Quote:
USC freshman guard O.J. Mayo will declare for the NBA draft and will hire an agent soon, a school spokesperson said.

Mayo is projected in the top 10 in the NBA lottery. Mayo led the Trojans in scoring with 20.7 points a game, 4.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists a game. Mayo helped lead the Trojans to a 21-12 overall record, 11-7 in the Pac-10.

USC lost to Kansas State in a 6 vs. 11 matchup in the NCAA first round in Omaha, Neb.

USC officials were expected to send out a release announcing Mayo's decision later Wednesday night.

Mayo told USC officials that he would stay in school for the rest of the spring semester.

Thats a bold statement. LOL but not only that i think he is the most talented player in this draft. Mayo has Superstar written all over him. The things he does his skills is made for the NBA you could tell. And i got the honor to watch him play live for 5 USC home games, and i also got the honor to watch Kevin Love play 8 home games. I know im a So Cal Homer, but Love & Mayo so easily be the #1 & #2 players taken, cuz they're ready 2 play now.

That really explains the line after that. Neither are a top 3 pick. Love really needs another year of college ball. He got shutdown by Dorsey and he's going to see that nightly against bigger, better, stronger defenders in the NBA. He's not ready.

And Mayo at this point is a turnover waiting to happen. He could use another year as well. He needs to bulk up, learn the difference between a good pass and a bad pass, and take it to the hoop more.

mayo is top 5

depending on the draft order/team needs, he 'could' go 3

after beasley and love, there are few lottery names that have lived up to the hype in the tournament, which is the only reason why mayo will get drafted high.

^ I think he'll be top 5, but he won't go before Brook Lopez. At best he'll go 4. But I could easily see Bayless going before him as well.

Everything in Bold is absolutely true.

And none of it will change with an extra year in college.

I doubt he grows any more. He is just as likely to grow taller in the NBA.

I doubt he remakes his body at UCLA. With an an NBA nutritionist, NBA money to shop at Bristol Farms & Whole Foods and hire a health conscious chef combined with an NBA strength coach he is liklier to remake his body than another year of Ucla Keggers and mess hall food.

He is incredibly skilled and he can't improve his skills significantly in one extra year of college ball.

The only way to learn the NBA game is by playing in the NBA.

If he stays another year he is my candidate Most likely to get Kapanoed.

Fall in the draft projections the longer he stays in school. The longer he stays the less "Potential" he has and more reality sets in. He goes from guaranteed Lottery contract to " maybe he can refine his game in Europe and come back to the NBA someday" -land.

Mayo is absolutely ready to be a backup 2 gaurd in the league. He has an NBA ready body and has no need to bulk up. He can refine his PG skills in the league to become a much sought after combo guard by the time his rookie deal expires.

He is a Top 5 Pick. Waiting an extra year he has very little to gain and possibly a career ending injury waiting to happen.

Both young guys should sign their NBA contracts ASAP and don't look back.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mayo got taken first overall. He's athletic, he can score....thats about as far as it goes.

with that being said, I think Mayo will go down as one of the most overrated players to ever play the game. I haven't seen anything special from him.

He has a zero percent chance of going before Rose or Beasley. And the only way he goes before Lopez is if the team is in dire need of a two guard and most of the lottery teams have bigger needs.
