PostPosted: Wed Sep 19, 2007 11:59 am    Post subject: 2007-2008 OFFICIAL FF ADVICE THREAD Reply with quote

I think to save space one thread should be created for advice. I'm not on the CL ff leagues but have been burned to start the year, with an 0-2 start and the fewest points in the league...

Need major advice here, and maybe though others could chime in, and ask questions. What do you think mods?

Anyways onto my questions. I need to get into the win column. It's a 3 WR league, and I could use help on which 3rd WR to start... (i'm already starting TJ & Santana Moss)

Jason Avant vs. DET. He's actually their #1 WR this season, they are at home and due for a win.

Shaun McDonald at PHI. Detroit loves to air it out, and despite being the 4th WR on the team, he actually leads the team in receptions and yardage. I expect Detroit to throw a ton in this game, but its tough b/c he is the 4th option.

Jacoby Jones vs. IND. Andre Johnson is out. He's the rookie 3rd round pick that will take his spot. Shaub will probably look for his TE but if Indy gets out by a lot, they maybe passing a lot. But an unproven rookie? He's got only 2 catches for 33 yards this season.

Help?

I'd go out on a limb and start Jacoby. Schaub has been pretty good so far and Jacoby is the starter. On top of that, he's a speedster and can make plays happen. He didn't have any catches last week because he wasn't targeted much. He was targeted 3 times in week 1 (had 2 catches) and once last week. Since he's the starter this week, expect him to get 6-8 targets.

EDIT just noticed you also have Avant and he's going against DET. I'd go with him.

Well the decision depends on your league's scoring system.

If Standard: I'd go with Avant. He's the only WR worth a damn right now on PHI. While Reggie Brown has more talent, he hasn't done squat. McNabb will throw 2 TD's....one to Westbrook....the other, who knows. I'd go with the guy who has caught the only TD so far for the eagles. Avant.

if PPR: I'd give the nod to McDonald. DET will air it out for sure. Probably 35 or more times with 25+ completions. Kitna has been spreadin' it out. Thusly, McDonald is the "safer" pick here if you're in a PPR league. 5 rec for 70 is highly likely. While McDonald's chances of catching a TD is slightly less that Avant, he will catch more passes.

If Det uses the film of the WAS v. PHI game, they will try to keep the WR in front and give McNabb the short 5-10 yard passes. Unfortunately the bulk of those recepts will go to Westbrook.

Summary: Avant has the higher upside with regards to getting max pts. However, he could flop. Higher risk, higher reward.

McDonald's upside for a high scoring game isn't that high. But he will get touches, a decent amount of them. Less risk, less reward.

Thanks guys... I was leaning towards Avant also...

I have westbrook as my back, so here's to hoping Philly finally gets its offense rolling.

Question: Who should I start at RB this week -- Laurence Maroney or gamble a bit with Jamal Lewis, who just came off that huge game against the Bengals with 216 yards.

Lewis ... Maroney is sharing carries at this point. Wait until he's the lone back in the system. I'd definitely go with Lewis.

Not against that surprisingly good Indy run D. I'd rather go with Lewis at this point.

Hey I have SJax, Carson Palmer and a grip of chumps are WR. I am desperate, Carson had a huge game for me last week and I still lost. I am now 0-2 and am looking at 0-3 this week.

Propulsion, what can I do. I think I should trade SJax now for TO and Cotchery.

Not a good proposition given that Schaub's favorite target aint playing this week. I wouldn't bet on HOU's O performing well without it's best playmaker to soften up the D against the run.

Obviously Jamal won't match his totals, but NE is a 16 1/2 pt favorite at home vs. Buffalo who got blown out in Pitt.

I haven't looked up the Raider run defense, but I'd probably go w/ Jamal on this one.

A lot of ff prognosticators are placing Morris as a sleeper b/c he's sharing carries and scored a TD last week.

