Mutombo and Scola did nothing tonight. I'm not sure why your saying Bynum couldn't handle him.
Kwame did no better on Yao than Bynum did. Not that it matters anyway. Yao scored 25 points tonight. He averaged 25 points a game last season, so the Lakers just held him to his average. Bottom line, Yao's going to get his points, the key is to make sure he doesn't have a spectacular above average game. Kwame and Bynum did that tonight.
What Bynum as well as Kwame did tonight was help out the other guys defensively. Kwame did it more in the 1st half while Bynum did it more in the 2nd. Unfortunately, our offense was often out of sync and stagnent at times. Our defense kept us in it during the end. _________________ Please Read the HDTV Media FAQ http://www.clublakers.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=51627

To be honest, it was about the same. Bynum affected Yao with his strength and length, while Brown affected Yao with strength and speed. Together they allowed him to score 25 points, which is pretty much his average from last year.
I love the way Bynum was physical with Yao. He wasn't doing that last year. With his new body, he's now strong enough to do it. _________________ Please Read the HDTV Media FAQ http://www.clublakers.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=51627

guys relax
Bynum, Farmar, Turiaf and so are all relatively young players without much experience...its tough to play in front of 20,000 faces on opening night with all the controversy going on....give them a break...we played a team that is supposed to contend and we lost by 2 without a healthy Bryant and without Lamar Odom...

| Good game to watch guys, but refs were way too ft happy!!! Kobe was Kobe, forced alot of shots, bu came up clutch. TMac looked great, as did Yao. Rafer Alston almost cost em the game. Shane Battier really saved them. I can see with some work on their offense, Houston being legit this yr, but who knows, same was said last yr. I just hope for the sake of things, Kobe stays in LA, these close games and 4th qtr drama will never happen if he gets traded. |

Great interview I thought. You could see the "oh my God come on" look on Kobe's face when he was told about what Magic said about them deciding in a week. The question about it being the first time he was booed, that was great, he laughs and goes 'no, it wasn't, I've had a couple 10 for 40 games'. Kobe knows what's up, he knows he's human and he's had some bad nights, 10 for 40 is kinda exaggerating I think, but for him to make fun of himself like that, that's cool. _________________ Weezy's Weemens

Just got back from the game.. honestly they did better than i expected...
ABYSMAL third qrtr... FISH IS ALL HEART AND ENGINE... that woulda been a blow without him... and farmar too....
phill had questionable sub tactics... and there were times Kobe was forcing the issue WAAAAY too much... and he coulda passed the ball twice on the wing and DIDNT
rockets look very beatable.. as we are NOT a good team... i thought we would pull it off... but at least we didnt give up... i think this game is gonna be the epitome of this season.... a little bit of heart.. a little bit of effort... some giving up.. and BARELY being respectable.... _________________ CLUB-DODGERS

We lost a game to a top 5 NBA team by 2 points without Lamar. And it was only because Battier hit a lucky shot with Luke's hand straight in his face. |
Not to much Kobe wasn't 100%. I'm not worried after today's game, I'm actually a little inspired by the team's defensive effort. _________________

To be fair they missed a LOT of shots early on that they wouldn't normaly miss I'd think. But then again our defense was active all night for the most part, the effort was definetly there from the starters ( and Farmar) all game. _________________ Weezy's Weemens

Yeah, soon as Kwame came back in, Yao hit 2 shots on him. |
He hit a few on Bynum too...Drew was getting tired. It was smart to bring Kwame back in, but questionable not to bring Bynum back for the final free throw, unless we were trying to fool them or something.
Also, we should have given the ball more to Drew when he was in there. _________________ ...as I enter your mind, decorate and paint my sign...LA Lakers will be 2008-09 NBA Champions! |

Luke was well up in Shane's grill...dude just hit a crazy shot. Even McGrady in the interview with Shane was like "we can get a better shot than that".

Actually Kwame lost it to begin with. He went to grab it and it tipped off his hand, surprised Luke and before Luke could realize "Hey, it's Kwame, of course he isn't going to catch it, let me be ready", it tipped off his hand. |

I turned to ESPN right a the 10:30 show (when the game was supposedly over, 1 minute, 36 secs to go). I see the bottomline: Torre Agree w/ Dodgers, so Ieave it to find out more unti they show the Lakers only down 4, 92-88 after the highlights. I turn back obviously. Hectic game, but they never gave up. Pressure on defense (Luke) and some key shots we're impressive. We amost stole this one, but that doesn't excuse some o the mistakes we made early on and not taking advantage of Houston's poor ballhandling. _________________

SOB!!! Last night when we went down ten, i decided to go brush my teeth before bed, i go back into my room and we were down two. Then fisher hit the shot to tie it, and then Battier hit the winner. Even though we lost, it was good to see Laker basketball back on, and we played well without Odom which is a plus. Im liking the whole "Lakers are not good" comments by different analysist. I hope it motivates the Lakers further, and they fly under the radar and just take every team by suprise. Again guys its only game one, we will be at full strength in a week or two. _________________

i totally see where you're coming from, but i think it's just one of the necessary "lame" strategies of the game. what's different about a team that is down by 2, the other team has the ball, there's less than 24 seconds left, so they have to foul. Why not play the entire 24 seconds actually playing defense and going for the steal? It's boring and lame to take the easy way out by fouling and hoping he misses ft's.
If there's several minutes left and a team is doing a hack-a-shaq type thing, then that really disrupts the game. I see this as a necessary part of the game. It would have been 100X better seeing kobe go for the game tying 3, but i wouldnt call the strategy lame. to be honest, i was really excited about the ft attempts. He HAS to make the first and miss the second, get a rebound and make it for the tie. You know what? He almost pulled it off. That was incredibly exciting, at least to me.
Oh well. To each his own. I understand your POV. _________________

We forced steals, jumpballs, and fought and clawed to get back. That's not a "fluke", it's hard work and determination. If you want to put your head in your lap every time the Lakers lose, then so be it. Just don't expect other fans to do the same. _________________ Please Read the HDTV Media FAQ http://www.clublakers.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=51627
