| Arod is gone and in my opinion the perfect replacement would be to try to trade for Miguel Cabrera. You can stick him right in Arods spot and his numbers would probably improve around more talented batters. Its been rumored the Marlins want to dump him, not to mention the soon to be manager Joe Girardi managed Cabrera for a year in Florida. |

It's just a little amusing theory we have as Yankees fans. During Donnie's playing years, he never got to the WS. The year he retired, Yankees won their first WS in 18 years. 2004, he joins as hitting coach and of course we know what happened in '04.
Still, the guy's beloved among Yankee fans. It just seems like bad luck strikes the team when Donnie's around.

I just wanna say im not a big Yankee fan, but i have alot of respect for you guys, when this new poster decided to call Yankee fans retarded on LD earlier today, i took it upon myself to shut him up. I respect you guys because you guys are all about winning, and no BS.

Cabrera's salary will jump from $7.4MM past $11MM this year through arbitration. A year from now he could be looking at $15-17MM.
Spencer sees a partial match in center fielder Melky Cabrera; the Marlins have had instability at that position since Juan Pierre was dealt. Add Phil Hughes to the package and I think this could get done. The Yankees seem to favor Joba Chamberlain over Hughes (I don't have any proof for that) and Chien-Ming Wang will be getting pricey. Ian Kennedy is solid but the Marlins are going to want a front-rotation guy like Hughes.
One consideration is that if Cabrera can't stay at third base, they might have to move him to first and pass on Mark Teixeira next winter. But as I said earlier, maybe the Yanks will take a break from Boras clients anyway. Hank Steinbrenner seems primed to make all sorts of petty/irrational decisions. That should be fun to watch. |

This isn't Yankee related THAT much, but there were talking about Mariano Rivera on ESPN and how he has a deal on the table. This isn't about that either, I just wanted to say LOL @ his hair without a hat, I've never seen him without a hat, his hairline is hilaious and his forhead is gigantic. Some people belong in a baseball cap.

No way this is happening, if the Yanks want Cain. If the Jays can't get Lincecum for Rios straight up, Matsui for Cain is even more impossible. Maybe if Matsui was still in his 20's, it would've been possible. But he's old now...then again, it's the Giants, so...

Pettitte had contemplated retirement for a period after the Yankees' playoff elimination, but sent word to the club on Sunday through his agent, Randy Hendricks, that he had decided to return for the 2008 season.
Pettitte had held a $16 million player option for next year but declined it, saying he needed more time to contemplate his future. The Yankees allowed Pettitte that luxury, leaving the same financial terms on the table in the event he did return, while also recruiting him with a series of telephone calls from manager Joe Girardi and a variety of teammates.
Pettitte was 15-9 with a 4.05 ERA in 34 starts for New York this season, serving as a main veteran presence on a roster that was forced to rely on the contributions of rookies early. Having put off similar thoughts of retirement, Pettitte ranked ninth in the American League with 215 1/3 innings pitched and turned in the team's most dominant performance in October, pitching 6 1/3 strong innings against the Cleveland Indians in Game 2 of the AL Division Series.
Pettitte was one of four players offered salary arbitration by the Yankees, though two of them were procedural moves -- both closer Mariano Rivera and third baseman Alex Rodriguez have agreed to new contracts, but because those deals are not final, the Yankees offered arbitration as a formality.
Reliever Luis Vizcaino also declined salary arbitration from the Yankees and appears to be heading toward his sixth Major League uniform, ending his stay in New York after one year.
Vizcaino, 33, made a career-high 77 appearances for the Yankees after being obtained from the D-backs in January's Randy Johnson trade, finishing with a 4.30 ERA and tying the Major League lead with eight victories as a reliever against two losses.
The Yankees had spoken optimistically about hoping to retain Vizcaino despite a swelled financial market for free agent relievers, but Vizcaino's agent, Bean Stringfellow, said Wednesday that would not be likely.
Stringfellow told the New York Post that negotiations with the Yankees were not progressing as his client would have hoped and was quoted by the newspaper as saying, "We are proceeding like the Yankees aren't involved." Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has identified upgrading the bullpen as one of his top priorities as the club absorbs options that may develop stemming from this week's Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tenn.
In order to make room for Pettitte on the Yankees' 40-man roster, the club designated outfielder Bronson Sardinha for assignment. The 24-year-old made his Major League debut with New York in September, batting .333 (3-for-9) with six runs scored and two RBIs in 10 games. He batted .250 with 15 home runs and 74 RBIs in 124 games with Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. |

^Yanks still need help...
Matsui to Giants...hmm not really fond of that idea. Giambi is always hurt anyways and we have had a pretty weak bench, canīt hurt to keep Matsui. On the other hand our pitching is awefull and we still need a couple of relief pitchers, otherwise there wonīt be many games for Rivera to close out...
I donīt expect anything for next season...these group hasnīt shown any desire to succeed and the youngsters are probably already given way too much responsibility...
a guy like Joba canīt already start 33 games and pitch 6 innings per game. That would be 198 innings...he had like 115 or so in his rookie season...Yanks need to bolster their bullpen and they need to make a run at Santana...goddamn if he goes to the Red Sox, Yanks will suck balls for the next 5 years or so...

After the season, we get rid of a lot of ugly contracts...
Jason Giambi's fat arse and his 21 mio. salary
Bobby Abreu and his ugly 16 mio. salary
Andy P. and his 16 mio. salary
Moose and his 11 mio. salary
Pavano and his FUGLY 11mio. salary
Farnsworthless and his 5 mio. salary
in 2009 then Damon and Matsui follow with 13 mio. each...
thats an awefull lot of salary in 2008 for very little production considering thats more salary than a lot of MLB clubs altogether...
now if we could find a way to get rid of Kei Igawa...not only does he sucks major donkey balls but he doesn't even have potential to improve or something...I'm still befuddled why the Yankees spent 50 mio. on this SCRUB,

Well, Spring Training has finally started. This should be a very promising season for the Yankees; lots of promising young talent striving to solidify their status, still have our great veterans and AROD locked up for the long run, and no more Clemens drama for us. I don't foresee a problem with Andy seeing as how he dealt with the situation the right way, IMO. Go YANKEES!
Oh yea, and does anyone know of any streaming links where I can watch Yankee games, kind of like those links people here provide for our Laker games? |

seriously Bumrusherer, they don't have it...
the winners are Posada, Jeter and Damon (to a degree)
the rest lacks the killer instinct...it starts and ends with may rod. I had high hopes we let him just go but he brings back the dark cloud of playoff disasters with himself.
also the pitching is very young and unproven. They have to show that they have the grit and consistency to be healthy and actually produce night in and night out.
