They've been shying away from Love a lot lately, a lot all year actually. A lot of his points come off of putbacks and such, they remind me of the Lakers last year, afraid to pass into the post. I give credit to Memphis though, all year they were discounted and everyone said they'd lose a game and never considered them a contender. I hope they win it all now, I hate North Carolina.[/quote]

Good season guys!

Unfortunately, we lost in the Final Four again, but each time it was to a team that deserved to win the game.

I'm guessing Love, Collison, and Westbrook will all go pro. We have two promising prospects to replace Collison and Westbrook in Malcolm Lee and Jrue Holiday, respectively. There is no replacing Love, however, and we're going to have to get by without a post presence yet again.

Look for the Bruins to have another long season with a lot of new faces next year. jam2

Westbrook is not consistent enough. That would be a big mistake. He can be the big man on campus as well if he returns and make his stock rise next year. As for Love, he seems to like Westwood, so I'm going to hold out hope.

I really think Westbrook and Love should both come back, I don't think they are NBA ready. Westbrook could use another year to polish his skills and get consistent like grego said. Love, a bigger guy like Dorsey kinda bothered him, I think he needs to put on muscle and just grow as a player to really make it in the NBA.

Hard to believe Collison just did not show up at all. Probably a big coaching mistake to not put Westbrook on Rose from the start. Also have to pin it on coaching that they did not get Love involved in the 2nd half.

Tough luck UCLA. Twice they played a FLA team that had 4 of 5 starters drafted in the first round. That FLA will go down as one of the best NCAA teams in history.

This year they lose to Memphis who will produce 2-3 first round NBA talent.

Any other year UCLA coulda won. Just not these 3 years.

I would be very surprised if Kansas give Memphis a game in the finals.

85 -72 Memphis.

I feel really bad for UCLA I wanted them to win it all, my heart is really for them because they are in my home city even though I am a die hard ohio state fan, but I really wanted them to take it, it just looked like their year man5

ucla had some key opportunities in this game for sure... the two that come to mind most for me are when keefe in n outed a three & in the next possesion for the bruins, collison did as well... those shots would've been huge had they gone in for ucla.. other than that, it looked to me like memphis was just a bit too overwhelming, although not as much as i thought coming in, but collison sadly, but truly did get raped. his size was a great disadvantage no doubt. they struggled to get love the ball as well, but all in all, credit to memphis i suppose, ya gotta tip your hat and just admit their the better team as much as it hurts.

the pain of defeat.

How much higher can Westbrook's stock rise? He's already projected as going 10th. Are you suggesting he can be a top 5 pick? lol.

Of course there are things he can improve on, such as his jumpshot, but if you're a top 10 pick, you almost have to go. In my opinion, he's overrated right now, his stock is high, so he has to go.

Love will also go. What else could he improve? All that's left is to develop some consistency with his perimeter shot. He's as complete and polished a player as he'll ever be. He has nearly zero potential due to his lack of athleticism. At the same time, he's a safe pick because you know what you're getting with him.

Love and Collison are entering their names in the draft and expected to hire agents.

This is a bad draft if Westbrook goes even in the top 10. He's still far too inconsistent. He'd benefit from college more than sitting on a bench with an NBA team. At UCLA, he could become the go to guy and raise his stock.

If he decides to go without an agent and see if he gets any bites, i'm sure he'll see that he won't go early in the draft.

Sources say Love will leave UCLA

Freshman center expected to make himself available for NBA draft. Collison says he has not made a decision.
By Diane Pucin, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
April 9, 2008
Kevin Love has probably played his last game for UCLA and will make himself available for the NBA draft, sources close to the player said Tuesday. While a source said junior point guard Darren Collison had also decided to leave early, Collison said Tuesday night that he had not made any decision on his plans for next season.

"I haven't made up my mind at all," Collison said. "I don't have a decision yet."

Sources said UCLA Coach Ben Howland was told of the decisions Monday. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to make an announcement until after Howland holds a season-ending news conference this afternoon.

