Bingo. Reasonable good trade.

I'd actually go for Mike James this off-season and offer Cook+2nd.

They really wanted him gone so let's see if it does the deal.

The Lakers really don't have huge needs that people keep claiming they do.

My bad they wouldn't. According to hoopshype George Karl wants him back next year.

Coach George Karl is hopeful the Nuggets will re-sign point Steve Blake when he becomes a free agent in the summer. "I don't think there's any question we're very interested in putting him on our team next year," Karl said. "He's been impressive, a lot better than I thought." Blake has started 27 of 36 games since being acquired Jan. 11. He's making $1.08 million but is in line to get a $250,000 bonus for averaging 26 minutes or more. "All I know is right now, I really like it here," Blake said. "Hopefully, they like me enough to do what it takes to bring me back." Rocky Mountain News

Kevin Garnett and Mike James for Lamar Odom, Kwame Brown, Brian Cook, Vladimir Radmanovic, and a 2008 unprotected first round draft pick.

PG- James/Farmar/draft or free agent
Sg- Kobe/Evans/Sasha/
SF- Luke/Draft pick
PF-KG/Turiaf/draft pick
C-Bynum/Mihm/Free agent

With this move it frees up quite a few roster spots to maybe bring in some young talent/free agents plus we have 3 picks in the draft

If we were to draft perhaps a nick Young/Thaddeus Young/Mcroberts or jason smith in the first round and then a combo of any of these guys with our 2nd rounders Byars/Gasol/Stuckey/Sean Williams

kwame and cook for ODEN. the man-child.
drop Smush, the lazy.
and draft Collison from UCLA.

i don't know if that's possible, but it sure would be nice.

Well right now the Lakers are stuck between two different paths.

A. Building a championship team for now

B. Building a young team for the future

Just for poops and giggles, this would be my approach to option B.

Lakers Give: Kobe Bryant, 2007 1st
Lakers Get: Andre Iguodala, Josh Smith, 2007 1st

Hawks Give: Josh Smith
Hawks Get: Samuel Dalembert, 2007 1st (via Lakers)

76ers Give: Andre Iguodala, Samuel Dalembert, 2007 first
76ers Get: Kobe Bryant

then trade

Lakers Give: Lamar Odom, Vladamir Radmanovic, Smush Parker or Farmar, 2nd round pick 2008
Lakers Get: Jason Kidd, 2007 1st

Smush/Farmar
Iguodala/Evans/Sasha
JSmoove/Luke
Okafor/Turiaf/Cook
Bynum/Kwame/Mihm

we have the Sixers, first round pick. I'd say depending on what pick it is (probably somewhere in the 6-10 range), we look at Corey Brewer, or Mike Conley Jr.

we have the Nets first round pick, we look at Mike Conley Jr, Rudy Fernandez, or Derrick Byars

JKidd/Conley Jr/Farmar
Iguodala/Evans/Sasha
JSmoove/Luke/Brewer
Okafor/Turiaf/Cook
Bynum/Kwame/Mihm

Now that would be a heck of a lineup for the future. However I would rather send Kobe to a contender.

Ohh I had a Lamar for Okafor swap, and then changed it. and forgot to change it in the roster.

That is a sweet line-up but the only problem is Smush. We all know Smush is out of here after the season and why would you trade Bynum, Cook, Vlad Rad for KG when you can get KG via free agency (hoping he opts out).

KG can only opt out after next season. I guess if we could do that trade for someone like Jermaine O'Neal instead. Then if KG wanted to come here after next season when he can opt out, and sign for extremely cheap. What a dream...

I guess I'd consider it. If we could keep our first round pick, and give them VladRad instead, i'd be even more inclined to do it.

The only people I'd trade Kobe for would be a package involving either Dwight Howard, LeBron James, Chris Bosh. That's all. No way in hell we give him up for AI and Josh Smith.

OT...

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like that Snickers commercial at the bottom is kinda gay? I'm not a homophobe but I do get this akward feeling when I watch it. Like watching [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.] Eye for the Straight Guy (which I still haven't done). Just doesn't feel normal...

Well I would consider trading him for AI2/JSmoove for a couple simple reasons.

1. They both play defense. Smith is a DPOY candidate, and AI is a great man-to-man defender and plays the passing lanes well

2. They are young. Inexperience comes with that, but I'd be willing to cope.

3. AI2 is putting up roughtly 19/6/7 since the AI departure. He is ready to take over a team.

I'd still have to think about it, I love Kobe and love watching Kobe. But these are my two favorite young guys in the league. Trading Lamar for a defensive big. And having a starting lineup of Farmar/Iggy/JSmoove/Okafor (as in my proposed trade)/Bynum in a couple years would be championship material.

Bucks Trade: Bobby Simmons, Brian Skinner, 1st rd pick
Lakers Trade: Lamar Odom, Smush Parker, Brian Cook, 1st rd pick

Lakers sign Charlie Bell with MLE.

Lakers take Al Horford with 1st rd pick.
Lakers take Daequan Cook with 2nd rd pick.
Lakers take Glen Davis with 2nd rd pick.

Bucks take Tiago Splitter with 1st rd pick.
Bucks take Ali Traore with 2nd rd pick.

