GENERAL INFORMATION
There will be 20 teams. Each team will be responsible for creating their own team thread, giving themselves any team name they desire. I’ll do my best to choose managers based on who was first, but also on your post history, if you’ve done GM League’s before, and so on. Only those who will be fully engaged will be allowed.
The draft order will be randomized. I’ll do this myself using random generation tool online. You’ll have to trust me. The first pick in the 1st round will get the last pick in the second. It’s much like a fantasy draft. Picks will be made in order and posted in this thread. NO GOING OUT OF TURN.
ROSTERS
Each roster will be comprised of fifteen players. Euros who aren't currently in the NBA are not allowed. Players chosen who are currently in the league are assumed to be at their current basketball skill level.
You are allowed to pick three players that are not currently in the league. These players are considered to be in the prime of their careers. For the sake of stopping controversy before it starts, any player who touched the court during the 60's is disqualified from being picked. I don't care if a player was a rookie in 1969 and dominated the 70's, they CANNOT be picked. The assumption (true or not) of inflated stats will cause debates that will overshadow the contest. It's hard having a game centered around legends without Wilt and Russell, but I think it will make everything easier in the long run.
TRADES
Trades can only happen after the draft concludes. Aside from the first pick you make, any player will be tradeable. Each team will be allowed two make two trades. Three team trades are allowed. A player can only change teams once.
THE MITCH MAGIC WAND RULE
If you feel the need to wave the wand, you can make any current NBA player and turn them into their prime self. Want to get a prime J-Kidd? You can do it. However, using the wand means you're only able to select ONE player not currently in the league. You can get that prime Kidd and Ewing, but is that worth the trade off of selected three HOFers?
PLAYOFFS/WRITE-UPS
At the conclusion of the trading portion of the contest, each GM will submit a write-up as to why their team should be one of the top four teams. The judges will then pick the top four, seed them, and a Final Four will begin. |

Who wants to do a draft with current players only? Same rules apply (except for eras, obviously). I think this could be a lot of fun.
16 teams, 15 players per team = 240 players to pick.
It could take a little longer, but I think it would be a lot more fun, easier to judge, and more in tune with what we all know.

I actually mentioned this idea to JSM, but basically have a GM Challenge with a fantasy draft. Like you said it would be more in tune with what we all know, and different from anything we've done before. However, I will admit I have a blast doing the all-era thing, as I learn a lot about the history of the NBA.
I think I'm leaning towards All-Era but will participate in either.

I'd also say perhaps make a thread about this in OC or something. Someone might be interested in this that didn't do GM Challenge, and would never visit this forum.

I want in if it's doing the current NBA players only.
Sounds more interesting and the judges would have much more info to judge a team by as well as making it easier/less study to do the write-ups.

How are the players stats going to be judged? By their prime numbers? Current numbers?
Maybe projected stats and impact for players who haven't hit their prime yet like Labron, Dwight Howard and Rookies?

LeBron and Dwight are who they are; elite talents in this league that will surely be picked in the top-10. Rookies like Beasley and Rose will help any team, but still, I'd go with the more proven talent.
