Denver Addresses Major Need
By James Hoberman

As the 2005-2006 season came to a grusome ending, the fans in Denver couldn't help but wonder "What is to come this offseason?" Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke knew a change would have to be made in the front office for this team to make it far into the playoffs. The Nuggets owner stated "We felt it was in the best interest of the franchise and Kiki (Vandeweghe) to make a change. " Kroenke knew the man for the job was a Los Angeles high school student, James Hoberman, who did very well with his fantasy basketball teams. Following this change to the front office, the Denver media as well as its fans knew a trade was in store.
Hoberman did not upset his fans as he jumped right into a trade involving the New York Knicks. After week long negotiations, the Nuggets and the Knickerbockers agreed upon trading offseason aqcuistions that had been made just a year before. The Nuggets agreed to send Kenyon Martin, who caused many problems in the lockerroom and on the court(losing record with him in the game), with Earl Boykins and former NC State star Julius Hodge. In return they recieved Jamal Crawford, a lights out shooter, who struggled with the Knicks, along with Quentin Richardson who also had a hard time adjusting to Larry Brown. These two players address a need that was exposed in the first round of the playoffs, against the Clippers, outside jump shooting. Despite penetration by Andre Miller and Carmelo Anthony, players were not able to sink shots. The only player who shot particulary well for the Nuggets was Greg Buckner who's return is questionable.

Players Happy To See Kenyon Gone

Many Nuggets players, after hearing about the recent trade with Knicks, felt they were able to express feelings on Kenyon Martin. Andre Miller, especially, was open about his displeasure when Martin was on the floor, "Kenyon was a good basketball player, but really never geled with this ballclub. His attitude, I feel, affected the entire teams play. I do not dislike him as a person, but am fine with him being off of this team."

Buckner and Patterson decide to stay

Both Greg Buckner, a player who played great for the Nuggets in the first round, and Ruben "Kobe Stopper" Patterson have agreed to remain on the Nuggets for one more year. This has come as a great joy to team management as Buckner and Patterson are two players that they hoped on retaining in the offseason.

Nuggets Draft Sergio Rodriguez
By James Hoberman
Denver Post NBA Beat Reporter

In a bazaar NBA Draft in which many teams somehow forgot to show up, the Nuggets, in the last seconds of deciding on their pick, noticed a player still on the board, which other teams had not taken notice to. Sergio Rodriguez, a point guard out of Adecco Estudiantes, International was predicted to be a lottery pick who would not go further than the 13th pick. The Nuggets who, after trading Earl Boykins, were in desperate need for a backup pointguard, may have picked up the steal of the draft. Sergio Rodriguez who is 6'3" and draws comparisons to Steve Nash is described as "an off-the-charts basketball talent; one of just a few players capable of surprising even the most knowledgeable minds in the game with his moves." The new GM of the Nuggets, James Hoberman, commented on this draft pick, "I am in shock, he was just there and we took him. This solves a problem we intended on addressing in free agency."

Good pickup in Q I think. No one really has a good consistent 3 shot and now the Nuggets have a guy who can shoot the 3.
