Newsday: Eddy Curry's breakout season has gained him attention around the NBA, but it hasn't been enough to earn him a spot on the Eastern Conference All-Star team. The Knicks center will not be among the players who have been selected as reserves, a person with knowledge of the situation said.
Before last night's game against the Bobcats, Isiah Thomas said he felt Curry deserved to be an All-Star. "I think his play definitely has warranted it," Thomas said of Curry, who leads the Knicks with 19.5 ppg.
What likely hurt Curry was that Shaquille O'Neal, who has played in only six games because of knee surgery, was voted to the team by the fans. The other top center in the East, Dwight Howard, is averaging 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Orlando Magic.
Pistons coach Flip Saunders, who coached the East in last year's All-Star Game, on Curry: "The thing that hurts him a little bit is the thing that hurts a lot of players, what hurt Elton Brand. Sometimes you don't get as much consideration because your team hasn't had the success. On the All-Star team, there's 12 guys that make it and there's always 17 that deserve it. He's one of those guys that deserve it." |
The reserves will be announced during tonight's TNT broadcast. _________________

sorry, I donīt think his play "warranted" it.
Just scoring 20 ppg doesnīt make you an all-star.
An all-star game is where superstars meet eachother and Curry is not one.
He has a great season, he has a career year (so far) but still he is IMO not on the same level as other Cs...
Does Shaq deserve it? hell no but he has a repuation and no matter how good/bad he plays, he will get his votes because fans all over the world want to see him. Who beside NYC is thrilled to see Curry? I doubt more than 50,000. All-Star game is a "gift" to the fans where they see the most popualr players, not always the best. Its not always good but well, thats the way it is. _________________

And that's why some of it is a joke. But Im not gonna get too mad, it's just for a reserve. But still, the fact that a guy like Shaq can make it by doing uhhhh nothing because he couldn't physically play and Curry can't even get a reserve, thats horse crap. I honestly don't even think if Curry is fully all-star material. His offensive game is but not really on the D. _________________

It's about popularity and who the fans want to see. I want to see Shaq play much more than Curry and I don't even like Shaq. |
