As a long time Laker fan I am tempted to pull the trigger on that trade - the only problem I can see is that we'd have to give up picks. Lewis is an improving player but I'm in two minds as to what to do. As much as I would hate to get rid of Fisher, George really isn't improving that much while Lewis would fill that hole at PF allowing us to grab GP with the MLE and possibly Griffin as our Sf for the minimum.
As for the Pippen rumour the possiblity of trading George means that we wouldn't have a SF if Fox hasn't recovered. By signing Pippen we could draft a SF and use Pippen as a mentor. Just a thought. _________________

L-brain,
Isn't Devean, Fisher, and the 2 picks for Rashard Lewis a bit too much to ask. We are getting scammed if we made this trade. Don't get me wrong, I luve Lewis' game, but were are giving way to much with this proposed trade rumor. |

| Lamar is a good fit for Orlando. T-Mac needs that second wheel and Odom will have the released pressure of being the man in the team. |

| I think this does belong in the rumor section, but since it is already here...I say we have Pargo and Rush, so dumping Devean and Fish doesn't hurt that much...also we will get GP and he knows how to play with Lewis...then we sign Adrian Griffin and use him as our Starter @ Sf with Kareem as the back up until Foxie recovers...then we can also use Slava a bit more as Rashard's back up and we can re-sign Horry as the 3rd PF option, Madsen can be the back up center and a safety net in case someone gets injured... |

as I have already stated I think that the trade is a great, i'd just think that we need to get a player from this draft, maybe a first round pick from next year as well as this years could be a better deal for us. _________________

Would you seriously consider NOT making that deal? Look at the roster we'd have:
PG: Payton / Pargo
SG: Kobe / Rush
SF: Griffin / Fox
PF: Lewis / Medvedenko / Horry
C: O'neal / Madsen
5 guys that play great defense...and all the benchers are strong as well...not a bad deal if you ask me...and we can improve the next year via the draft and the MLE, LLE and VME... |

I wouldn't make that deal. Lewis for Fisher, George and our picks, are you crazy? You going to give up two experience players that are comfortable running the offense for someone that needs to learn the offense and two picks. And you say this will definately bring GP. How do you know? And lets say GP goes down that leaves Pargo running the Point and you want Rush to back up Lewis. Man, I'm glad you guys aren't the GM.
If Mitch was to make this trade and it doesn't pan out, all of you would be calling for his head. How could he give up Fish and D. George. Snakell Beast, where are you? Normally, I agree with 75% of the things you say, but this is crazy. Someone please find out what happen to the real SBeast.
GP/Fisher
Kobe/Rush/P?(the guy from the clippers)
D. George/Griffin/Fox
D. Coleman/Medvedenko/Horry
O'neal
Now this is a lineup and it's possible. Wthout trading two of our most experience players. And we will still have 2 picks. So if we wanted to pull off a sign and trade for GP (but without giving up both Fish and George) we could. And, then would could use our MLE for Howard.
I'm out!

| Rashard has something that is universally communicative in basketball, Athletic Ability and Natural Talent. If Samaki Walker can come in and contribute a solid season in a championship year as a first year triangle starter, then Rashard Lewis can do better...I'll give you a guarantee on that...and if GP doesn't come, we can always get Smush Parker, Andre Miller (remember that we still have the MLE on this scenario) or trade for Jason Terry and use the MLE on James Posey or Lamar Odom...there are options....remember that Rush is someone the Hawks want, so don't say it isn't me, and don't question my level of analysis either...it just isn't practical... |

In fact, if we waited until we signed GP or until GP went to another team we would have many options. If GP comes in, we spend the MLE on a Small Forward, among the MLE / LLe players at that position are:
James Posey
Lamar Odom
Adrian Griffin
Corey Maggette
Scottie Pippen
Donnell Harvey
Lee Nailon
Dion Glover
DerMarr Johnson
Juaquin Hawkins
Mike Batiste
Calbert Cheaney

If GP goes elsewhere and we make the trade anyway, we have several options at PG as well for the MLE...
PG Options:
Kevin Ollie
Brent Price
Jacque Vaughn
Kenny Anderson
Eddie House
Smush Parker
Jason Terry
Milt Palacio
Junior Harrington
Shammond Williams
Gilbert Arenas
Earl Boykins
Andre Miller
Travis Best
Darrell Armstrong
Antonio Daniels
Speedy Claxton
Mark Jackson

Then there is the ideal situation with this possible trade. Here is how it transpires in the best case scenario:
We trade D-Fish, Devean George and our #24/#32 to Seattle for Rashard Lewis.
We Trade Kareem Rush and Mark Madsen to the Hawks (in an abbreviated version of the Ratliff Terry deal, minus Horry and Ratliff) for Jason Terry
We extend Horry for the 5.3 million.
We sign James Posey with the MLE.
We sign Eric Piatkowski for the minimum.
Now our roster looks like this:
PG: Jason Terry / Jannero Pargo
SG: Kobe Bryant / Eric Piatkowski
SF: James Posey / Eric Piatkowski (until Rick Fox recovers)
PF: Rashard Lewis / Stanislav Medvedenko / Robert Horry
C: Shaquille O'neal / Stanislav Medvedenko
I am not claiming this will happen, but it is a realistically optimistic possibility and it is only one of a miriad of possibilities regarding this possible trade, don't assume I haven't thought out every rumored or likely possible scenario involving my beloved Lakers, because I know every aspect of all of them and I know very much what is in the best interests for our team...Let us hope Mitch and Jerry do as well... |

SB, if you think Phil would go for 3 new starters in our line up you are crazy. You don't have to worry about Mitch, Phil will never let that happen. Hell Kobe won't go for that. What I don't understand that many of you think the lakers need a complete overhaul and I disagree, as does many so called experts. We just need to tweak the team. A couple overhaul with 3 new starters, is not the way to go for our Beloved Lakers. We need to focus on the PG/PF positions and look for another backup SF to help George out until Fox returns. Another reason we don't want Lewis, is money and if you checked everything out you would notice that Lewis made 6.233 mill last year and that salary jumps to 8.5 this year and 9.2 mill in 2004-2005 season. Now tell me how the hell we're going to be afford Shaq contract, Kobe will have a new contract (around 15 mill, also they butter check with Kobe about any potential trades or moves. If you think the Grizzlies aren't positions themselves for a run a Kobe you are crazy. And moving D. Fisher and D. George wouldn't make Kobe happy), and afford Lewis at 9 million. We will never be able to sign another player. See, this overhauls are not good business for the future; maybe one year but not the future. This move would kill us for the future. We would be renting Terry for a year and then he would leave for more money. Are you serious about giving James Posey our MLE? Man, that is crazy. He's not worth 5 million! Again, I say I'm glad Mitch is the GM.
Also, Snakell Beast don't take things so personal. I wasn't degrading your analysis, I was just having fun man. Some folks take things too personal on this site. |
