Michael Redd, don't need 'em both, don't really need another chucker with no d. _________________ Weezy's Weemens

I'll gladly be Hollinger if I proved you wrong. Obviously he doesn't shoot efficiently, so no he wouldn't have helped. I provided facts, yet you insult me.
Everyone is agreeing with me... Gil doesn't shoot efficiently, when he's hot, it's all good, but when he isn't he just chucks up shots. USA doesn't need him. |

I haven't insulted you at all. It was more like a poke on facebook.
Gilbert's not an efficient player? Then explain to me Washington's playoff appearances the last couple of years. Also, explain to me how he efficiently scored 60 points against our team. In addition, explain how he efficiently averages close to 30 ppg throughout the season. Once again, Gil's a shooting guard - one of the most clutch players in the league. He's supposed to shoot - and he's quite good at it. |

I said he isn't an efficient scorer not player. He scored 60 points... so what? That's one game... he has great games, bad games... he's not consistent. His 41% tells me that. If you average 30 ppg on 46-50% shooting it means he's doing it the right way. If you average near 30 ppg shooting 41% it means he's chucking up shots. Anyone can score 30 ppg... all you have to do is keep chucking shots... but that's not being efficient and it's hindering your teams performance. |

Some of the things these clueless fans say apply to Kobe also.
Gilbert would be the best player for USA after Melo and Kobe.

Gotta have role players, too many stars and there aren't enough basketballs. Gil is a chucker and Miller is a shooter. Everything Gil does is about Gil, don't need him on the team. _________________ Weezy's Weemens

Exactly Weezy.
It isn't that Gil isn't good enough to be on the team it is that the Team doesn't need Gil or his "all about me" attitude _________________ You find me offensive?

Of course the team needs role players, but people here are basically saying Gilbert shouldn't even be on the team.
He can backup Kobe ANY time he wants to. _________________

Looks like Gilbert had a chance to play with the USA team...the USA under 21 team that is.
He talks about the Men's team as well. He still seems a little bitter from being cut last year.

Looking Like Chucky Atkins
I ran up and down for the first time with the USA Under-21 Team. I don’t know what to call that team actually, they don’t look like they’re under 21. I’ll just call them the USA College Team.
They were down in D.C. at the Verizon Center so I played with them. I hit a couple buckets, you know, but that’s all I can say. I couldn’t jump and stuff them, I was looking like I was Chucky Atkins out there around the rim. The stroke was there, but I was looking like Chucky on the vert.
They were just playing hard, that’s what I expected. That’s why I wanted to play. I went out there to sweat it out for the first time and try to get my leg underneath me and see how much I’m favoring it. I would have gone out to Vegas, but those boys have been working out the whole summer. I didn’t want to get cut again before I even got started.
I heard that Mike Bibby is hosting a 1997 championship reunion at Arizona and I’m supposedly going to be there. Why am I going to be there? I didn’t win a championship. We lost to DUKE! The man I lost to in the championship is the man who cut me from Team USA. He cut me like Arizona beat Duke and he wanted payback. I think that’s the hardest part. I was thinking because they won that he was going to help me on the team, you know, maybe he’d feel sorry for me.
But, I’m over it. You know, Team USA should do well this year. I was looking at the roster and they’re finally putting a roster together that looks like it can compete -- they got shooters, they got all around players. I don’t know about some of the players, I’m not sure if they’re really USA Basketball material, but at the end of the day if they pick it, they pick it. It needs to be a versatile roster in the end. |

Yes he can, at times.
He's pretty inconsistent and, to put it simply, has a chucker mentality.
Sure, I think he should try out, but it wouldn't really improve us that much if he did or didn't. _________________
