|
|
| The Lakers should trade for Pau Gasol. if we had Pau, Kobe and (hopefully) Lamar we would be a championship team. Even if we had to give up bynum i would do it. sure, he is young and has great potential but gasol is 27 years old. he is a superstar in this league. with kobe and pau we would be a championship contender for years (and years) to come... |

The only trade that makes sense for us and them is one that includes Bynum
Bynum
Mihm
McKie
Shammond
Smush
for Gasol.
Problem is, it makes Odom or Walton our PG. But the best thing about it is that all our main players (Kobe, Odom, Kwame, Luke, Gasol, Vlad, Evans, etc) are all in the 26-28 age range which is basically when everyone hits their prime
PG Odom
SG Kobe
SF Luke
PF Gasol
C Kwame
Only thing is, Kwame will only be used for D as all the low post scoring will be coming from Gasol, so then will Kwame pout and not play good D? He's shown he's still imature (grabbing some guys cake to throw at Turiaff)
But still, that line up is pretty nice...and we'd still have Farmar, Turiaff, Evans, Vlad, Cook, and Sasha
Personall I'd rather do a Kwame+ for Gasol, however, by not including Bynum then Memphis's other offers (from the Bulls, etc) blow our Kwame-led deal out of the water _________________

If it's a groundless trade, then it should go in the groundless trade thread. Gasol is an interesting match for the Lakers team (he could play 4 with Lamar at 3), but I can't see it happening. _________________

Even if we had the pieces, we dont need another PF that plays no defense.
We need Earl Watson. Screw you Mitch for not bringing him in a few years back! _________________

I'd do that in a second, but Jerry West isn't stupid. _________________

It's not happening. You have no brains as a GM if you don't consider chemistry and fit. With AB's future in the low block, what do you need more? Lakers don't have that many players who can create shots. With Lamar he is a better playmaker, defender, and faciliator. With Lamar he has the ability to grab the rebound and turn it into a fastbreak.
If you trade Lamar for Pau, you are not sure how Pau would fit with this team. Lakers aren't going to do this with their current record and with the way Lamar was playing at the beginning of the year.
Stats comparison:
Lamar Odom:
17.5 PPG
8.7 RPG
4.9 APG
.354 3pt %
.474 FG %
.768 FT %
0.8 BPG
0.7 SPG
TO 3.67
Pau Gasol:
19.3 PPG
7.0 RPG
2.5 APG
.333 3pt %
.576 FG %
.771 FT %
1.6 BPG
0.4 SPG
TO 2.53 |

Yes he is...at least "one of the best players in the league". In my mind, "superstar" means something different. Gasol could be a superstar someday if on a winning team with more exposure. |

You'd have to consider Bynum for Gasol, even if you don't end up pulling the trigger. Gasol is perfect in the Tri, and the perfect compliment to Kwame. Can score inside and out very efficiently, and can also block shots.
The Lakers would win the championship this year with Pau Gasol, as long as we didn't trade Odom for him (and you'd have to consider that too, though I wouldn't do it myself because I love Lamar's game). |

1) I don't think West will pursue trading Pau to another Western Conference team. Interconference star trades are not done all that often.
2) Why would the Grizzlies want Bynum? They're getting Oden in under 6 months. _________________

I agree...even without Oden, I doubt Bynum would get it done for Pau. |