Love, a 6-foot-10, 270-pound center, led the Bruins with averages of 17.5 points and 10.6 rebounds. The freshman was Pacific 10 Conference player of the year, a first-team All-American and most outstanding player of the NCAA regional at Anaheim. Collison, a junior point guard, was a third-team All-American.

Love could not be reached for comment; his father, Stan, deferred to Howland; and Howland did not make himself available.

Most NBA draft experts project Love being chosen anywhere from sixth to No. 13 overall, and that is the information Howland gave Love, sources said.

NBA team officials risk seven-figure fines for speaking publicly about college players, but an East team scout said Love had raised his draft position steadily during the Pac-10 season -- from a possible low first-round pick to a lottery pick. And even being held to 12 points and nine rebounds in a 78-63 UCLA loss to Memphis last Saturday in an NCAA semifinal didn't change that.

"That was one game," the scout said, "and as a team UCLA couldn't run its offense."

The Bruins have been prepared to lose Collison since last spring, when the former Etiwanda High standout first considered testing his NBA status.

Collison, 6 feet and 160 pounds, played two of the worst games of his college career in UCLA's last three games. Against Western Kentucky, he fouled out trying to guard Hilltoppers guard Tyrone Brazelton, who scored 31 points and torched him during a second half when the Bruins blew most of a 21-point lead. Then, in the loss to Memphis, he fouled out again, having scored two points with four assists and five turnovers in being dominated by Derrick Rose, a 6-3, 205-pound freshman.

However, an NBA Western Conference team official said, "I thought he was a mid-first round pick [before Memphis]. I think he still is. That's what his talent says to me."

The sources said both players planned to remain in good academic standing, so their leaving early would not potentially cost the Bruins a scholarship. Programs that do not meet certain NCAA requirements for graduating players risk such penalties. Because UCLA is on a quarter system and instruction in the spring quarter started just last week, both players may still withdraw from classes without penalty.

Love is expected to return to his family's Lake Oswego, Ore., home later this week before coming back for UCLA's team banquet on Monday.

The Bruins may also lose Russell Westbrook, a sophomore. He played opposite Collison but moved to the point when Collison was injured early this season.

One scout projected Westbrook as a possible lottery pick, and the guard's family has indicated that he would probably leave school if expectations were that he would go early. He had a career-high 22 points against Memphis and, at 6-3, 190 pounds, was the one UCLA player suited to run, jump and bump with the Tigers.

It's also possible the Bruins could lose as many as four other players.

Debbie Shipp, mother of redshirt junior Josh Shipp, said it was too soon to make a decision about his future, though her son's two-month long shooting slump and the fact he has had surgery on each of his hips the last two years make him a questionable prospect for the draft's first round. Only players picked in the first round are guaranteed contracts.

Junior Luc Richard Mbah a Moute may, like Shipp, make himself eligible for the April 27 draft, not hire an agent, be evaluated, then come back to school.

Junior Alfred Aboya, who will earn his degree this summer, has indicated he may not use his final year of basketball eligibility and concentrate on getting a master's degree. Sophomore reserve Nikola Dragovic said he is considering going home to Serbia to play professionally.

Times staff writer Mark Heisler contributed to this report.

question for you Bruins, If Collison, Love and Westbrook leave to the NBA, what do you see as your starting five next year? You have Jrue Holiday coming in next year, who is just a baller, and i would expect him to run the point.

What are yalls thoughts about Mbah a Moute's decision to stay in the draft and hire an agent?

Personally I think it is the biggest mistake made by any of the early entrants in this year's draft.

I'll call him Luc because I can't spell his last name. I think it's a mistake as well. When he first came to the team I thought he was a lock as the best NBA prospect on the team, but then he never really improved. I think he needs to milk the college arena to learn as long as he can. Then again maybe if he goes to the pros they can work with him better and improve his game. He's got skill, he just never really wowed me after his first year because I'd seen all he could do it seemed.
