Guys I was wondering does the Rose Bowl require a Pac 10 representative which means that it would be a Cal Michigan game or what is it now that SC is playing in the Championship game if they get through UCLA.

The Rose Bowl gets the Pac 10 & Big 10 Champions UNLESS those teams go to the National Championship Game. If they do lose a team to the Title Game they then get the 1st choice ahead of the other BCS bowls to replace those teams.
For example: This season if USC plays OSU in the National Championship Game then the Rose Bowl has lost BOTH the Pac 10 & Big 10 Champs, so they get to pick any 2 BCS Bowl teams (excluding other bowls that automatically get certain conference champions like the Rose does with the Pac 10 & Big 10 Champs). They're more than likely to choose Michigan this season. Their opponent is a bit more up in the air. It could be Notre Dame, LSU, or possibly Louisville. We'll just have to see how it shapes up. _________________

JSJ summed it up, this year they get to pick both. Michigan will certainly be one. The other one is up in the air. If its NotreDame I may hang myself. Why waste such a good bowl on another blowout.... _________________ I Offered My Honor

I really hope the Rose Bowl does the right thing and makes it a Michigan-LSU game. That would be A LOT of talent on the field and its always fun to see two evenly-matched teams play that hadn't during the season. Although the thought of an SEC team winning the Rose Bowl makes me want to puke. _________________

Id much rather have LSU than NotreDame again. There is no need to play them twice. Plus, I want an actual bowl game, with a challenge, not a practice squad send off for the seniors (entire Michigan defense)
Id actually LOVE Florida. Last time Michigan - Florida met in a Bowl Game, Rex Grossman was the QB. (and michigan won ) _________________ I Offered My Honor

Unfortunately no, 18th ranked 3 loss Cal does not have a chance at a BCS bowl. _________________ I Offered My Honor

Rose will be LSU/Michigan. Rumor out here in LA is the Rose Bowl commissioner made a deal with the Sugar Bowl to take LSU so Sugar can match up the SEC champ with Notre Dame. Sugar really wants Florida to pull it off so they can play the Urban Meyer/Charlie Weis offensive genius angle or something.
Rose Bowl doesn't really like the prospects of a rematch (as they shouldn't) between ND and Michigan, so they'll be very happy with an LSU/Michigan matchup. They've never met in their history, so the Rose Bowl likes it.
Things shaking up like this:
NC: USC / tOSU
Rose: Mich / LSU
Fiesta: BSU / Big XII Champion (OU)
Orange: Big East Champion (Louisville) / ACC Champion (GTech)
Sugar: ND / SEC Champion (Florida) _________________

1. Fiesta Bowl - Most people would look down on this matchup, but not me. I think it will be intriguing. A potent offense mid-major vs the defense+run game of the big time traditional school. I think its just the kind of thing that can draw interest to a bowl game. Now, I wouldnt want to see Boise/Mich in the Rose Bowl, but Boise/Nebraska/Oklas would be good.
2. Youre probably going to HAVE to put Wisonsin in there. They arent dropping out of the Top10 of the BCS. _________________ I Offered My Honor

^I'd be cool with that, but if Arkansas beats Florida like I think they will in the SEC Championship game, does LSU get bumped for Florida? I'd say yes just cuz they have the larger fan following, but who knows... _________________

There is a rule that no more than 2 teams from any conference can go to a BCS Bowl and with OSU and Michigan already assured of going from the Big 10, Wisconsin is SOL. This rule has been around as long as the BCS has, but it never really came up until this year with the 2 extra bids floating around now that there's a separate Championship Game. _________________

Is that a rule? Ive never heard of it. Anyways, its hardly applicable because rarely do you have a situation like this.
But yeah, I guess youre right there. Id rather see one of those SEC teams anyway. _________________ I Offered My Honor

Yes, that is a rule, Guru.

Should Arkansas beat Florida, I'm sure they'd run Arkansas/ND out there in the Mitch Mustain Bowl or the Lou Holtz Bowl or something. If all this happens, I'm pretty sure LSU will be bumped out and would have to go to the Capital One Bowl or something because Florida beat LSU pretty convincingly earlier this season. Plus, the team that beat Florida also beat LSU, so it gets tough for them. _________________

Looks like I jumped the gun.
| Quote: |
| Detroit radio 1270 AM reported today that someone very high up in the Michigan athletic department stated that they've been in contact with the Rose Bowl and the Rose Bowl is seriously considering taking ND to play LSU, instead of Michigan against LSU. The reason is that this would be Michigan's 3rd trip to the Rose Bowl in 4 years and that they'd like to mix things up. They are concerned that Michigan fans wouldn't travel well since they've been to Pasadena a couple of times over the last few years. In addition, the Orange Bowl supposedly is really trying to get Michigan. According to the two 1270 AM radio hosts, this is someone that you can trust and they would not normally run with a "rumor," but this source is so high up that you can believe it. They didn't say who the source was, but it has to either be the AD or very close to the AD. They said nothing is set in stone and a lot of discussions are still on-going, but the Rose Bowl is seriously looking for someone new. |

^Hmm, that's really interesting considering how great Michigan is this year and the Rose Bowl's preference to stay as traditional as possible with Big 10 & Pac 10 teams going.
I understand their reasoning, but I think they'd be blowing it big time to not set up a Michigan-SEC team game. Plus they're worried about Michigan fans traveling here cuz they've been here so frequently in the recent past, but what about ND? They come out here every other year. By their logic, ND fans should be more "sick" of coming out to SoCal than anyone. _________________

No offense to ND, but if Rose Bowl officials want the best game possible, then they take Michigan. LSU - Michigan would be bette. _________________

Let me just say that I understand the reasoning and it would becoll to see Michigan in the Orange or something, but make no mistake, there are no Michigan fans "tired of making the trip to Pasedena". Every UofM fan ive ever known that has made the trip has absolutely loved it, and always talks about going back. Not to mention, the majority of Michigan fans who would travel arent going to be a huge block of the same people, but more likely Michigan fans who decide to make the trip for the 1st time IMO.
I think when its all said and done Michigan is going to be in the RoseBowl. I just prefer it not be against Boise or NotreDame. _________________ I Offered My Honor
