If anyone can do it, it's Kobe. The guy's pain tolerance is off the charts.

It doesn't seem to be hampering him as much since he's been wearing a less cumbersome brace.

i had the same exact injury on the same exact finger back in November 2006

I never had surgery

It was really bad at first and I kept re-injuring it, but I just tape the two fingers together and I've been playing like that for over a year now

its no big deal anymore, Kobe won't need surgery

one thing about this though. he injurred it yesterday in the second quarter. his best shooting percentage during yesterday's game was during the third quarter.

Thx for answering.

Also, I think emplay might have info that hasn't really hit the wire yet.

He should've sat out the last 2 games...we could've beat them without Kobe

He could've gotten extra rest and he probably wouldn't have exacerbated the injury

I'll believe this when I hear it from gumby.

Until then, it's pure internet speculation as far as I'm concerned.

I'll chime in with my MD advice, again (which has happened a lot this year):

Kobe's injury will not heal by taking a game or two off. He has an avulsed fracture, meaning the tendon connected to the bone has been ripped off and taken a bone chip with it. He needs surgical correction. A few games off isn't enough. Obviously, he's going to try and play through it, because he's Kobe and not Shaquille O'Neal.

Where did you get the details?

I thought is was just dislocated. Dislocation is no where NEAR ripping the bone and tendon...

Is this new info?

And they just said the same exact thing on the PMS show (AM570).

They will monitor it from game to game. Money also said that the surgery could even be put off until after the summer Team USA games.

Is it okay to play with it though? I mean, is there any long term issue with playing through it?

The number 9 seed is 3 losses behind us. We can't suffer a stretch sans Bynum and Kobe.

Since so many of you glossed over the link, I'll just paste it here.

Kobe Bryant has sustained a torn ligament in his right pinkie and has decided not to undergo surgery that would sideline him for six weeks, the Lakers said today.

Bryant initially hurt his finger Feb. 5 when the Lakers played New Jersey. The injury was originally listed as a dislocated pinkie, although the team revealed today there was also a complete tear of the radial collateral ligament and an avulsion fracture, in which a small fragment of bone had been pulled off by a tendon.

Bryant, who saw hand specialist Steven Shin in Los Angeles today, will try to play through the injury instead of having surgery. If he opted for surgery, he would face a six-week recovery process.

"My current thinking is to give my finger some treatment and rest for a few days, and hope I can still continue to compete at a high level after that rest," Bryant said in a statement. "I would prefer to delay any surgical procedure until after our Lakers season, and this summer's Olympic Games. But, this is an injury that myself and the Lakers' medical staff will just have to continue to monitor on a day-to-day basis."

It is unclear if Bryant will play in Sunday's All-Star game. But Bryant will not participate in the three-point shooting contest -- the NBA said Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks will replace Bryant in the three-point competition.

Bryant was initially injured when his pinkie was bent back against the arm of Jason Kidd while Bryant was trying to steal a pass against New Jersey.

His pinkie was aggravated in Wednesday's game when Minnesota's guard Rashad McCants hit it while Bryant went for a rebound.

Bryant started off slowly after injuring his finger in New Jersey, making only seven of 29 shots (24.1%) against the Nets and Atlanta. He has since shot better, making 37 of 76 attempts (48.7%) in the Lakers' last four games, all victories.

Great. Just what we needed after things we're going so well.

Unlikely, but he'll need minor surgery sometime this summer and rest and rehab in between games. In all honesty, this likely happened back in jersey, and he shot 49% the past 4 games. So you wouldn't even notcie it.