LAKERS LINEUP:
PG - Farmar/Bell/Vujaic
SG - Bryant/Evans/Cook
SF - Walton/Simmons/Radmanovic
PF - Turiaf/Horford/Davis
C - Bynum/Brown/Skinner

BUCKS STARTING LINEUP:
PG - Williams
SG - Redd
SF - Odom
PF - Villanueva
C - Bogut

Now the Lakers are a defensive GURU. Simmons, Horford, Turiaf, Davis, Brown, Skinner, Evans, Bell, Bryant...WOW!!! You may ask why I went with that starting lineup. This is the lineup that knows the system best, and ultimately will win more games. Unfortunately, the Lakers still lack a true second option, but most championship have good role players, not just 2 stars. And who knows? Maybe Bynum can live up to the expectations and be a 18-20 ppg scorer. Now I don't think this is a team that wins it all in 08, but will DEFINITELY be a contendor in 09.

We got the 19th Pick, huh?

Good, now here's what we do.

We call up Larry Bird/Donnie Walsh and say, hey, Jermaine O'Neal wants out, and we'll take him off your hands. There may be other teams with better offers, but if they are trying to clear cap space and rebuild, here's what we offer.

J O'Neal + Orien Greene (filler) to the Lakers
K Brown + VladRad + Mo (or Sasha) + Farmar + #19 (if necessary)

Why for the Pacers? They get a defensive minded big man to replace JO. Obviously he's not as good, but he's half the price and his contract is up. Kwame, Mo/Sasha, and Farmar all have expiring contracts (if the Pacers desire) following next season. Vlad Rad is included for salary purposes and they get a good 1st round pick

Why for the Lakers? Ummm...cuz they want to win now. If the Lakers were to pull off this trade, they could also do the following (theoretically).

1) Resign Luke for fair market value (3.5-4.5 mil?)
2) Use the MLE on a starting point guard
3*) Sign or don't sign Smush as the third guard off the bench - if he's gonna play 10-15 minutes a game, I wouldn't mind, but I'm sure a lot of you would. Take him or leave him, either way.
4) Sign or don't sign Chris Mihm. I would sign him as he can probably be had for cheap. We have his bird rights, and few teams would take a long term chance given his injury.

So...that gives us a starting lineup of:

A) MLE PG/Kobe/Lamar/JO/Bynum
B) MLE PG/Kobe/Luke/Lamar/JO

Bench: Smush, Sasha/Mo, Cook, Turiaf, Walton/Bynum, Shammond, Mihm

Position-wise
PG: MLE PG, Smush, Shammond
SG: Kobe, Mo/Sasha
SF: Odom, Walton, Cook
PF: JO, Cook, Turiaf
C: Bynum, JO, Mihm, Turiaf (wow, nice group)

Maybe we need to add another swingman. But that's probably the best frontcourt in the league, with Kobe at SG and hopefully a solid upgrade at point guard.

*If you don't like Smush as third guard, fine, but don't blow the rest of the idea up over that. Got it? Nobody bother me about the Smush thing! I'm sensitive, okay?!?!?

I wonder and I don't know how the positioning would work but heres a crazy trade scenario you trade kwame farmar 1st rounder and vlad for JO then could you turn around give lamar and bynum for KG you could have JO playing center KG at Power forward Luke at SF and Kobe at SG and in the JO trade you could get Tinsley or in the Twolves trade you can get one of those pg they signed to horrendous contracts

This is our current team right now.

Farmar/Smush/Shammond/McKie
Kobe/Evans/Sasha
Luke Walton/Vladamir
Odom/Turiaf/Cook
Kwame/Bynum/Mihm

Heres some propositions I would look into

-Cook/2007 2nd for Travis Outlaw (might need more, I don't know how much Blazers value Outlaw)

-S&T Mihm/Evans to the Rockets for Shane Battier/2007 2nd. IIRC, in a S&T, the player can only go out solo. So they'd have to trade Mihm for Battier, and Evans for a 2nd to get the deal done. Evans would replace Battier, and Mihm would give Yao an adequate backup

-Vladamir/2008 2nd for Zaza Pachulia (again, I don't know how much the Hawks value Zaza)

-Sign Charlie Bell with MLE this offseason

-Draft Thaddeus Young, Derrick Byars or Aaron Afflalo. 2nd round- Avis Wyatt

-Trade Luke Walton for a veteran PF/C like Juwan Howard or Antonio McDyess, Alonzo Mourning etc.

new lineup

Charlie Bell/Jordan Farmar
Kobe Bryant/draft pick/Sasha Vujacic
Shane Battier/Travis Outlaw
Lamar Odom/Zaza Pachulia/Ronny Turiaf/Wyatt
Kwame Brown/Andrew Bynum/Luke Walton trade

I posted this somewhere else on CL but I'll post it here too.

If I were Mitch, I'd try to send over Radmanovic, Kwame, Bynum, and a future first round pick for JO.

Then we convince Luke to resign for cheap and we spilt the MLE between Jamal Magloire and Charlie Bell.

Bell/Farmar/Vujacic
Bryant/Evans
Odom/Walton
O'neal/Cook
Magloire/Turiaf
