Losing Diop will hurt them. He was younger/quicker than Dampier, and their only reliable backup 5.
Don't see how this trade makes them all that better. Definitely still looking up at Lakers, Suns, Spurs. |

ESPN will also have live coverage of the press conference in a few minutes.
Also reported on ESPN, Kidd will wear number 2 (?) and will be in the lineup tomorrow for Dallas. _________________

This is better deal then they would have gotten before. They get to keep Stackhouse, if I'm not mistaken. _________________

| The Mavericks still lack an inside presence which means Bynum will dominate like no other. |

| I wouldn't be surprised if they make a run for PJ Brown or package Terry and Stackhouse for a decent big. |

They have open roster spots. I'm sure they'll pick up some big guy off the waiver. _________________

Kidd is a good acquisition and I love the guy, but there frontcourt is still soft. Kidd isn't going to defend Amare, Duncan, Bynum, or Gasol. Losing Diop will hurt big time because he was their best defensive prescence down there, in terms of shot-blocking ability. I doubt they make another move, so we'll have to see how this team does the rest of the year. _________________

This makes them better right now and right now only. They're gonna miss Diop a little, and in the future I think they miss Harris, but for right now I think Kidd makes them better. It's a gamble overall though, not as big as the Shaq gamble because Kidd is a tripple double guy, but still a gamble because if it doesn't work you traded away a future good player in Harris. Overall they didn't give up much talent though, so pretty good deal. _________________ Weezy's Weemens

It might work out for Dallas but they made it easier on us for any future matchups:
- No more Devin Harris
- Soft front court
- Go ahead and give J Kidd some open looks with his 36% FG shooting this year. _________________ A legendary day (81 points) - Jan. 22, 2006 vs. Raptors.

It's certainly a better deal than the previous one due to keeping Stackhouse, and getting Antoine Wright in the deal shouldn't be overlooked either. I love that pick-up. _________________

Regarding the 1st deal, he was coming back to Dallas anyway.
Oh well... at least that little pest from DAL is gone now. He's the only guy I fear whenever we play them. |
Josh Howard isn't scary? |

Stackhouse was gonna come back anyway (until he opened his big mouth). That separate deal for Wright was also mentioned when the first deal broke news.
I guess the only other positive we can look at is they get to keep Devean George! _________________ A legendary day (81 points) - Jan. 22, 2006 vs. Raptors.

Yeah but with JT, Josh, Stack, and EJ I don't think he'll get much playing time. There is Gump to consider too, but I don't think he'll ever see the court again. _________________

It sounds like they could make another deal, possibly for a defensive center. |

True. In spite of losing Harris, getting a skilled young player with potential in return is a bargain. You still face the possibilty of Jones & Stackhouse missing time due to injuries (both have been out for periods of time this year) and having someone younger with fresher legs who can knock down perimeter baskets and D up can help down the road. _________________

imo, they now have a scary starting lineup and the 2nd unit backcourt , but the front court is...
Dampier/ malik allen
Dirk/ juwan howard
Josh Howard/ devean george
Eddie Jones/ jerry stackhouse
Kidd/ jason terry.
on paper they are still very very good. |

i haven't seen him play before.... but he's only 6'8.
trading harris messes with their going small gameplan...
trading diop messes with their going big gameplan...
they gave up alot of versatility for kidd.
I personally feel what they needed was sam cassell... not kidd at such a high price. _________________
