What's a good diet for a 17 year old?
Yesterday I woke up at 12.
12PM= Salad
3PM= Some pork thing with a scoop of rice
9:30PM= Soup
Pizza goldfish in the middle.
Is this good?
How come I can't eat after 8?
*Edit*
So penut butter sandwich is good?
What about pbnj? |

^ It depends how you're eating the PBnJ. If you do whole wheat bread and sugar free or no sugar added jelly, it's a great start.
As for your diet, it doesn't look like a whole lot of calories, but not knowing how much you weigh, how much you work out, and what your goals are, it's tough to say. _________________

Yes, it's the standard barbell. And where I put weights, I don't consider the weight of the barbell as weight. I forgot to add 20 minutes of sprints on the elliptical trainer on level 16. It's the first time I use the hardest level of the elliptical trainer. lol _________________

I can't use elliptical machines for some reason. Neither can my brother. It's either something genetic or because of our height and proportions...but my hips and back hurt really bad and my upper calf burns really bad when I use an elliptical machine (my bro, too). I can run a long time on a regular treadmill or out on the hills by my house without any of those problems for some reason.
When I use machines, I don't count the weight of the components, but I alway count the bar otherwise. _________________

I can't run on a treadmill. It makes weird sounds when I run on it unless I hold myself on those things that it has and I hate not using my arms when I run. I'd love to swim instead of doing elliptical trainer stuff(it puts less strain on my worn out knees), but it gets too time consuming to drive from the gym to the pool and it's pricey too. Me=not affording it, so me needs a rich boyfriend. :P jk _________________

This might sound like a stupid question because the two aren't necessarily related, but do you guys take any supplements/vitamins to keep your body from getting injuries while training? _________________ WTB witty sig |

Injuries aren't related to supplements usually. Injuries are given by bad form mostly. So yes, it is sort of a stupid question, but in order to have good gains, you need to have both your nutrition and training in check. So supplements would probably go in the nutrition part of the working out scheme. Well, I take multivitamins and calcium and magnesium pills. L-Arginine(it's an amino acid) would help my knees though.
I think of ordering a bunch of books off amazon about nutrition because you never can know enough about it. _________________

Vitamins are going to be relative to what you eat and genetics. Depending on what you need, you may be getting it, so vitamins would be senseless.
I don't believe in supplements in most cases. They're probably something a nutritionist should recommend. For every person who has gains with supplements, including creatine, there are people who are successful without supplements. _________________

trodgers, the thing with supplements is that they're just supplements. They're not a healthy diet replacement like most people view them. It baffles me when people think that if they take protein and a multivitamin they can just continue eating at McDonalds and they're done.
Aonex, think of it like a pyramid. At the base you have your workout routing, on top of that is the way you eat and what you eat, on top of that you have your sleeping pattern and at the top of the pyramid there's the supplements. There's no point in taking supplements until you don't fix the rest in my opinion and they'd just be a waste of money. Yes,they'd enhance your results, but they won't make that much of a difference. The person with the base of the pyramid in check will have better gains than those who just do the top. _________________

I agree with everything you've said in this post, even the part I cut out. The fact is, though, that lots of people don't need supplements, even people who live active lifestyles. _________________

Well, an active lifestyle doesn't mean that you workout at a high intensity. Each supplement has a meaning and if you don't know what it does and what it compensates, you should get some books on the human body, eating and stuff. _________________

Guess I should put the milkshake away then. Reason I asked is that I'll usually get in a good routine of exercising for a few weeks and then suddenly pull a muscle... or maybe I'll run for a few weeks and then one day have some pain on my hamstring. Didn't think I was doing anything particularly wrong cause I only do light lifting (and I'm fairly careful about following proper form), then do a lot of cardio type activities like tennis, surfing, swimming, running, etc. Maybe I'm just getting old. But my diet definitely could use some work. _________________ WTB witty sig |

Condescension isn't just a river in Egypt.
I can't remember who was interested in Crossfit here, but today's workout was ridiculous. Do 1 pullup in minute 1, 2 in minute 2, 3 in minute 3, etc., until you can't do the number for that minute. I failed in minute 16. It was ridiculous and very intimidating getting back up there in the last few minutes. _________________

If anyone has questions, feel free to ask...I know a lot about diets, nutrition and fitness. Sometimes I explain my fitness coach how certain things work best lol
One thing I can tell you which is 100% a fact
there is NO MAGIC in losing weight. There is no medicine that makes you lose weight...its just work but its goddamn easy if you want it but indeed you have to WANT it. Its always the same old combination...sports combined with reducing fat and carbs in your food....
But its no problem AT ALL to lose weight if you have the determination...Last year I fell in love and decided to lose a lot of weight...I lost 40 pounds within 2 months. I knew it wasn't healthy but I didn't have the time to wait...and since 2008 I have lost another 35 pounds but decided to do it slower because its unhealthy to lose too many weight in a short time...I'm in great condition right now...and no I didn't stop eating chocolates or anything...I did eat whatever I wanted to..just in the right combination at the right time and with a lot of sports...
my daily routine right now is about 2-3 hours sports a day. I don't have the time but I have given this priority number 1 and I have been able to manage it so far. _________________

