The trade in the article doesn't work under the CBA. The Lakers have to include someone else beside just Kwame and Critt. As such I don't know if we should believe this trade since it can't happened in the form these sources are reporting it.

Has a very good stroke for a big, that can help stretch the floor. Obviously he can also play the 5, but I've always thought played more like a 4.
Alongside Drew, he's gonna look really good, as long as both don't crowd each other down low.
He has 4 years remaining meaning that he will leak into the 2010 plan. But at that time, he can be used as an expiring K as part of a S&T possibility for a team that will lose that FA (Bron, Bosh, etc.) That way, that FA can get paid (by their home team that can pay them the most) and get moved to the team they would like to go to. Gasol would a nice expiring K for any team at that time.