Yeah, I'm hoping Jamal returns to old form after that great performance last week. Especially since I snagged him off waivers. man1

Don't worry. SJAX will pick it up sure enough and I picked up a fantasy stud in Lamont Jordan. Receiving wise, was able to pick up Brandon Marshall (starter for Denver), Marc Clayton will start this week (finally), and Jacoby Jones replaces Andre Johnson.

Here comes an 11 game winning streak **gets down on two knees and starts praying**

What do you guys think: Should I start a talented Carolina D that struggled against Houston but is playing the hapless Falcons in ATL or should I start the superior Chargers D on the road against Green Bay?

Start Carolina imo. Chargers got humiliated last week by New England. Brett Favre also had a good game last week. Meanwhile, the Panthers are playing Joey Harrington aka Mr. Interception.

What defense should I start this week? New England or Minnesota? NE's playing Buffalo while Minnesota's playing KC Minny's D has been on fire, granted they have not played the greatest offenses.

Although Minny's defense has been good, its been against Detroit & Atlanta...

KC is due for a win after two straight on the road. And KC is the toughest stadium for a road team to get a win.

It's their home opener and I expect them to play very well. I'm actually taking KC's defense this week.

Wanted to get a jump on next week because my defense is claimed off waivers on a week to week matchup....

Dallas at home vs. St. Louis without Stephen Jackson. Dallas's pass defense isn't good, and they are due for a let down, but their DB's are ballhawks a bit, especially since Bulger threw three picks against TB... It looks good, but more like a high risk high reward.

or

Green Bay at Minnesota. Minnesota's offense isn't all that great, but they are at home. Green Bay's defense has been pretty solid. I don't expect a huge amount of points, but its lower risk, lower reward....

Opinions?

I'd go with Green Bay. STL is going to play motivated next week and Dallas is just coming off a huge win in CHI - they're gonna be overconfident. I'd definitely go with GB although I don't really see both defenses doing that great this week.

I have both Tony Romo and Carson Palmer on my roster. I probably should trade one of them and add help to other positions, right?

a) Who should I trade (if I should)?
b) What's a fair deal for one of these guys? I could use a solid WR to be paired with TJ Houzhmansadeh ... not sure if I need a RB since I have Shaun Alexander, Laurence Maroney, Ahman Green and Jamal Lewis

Palmer is more proven, Romo is doing quite well, but he had flashes like this last year. Plus Palmer has more weapons to work with.

I would look at the teams remaining schedule, and who has an easier make of it.

Fair deal? It depends who's available. Your RB's while plentiful don't look all that solid.

With the BYE week claming one of my WR's, and two of my RB's... I really need help in every area to pick up points. Definitely a winnable matchup.

My kicker is Shayne Graham (cincy) vs. NE on monday night.

Should I switch to get either...

Kaeding vs. KC (is SD finally due?)
Nedney vs. Sea (niner offense is horrible)
Stover at Cleveland (might be the best pick)
Gostkowski at Cincy (i figure NE will score TD's instead of FG's...)

The waiver wire WR's available include:

Mason of Baltimore who gets a lot of looks
Bowe of KC who is starting to emerge as the #2 WR
Roddy White of Atl who has 237 yards receiving and 1 TD

Re: Kickers - you are correct. Stover is the best pick to get FG's. Bal still has issues in the red zone. Gostkowski might be a good choice too, i sense a high scoring affair.

WR

If PPR league - Mason is the safest choice. McNair looks for him. He will get his catches.

Standard - Bowe has more upside. I do believe he has caught 2 TDs so far. Betting on Joey is too risky with regards to Roddy.

Is Brian Leonard available? If so, i'd pick him and start him.

Ok, which defense should I start tomorrow?

New England - against Cincinnati
or
Minnesota - against Green Bay

Marshawn Lynch vs NYJ or Frank Gore against SEA?

I'm leaning towards Lynch.

Personally I think he will play. Do you think Plaxico Burress will play tonight?
