Seeing with all the recent events that have been taking place such as that catastrophic cyclone killing hundreds of thousands of people, the earthquake in China, & probably tons of other things & signs happening around the world..
Do any of you truly believe in the prediction or theory that things are gonna' get real ugly in that year? If I'm not mistaken, I think it's also known as the year the Mayas predicted or something like that. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm obviously not too knowledgeable on this subject matter, so please if you know something, fill me in on what this is all about and what's predicted to happen. I'm highly curious. Also, tell me what YOU personally believe will happen. Oh yeah, & not just perhaps climate changes & catastrophic devastations around the world, but where will our economy probably be then, as well as the situation worldly with oil & gas prices here. _________________ .

There have been natural disasters since the earth was formed. In fact, many of the disasters we experience would be nothing compared to some of our past ones. This planet has already had 5 or 6 mass extinctions.
I don't believe that 2012 has any special significance.
As far as climate change goes, it's happening. It's going to raise temperatures in most areas of the planet. It is going to raise sea levels. This will cause obvious like flooding coastal areas but may also have unforeseen consequences like disrupting global ocean circulation patterns.
The world will change. To what degree, no one really knows. _________________

In terms of the climate. I don't think 2012 would have any signficance in that regard. There might be bad weather but, nothing that will destroy all of mankind.
As for the gas thing.
If I had a billion dollars right now I would have me a swat team of scientists making an electric car righ now.
The US gov't tried to give it to car companies but, it failed not becuase people didn't want them it made the current car companies cars somewhat obselete and they would have lose profit on them.
IMO it's only a matter of time before someone figures out that the electric car is a king's fortune just waiting for anyone with the guts to get it. _________________ Strikemode14 is the greatest.

In 2012, Bynum will be in his prime.

Not to get too much off topic, but quickly, I value your opinion and I'd like to know what's your prediction on his numbers/stat line by that year? _________________ .

Strike, an electric car is great and all but what are you going to use to generate that electricity?
Currently in the US, coal is by far the largest source for electrical production. Far behind is natural gas, followed by nuclear and large hydroelectric. All of those sources damage the environment in one way or another. Alternative sources like wind, geothermal and solar are but a tiny fraction of our electrical production. _________________

The whole Mayan calender thing is ridiculous. Because they stopped their calender at that year means the world is going to end? 2012 years is a LONG time. Ever hear of laziness?
Extreme global warming by that time? I need more concrete evidence of global warming even existing before I even make a claim that significant.
As far as our economy, I think that IF Obama wins, he'll do whatever he can to get us out of this rut. Being the first black man in office, it would be CRUCIAL for the African American race in general for him to do something insanely beneficial for this country. It's easier said than done, but I believe he understands what his place in history would be and he'd do whatever in his power to help us forget about the Bush administration. _________________

great question...haven't thought that far to be honest.
At that point I was just looking at it from a business to make money more then help the enviornment. I would hope put solar panels would help even though conversion of sun energy is still has long ways to go. _________________ Strikemode14 is the greatest.

K B 8, with all due respect, my question towards you was directed at Bynum, not the current thread title topic at hand subject matter. That's why I said quickly, not to get too much off topic, but I value your opinion, numbers / stat line... nothing to do with the year 2012. If you could try answering that question, again that'd be great, but if not, no problem, I'd understand. _________________ .

I read it quickly and thought you wanted me to get on topic.

In 2012 we'll mark another year on our calender in the near future to settle as doomsday.

December 21, 2012 is a special day, but is it the end of the world? No. The Mayans don't say that the world is going to end, but instead it's going to be a new "cycle". From what I've learned, the Earth (and this whole Solar System) is on the top half of the Galaxy. On December 21, 2012 it will be exactly in the middle (looking from the side view of the Galaxy), then it will move to the lower half. Some things might happen with the Earth such as the electric grid and such, but the end of the world? Probably not.
As for the climate, yes the Earth is warming up but the Earth has warmed up multiple times over the course of its history. Do vehicles, factories, etc. have a role in the Earth warming up? Maybe. And we can change it with all of these Hybrids, Bio-Diesel, Electric, and Solar vehicles, but no matter what the Earth is going to warm up. But still, we should help the environment.
Some people are starting to worry because all of these disastrous events are happening, but it always happens in Earth. Just because it's our lifetime it doesn't mean that nothing bad is going to happen. And when something catastrophic happens, we don't know what to do because it's the first time its happened in our lifetime (but I'm sure worse has happened in Earth's past). |
