Quote:
Coming Soon.net: As a follow up to last year's blockbuster Batman Begins, Christopher Nolan is set to direct Warner Bros. Pictures' The Dark Knight, written by Jonathan Nolan, based on a story by Christopher Nolan and David Goyer. The film will be produced by Emma Thomas, Charles Roven and Christopher Nolan. Additionally, Christian Bale will resume his role as Bruce Wayne and Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger has been cast as The Joker. The announcements were made today by Jeff Robinov, President of Production, Warner Bros. Pictures.

Christopher Nolan revamped the Batman franchise in 2005 with the immensely successful Batman Begins, starring Christian Bale in the title role, which chronicled the early years of the superhero. Nolan first garnered attention from critics and fans in 2000 with the groundbreaking drama Memento, which he wrote and directed. He went on to direct the thriller Insomnia, starring Al Pacino and Robin Williams, and recently wrapped production on The Prestige, with Hugh Jackman and Bale.

Bale was most recently seen in the ensemble cast of Terrence Malick's The New World. His other credits include Little Women, Portrait of a Lady, Metroland, American Psycho, Laurel Canyon and Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun, which was his first starring role.

Ledger most recently earned Oscar Golden Globe, BAFTA and SAG Award nominations and won the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Ennis Del Mar in the award-winning drama Brokeback Mountain. His other credits include Casanova, Monster's Ball, Lords of Dogtown, The Brothers Grimm and The Patriot.

"Chris' unique vision is what made 'Batman Begins' such an outstanding film and we could not imagine anyone else at the helm of 'The Dark Knight,'" said Robinov. "We also can't wait to see two such formidable actors as Christian and Heath face off with each other as Batman and The Joker."

"I'm excited to continue the story we started with 'Batman Begins,'" added Nolan. "Our challenge in casting The Joker was to find an actor who is not just extraordinarily talented but fearless. Watching Heath Ledger's interpretation of this iconic character taking on Christian Bale's Batman is going to be incredible."

Production is set to begin on The Dark Knight in early 2007.

The last one was actually decent IMO. There was that "shock" element if you didn't see it coming because there's actually more of a mystery element, and he's NINJA! mhihi

^ Compared to Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, yes. But it puts Batman Returns, Batman Forever, and Batman & Robin to shame. It's arguably the best superhero movie (that and Spiderman are right up there).

I suggest seeing it as soon as you get the chance.

Yeah I would say it is more darker. Batman Begins is more adult than the previous crappy batman movies.

Well, you are a fellow movie buff so i will indeed peep this ASAP. Ill have to get back into the batman franchise i suppose, i did like and now own both spiderman movies as i believe they were pretty accurate to what they were attempting to portray and contained good acting.

I think a Edgier more human driven Batman would be better for my tastes...

It's pretty slow at first, but when they say "restart of the franchise", they really mean RESTART because it takes a while to get into things. But once it does, it's great.

BUT its nice to see how Batman got his training and a deeper explanation while he devotes his life to helping others.

DMK you gotta see it, it was one of the best movies of that year.

Yep. It has a great plot.

Only bad actor in the movie was Katie Holmes, but I've heard they replaced her.

So this one is just Joker??? Not Joker and Penguin??? Either way is fine...it would just be cool if they could do all the Batman Movies so it is finally one person...and then we will all be happy with Batman and Robin getting redone and everything since it sucked so much and everything...

But that's just me.....

I wouldn't call it dark...entirely...I mean it is a mind bender...total mind bender but that was like just the first time...as soon as you see it once...it doesn't seem that bad...they mad Scarecrow like insanely as far as being scary to people and stuff...although it sucked that all his costume was....was a sack of potatoes over his head so...but whatever....I loved it....the story is awesome and everything.....

Ditto...I want them to redo all the batman movies...even if Bale is way old when they do each one...it would be cooler to see one actor do a whole series such as batman...it would be cool to also see who they would have be Robin if they got that far....and it would be cool to see if they could get to Mr. Freeze....and make him look more insane and totally make that Batman...10x better than it was.....

Do all 4 Batmans if you can...this series and the Spider-man Series are awesome...makes up for where LOTR was just 3 movies...and then makes-up for Harry Potter taking forever to film and everything....

I actually liked her in there although she had some crappy parts and wasn't in it alo plus you had to laugh when they did the whole love scene stuff since she was just starting to get way serious with Tom Cruise and everything....

But if they replaced her...big whoop...plus it would make since because they never kept the same girl in there when it came to who Batman loved...I mean it went from Kim Baysinger to Michelle Pfiffer to Nicole Kidman to some other chick....so if she stays....it kind of throws it off....unless she is just there in the back-ground to fill space and stay friends...which is fine...but I hope they stay with the old look of a different girl everytime kind of like James Bond kind of thing so......

I don't think Bale would agree to play in all of them and without him it just won't be the same. In the last series the first batman movie was very good too IMHO, the second much, much worse but it didn't hurt me to watch it, but the next parts were just awful

I liked the 3rd one because it worked with Jim Carrey and Nicole Kidman and all that...the 4th one was alright...although Coloney didn't work that well and Arnold kind of killed Mr. Freeze a little so....
