Uhmm no. Superstar he is not.

Yes he is...at least "one of the best players in the league". In my mind, "superstar" means something different. Gasol could be a superstar someday if on a winning team with more exposure.

I guess it depends on how long your "best players in the league" list is. Mine's a short list. He's not even one of the top 3 at his own position.

Top 3 centers in the league are Yao, Gasol and Amare (who's really a PF). Howard and Bosh are also PFs. Shaq isn't as good as Gasol. Brad Miller isn't. Big Z isn't. Ben Wallace isn't. What centers are better than Gasol?

If Gasol plays PF/C why are Bosh and Howard excluded?

If we can get him for Kwame and scubs/picks, we have to do it. But we have like no chance at getting him.

Gasol is a C, not a PF. Pau is also an equal to these guys currently, if not better, but you can't consider PF/C an actual position, or limiting it to 3 players is being too restrictive.

Take 2005 stats:

Pau - 20/9/5 and 2 blocks.
Bosh - 22/9/3 and 1 block.
Hwrd - 16/12/2 and 1 block.

As for this year, you can't compare stats yet but it's fair to look at Bosh and Howard's stats for improvement:

Bosh - 22/11/2 and 1 block.
Hwrd - 17/12/2 and 2 blocks.

Factor in Pau's passing and ability to score inside and out, and these guys have not outplayed him yet, though they're still getting better. But in factoring who the best players are in the league, potential doesn't count, only actual production on the floor, and Pau is the best center in the league aside from Yao, although if considering Bosh a C he would be his equal, while I wouldn't quite put Howard there yet.

Memphis is looking for young guns and salary cap relief..... with that said, Mihm/McKie/Shammond/Bynum for Gasol works salary wise....

Our line up:

PG - Smush
SG - Kobe
SF - Lamar
PF - Gasol
C - Kwame

Memphis Line Up Next Year:

PG - Kyle Lowry
SG - Rudy Gay
SF - Hakim Warick
PF - Andrew Bynum
C - Greg Oden

They get a young guy in Andrew, and they get almost 8 mill in cap relief, combined with Eddie Jones 15 mill off the books... thats 23 mill.

Lakers are championship team for now, Memphis are for the future. Simple.

to get pau odom would have to be included in the deal also.
cuz odom besides kobe has more value than anyother player on the
team.he would certainly have to be in the deal.

No he does not.
Memphis is looking for young guys and salary cap relief. Odom does not do that for them. He is young, but not as young as they want.

L.A. Lakers Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
Kwame Brown
Chris Mihm
Aaron McKie
Brian Cook
Shammond Williams
Incoming
Pau Gasol
Brian Cardinal
Damon Stoudamire
Successful Scenario! Trade ID for this scenario is 3617833.

Why Memphis does it...
CAP RELIEF!! (The team is for sale) They dump all of their BAD long term contracts in one fatal swoop. After Eddie Jones is bought out they have the ever so coveted cap space to retool their roster next summer. They also add a youg powerful and agile big man in Kwame, and a deadly shooter in Cook that they hoped to have had in Cardinal. They waive all of the other expiring contract players. (We include 3 million dollars to help with that). They will get a high lottery pick in next years draft to continue their rebuilding process for the new owner.

Why LA wants it...
This move would move LA into ELITE status in the west. Gasol provides the consistent low post scoring this team so desperately needs. They give up their best interior defender but Kwame will never be a good compliment to Bynum, and HE IS our future at center. We have to take on the TERRIBLE contract of Cardinal but he may fit in as a specialist in Phil's system similar (but less effective) to what Cook had. (We may also pick up Eddie Jones if they waive him)

Smush/Farmar/Stoudemire
Kobe/Evans/Sasha
Luke/Radman
Odom/Turiaf/Cardinal
Gasol/Bynum
(Next year when Bynum matures, Gasol at 4 and Odom at 3)

Your thoughts emplay...

[/b]

Memphis wids up with:

Chucky/Lowry
Miller/D.Jones/
Gay/Warrick
Swift/Roberts/Johnson
Kwame/Tsakadilis

Not bad pieces to add a lottery pick to.

gasol for odom can bring in legitimate fit issues but if we can keep odom and lose either of our main centers i think there would be little question as to the complete benefit that would do us. remember gasol is [relatively] young too for a star. so if we can do it w/o losing odom i'm all for it. (and obviously inclusive to other bad moves). we got tons of deadweights, an overfilled 3 position, and two centers that i wouldnt mind losing.

I have a great idea: let's trade Pau for Kwame so we can get even softer.
Pau = gushy soft. Lakers don't exactly need to get any softer right now.

act on what? do you think the Lakers are the only team in the league and that every GM calls the Lakers first (hey Mitch, before we call anyone, we want to offer ________ to you guys for real cheap)? and, by the way, when they don't get Gasol, it has nothing to do with garnett. back to sleep.

since the Lakers dont pratice Defense who cares if we dump Kwame.
With Pau we become Legit title contenders(well offensively anyway)
Time is now for Bynum anyway Kwame well be a spot defender anyway we shud just replace him with a hackawack defender ala Matt Geiger

What part of 20-9-5 with 2 blocks last season wasn't impressive?

What about the 23-17-6 with 2 blocks he put up last night on Marcus Camby?

He's the next Lebron in terms of hype. So far, he looks like he'll meet it.

Memphis gets:
Mihm
Mckie or Shammod
Kwame
2007 #1

Lakers get:
Gasol
+Filler

Smush
Walton
Kobe
LO
Gasol

Seems like a good trade to me. Memphis gets a young center Kwame, cap relief, and draft pick. Lakers get a superstar in his prime jam2
