I know I am going to get a lot of "half-man, half season" responses in here and so on, but I wanted to see what people's opinions are on getting a Vince Carter based package for Lamar Odom. The Lakers could acquire him and move Kobe to the 3. I think that option is one that has not been discussed a lot, instead of looking for a SF, move Kobe there and look for a SG. I think Carter could be an unthought of option for Odom. But this is why I think it would work:
1. The Nets want capspace, lots of capspace. I hear they are considering trading Carter to the Cavs for Wally Szczerbiak. The Nets should be very interested in Lamar Odom's expiring contract.
2. Nets need quality big men. They have an exceptional amount of marginal big men, or young big men that haven't played a lot in the NBA. Odom would be a great player in the East, and in the running system the Nets are trying to get going with Harris and Yi.
I think the Lakers should explore trading Lamar Odom, 2009 2nd (Charlotte) for Vince Carter and one of the Nets big men (Josh Boone, Sean Williams, Nenad Krstic, etc). Personally I think Josh Boone would be a prime option. He is a good positional defender, and is learning to become a great rebounder.
Now for why the Lakers would benefit from having Vince. He is an underrated passer. One thing I have learned from watching the Nets is that his passing/vision is far above average. He is a great all around player, and can hit the 3 at a pretty good rate. I think the team could motivate him to play some good defense, and would be another good scoring option for the Lakers. He just adds another very consistent player, who would fill a need by hitting the three, and with motivation can play good defense.
Fisher/Farmar
Vince/Sasha
Kobe/Ariza/Luke
Pau/Turiaf/Vlad
Bynum/Boone
The defensive potential of that bench is outstanding, every 2nd string guy is a good defender. Then perhaps the Lakers could explore a trade to the Knicks involving Vladamir for Malik Rose's expiring contract. In theory the Knicks should be interested in VladRad's potential in D'Antoni's system. _________________ GoalLineBlitz (Manute Bol- LB) http://goallineblitz.com/game/signup.pl?ref=298765

| we can do a lot better than Vince. Even if we did get him to play well (which would be a stretch), how much longer does his career have? not much... |

The guy played in 76 games last season and averaged 21ppg, 6rpg, 5apg, 1+spg. That's better than Lamar Odom's numbers and I think he would be a good fit in the system. He is 31 years old, and once his contract expires the Lakers would let him walk. If it brings us a championship who cares how old he is, he still has gas left in the tank. _________________ GoalLineBlitz (Manute Bol- LB) http://goallineblitz.com/game/signup.pl?ref=298765

Not bad at all, I was thinking Carter as well as soon as the Nets traded Kidd and Jefferson, I figured he'd be their next target. I actually wouldnt mind having him on the team, but the real question is, how well would he fit with this team, and Kobe Bryant as well. Will he be willing to take the back seat just to win a championship? On paper it looks good, but my main concern is team chemistry. Whats your thoughts..? _________________

If we trade for Vince Carter, we better not re-sign Vujajic. His ability to play the SG spot by itself should be enough for the Lakers to skip Vujajic and in essence reduce Carter's 16m a year salary to one that's 12m a year.
Even with that added benefit I can't see either team making a trade considering that Thorn turned down a pure expiring for Carter with nothing being sent back. He's a complete moron to have done so however unless his intention was to keep good players from going to Cleveland in order to bring LeBron over. |

you answered your own question in that last sentence....Thorn isn't about to make the Cavs better when he's trying to get Lebron....
With that being said, Lamar Odom is 10 times the player Wally is....and he's expiring just like Wallly....and I believe you can swap Lamar for VC straight up (salaries match up i believe)...
It's tough to say right now, i dont think id make the trade NOW...id wait til the trading deadline....VC is an incredible talent...and he would make us better....but we can't pull the trigger this fast on a player like Lamar....and if im the lakers id try to throw vlad rad or luke in the deal and have them send one of their young guys (boone, swill or mwill) _________________ Michael:"Peter where the hell were u yesterday what were u doin?!"

As soon as we go down 2-0 in a series, Vinsanity will call it quits. _________________ http://cfb365.blogspot.com |

| Personally I have the feeling that we can get Gilbert Arenas so I'd rather not give up my best trade assets in the process. |

you know whats really sad is if he was traded here which is about negative
1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000%
i being homer laker fan would probably get excited
but since its not happening i will be realistic andd the realistic approach is
he is lazy, half-hearted, shot kneed and the opposite of a winner
to me that doesn't make us better not worse but not better |

i don't think we can if we can why not
though his knee scares the living hell out of me
it might ruin his career
but if hes healthy hell yes
i think he would make us a 1960's celtics status dynasty |

| Lamar for Vince is a bad idea. Vince isn't as aggressive as he used to be. he doesn't attack the rim like he used to. he settles way too much for the shot. He's getting OLD and he has a huge contract. the lakers should also consider having capspace for when Lebron, D-wade and Melo become free agents because Kobe is turning 30. Lamar will be more useful to the lakers then Vince. Lamar can play so many positions. he can score, rebound, handle the ball and is a great team player who doesn't complain about touches. |

Lamar's ability to play different positions is not the reason I don't do this deal.
Lamar can play SF/PF that's it...
Vince can play SG/SF.
Lamar's contract not his versatility are the key. |