as of right now I'm approximately 200 pounds...but I have a lot of muscles...I mean I work out at least 5 times a week and its always AT LEAST 3 hours...I'm pretty much always either in the university or in the gym.
I truly don't know my maximum ever weight...At some point I gave up to keep track on it...it must have been AT LEAST 280 pounds before...
I always used to have a great frame and be able to put weight on it without actually looking really fat but at 280 well that was pretty chubby, not to say FAT. I'm exactly 6 foot tall.
As of right now I'm in great shape and as I said there is no magic formula to get you slim or anything. Its just hard work in the gym or outdoor sports...
if you lose weight with sports, you don't run danger of the yoyo effect to get the weight back and even more than before...I have really stopped making sports for 3 months and I didn't re-gain a single pound.
I worked out 4-5 hours a day approximately for a couple of months...I started in the morning with a 2 hour basketball workout. Then I used to swim another 2 hours in the evening. Sometimes I would ball for 2 hours, immidiately swim for 2 hours and then get back on the court and play another 2 hours...make that 6 straight hours...
at the beginning I felt like crap...you know playing basketball with 280 pounds takes a toll on your knees and your muscles in general...but as time went by, it became easier and better every day...
right now I can run 2-3 hours at 6 mph without breaking a sweat. My resting pulse rate was like 100 when I started and right now its in the 60s... _________________

That's impressive.I can barely do 5 mph for 10 min before I start gagging for air...I get my cardio in from the stationary bike and elliptical. But I hope your doing some kind of weight lifitng and body weight exercises.... with that crazy amount of cardio your going to lose ALOT of muscle unless your lifitng+getting your proteins in _________________ "If this team wont step up, I WILL"- Sasha Vujacic |

actually I am...every second work-out is weight lifiting...but I have fallen so much in love with cardio lol...my friend Prentice who is a fitness coach there, always complains and says "get off the effin stepper / cross trainer". because I usually always end up 2 hours on it at least.
I use the following machines while lifting weights
leg curls
arm curls
chest press
butterfly
leg extension
shoulder press
lat machine
vertical traction
low row
upper back
then some machines for abdominals, adductors and abductors.
and on top of all of that I have started to do some "speed weight lifting"...I try to make fewer but quicker exercises with big weights to gain explosiveness. And I have recently started with more stretching to improve the flxibility of my muscles because if you lift weights all day you feel kinda "mechanic" on the basketball court.
I do a lot of cardio, thats right...mainly because if you have muscles but a fat film on it, nobody is gonna see it lol
I try to eat a lot to keep my weight. All I'm trying to do is to get the body fat number down...right now it is around 20, I want to have 10 percent. _________________

i've been told actually the other way around...
1)build muscle first
2)trim fat
The more muscle you have on yourself the more calories you burn at rest and the more calories you burn during cardio
I don't want to tell you what to do if you already have a nice routine going on but this might help:
http://stronglifts.com/how-to-lose-fat-fast/
I'm currently on this program....and it works:
http://stronglifts.com/stronglifts-5x5-beginner-strength-training-program/
I was 140lbs two months ago....now i'm closing in on 155lbs so i've added nearly 15lbs of muscle. It's perfect if you want to lose weight, fat, tone up,or bulk up.... _________________ "If this team wont step up, I WILL"- Sasha Vujacic |

^ you are actually right...absolutely right to say.
The first article...I 100% agree with. I really burn a damn lot more calories than I eat and while I have lost weight my body fat number is going down each day...one thing I haven't figured out yet is to stop eating chocolate...since I work out so much, I am always starving for carbs...not fat but carbs...thats something I need more disciplin for...
I knew that...and I have tried to change that for the last 6-7 days...I hope it works..
but the first article could have been mine...thats exactly right and what I know and what I was told... _________________

I'd advise that on the strength training part he recommends basically a routine built around the use of the barbell(squats, bench press, overhead press,etc)...i like to incorporate dumbells and also occasionally weight machines too.
If you like eating chocolate and can't resist it...don't fight the urge you could fold all together...the best time I recommend eating chocolate and/or other "junk" foods is RIGHT AFTER your workout...because that's when your body will burn the most kcals:

I don't think anyone here should give dietary advice to a 13 y/o vegetarian, to be honest. If that's a decision you've made, you should talk to your parents and hopefully a nutritionist about it. It's tough to get what your body needs from a vegetarian diet without supplements and I don't know how to do it period. _________________

well my parents just tell me to excercise more ( cuz other than sald there isnt much more to eat) and the nutritionist told me to eat meat ( to reduce carbs) so im not listening to her
but the reason i asked here is becasue there could be other vegetarians here with the same problem _________________ NBA Quotes:
