|
|
Alright, if you must (and also for Karacha):
I grew up in Long Beach, California and was a Magic fan of the post-showtime
era (this was when the Lakers lost Pat Riley but still made it to the finals)
and a huge fan of the Van-Exel and Eddie Jones era (where those guys worked
hard every game whether they won or they lost)
I think that Magic Johnson is the greatest point guard of all-time and actually
has a better understanding of team unification than that of Jordan (though I am
a Jordan fan)
I do like Jordan because he also understands the game well, he has great will
power (Unlike Kobe Bryant), and he can take off into "THE AIR".
My favorite player at the time, which was the 90's, besides Penny (Like Magic
somewhat at the time),Jordan (now that I am grown up and reflect on what
he's done, I have all of the respect for him now), and Pippen (not as good as
Jordan but very versatile to be proven a valuable player for any team) was:
Eddie Jones. he is a rotational player that plays in synch with the team, played
tenacious defense, and also knew how excite the crowd and make a
statement by taking off into the air (Actually had more leverage and hang time
than Kobe and near that of Jordan's at the time)
To continue on with my life story as a fan, I became Kobe fan as well because
he also played his heart out with Van Exel and Eddie Jones and Shaq.
I became a huge Kobe fan during the Lakers 2000-2002 reign as he was
just dominating the game both offensively and defensively. But then the rape
charges, the comparisons with Jordan, and drama with Shaq truly began and
my liking of Kobe started to decrease. The Lakers did get powered up in 2004
and made a statement by returning to the NBA Finals. Heck I actually thought
the Lakers would sweep the Pistons because of how the Lakers had Shaq,
Kobe, Malone (Hall of famer), and Payton (who was still in star quality and
contender mentality). Watching games 1 and 2 of the Finals put my butt on the
seat while "crapped in my pants".
But after game 2, I then saw Kobe for who he really is. He became straight up
selfish. He refused to pass the ball to Payton and Shaq and the rest of the
team while he repeatedly had a 9-32 type field goal percentage. I knew that
this would truly become the end of an era.
With Kobe not one of my favorite players any more at the time, I was also
referencing a favorite player of mine in the past and what he was up to.
What was Eddie Jones doing? Heck, he was playing with the Heat with Lamar
Odom and with some rookie I never heard of. But this rookie was playing with
absolute explosion and understanding about the game. After watching the
Heat vs Hornets series, I now knew that I had new favorite player and probably
my most favorite player of all time.
Back to Kobe, I kind of had hope for what the Lakers can do without Shaq.
I realized that the Lakers were in trouble because Kobe is just plain selfish,
with or without Shaq. The Lakers almost gave 2-time NBA champion Rudy T. a
heart attack and thuscausing him to resign from the team (whom I
blame Kobe for because he did not play a team game while he did have
Odom and Butler (who is okay)).
On the other hand, Shaq, Jones, and the rookie were having a heck of a year
that eventually had Alonzo Mourning returning to the Heat from retirement. They
were on such a roll that the Heat swept through the first and second rounds,
and to also have the defending champs on the ropes with a 3-2 series lead.
And then came their heart-breaking loss at home.
For 2006, I will admit that I really liked Kobe because he really played hard. I
thought that he was actually trying to make a statement that he is talented
and that he is a good guy (let the past be the past). He had an 81 point game
(Wow. Awesome!!!) and outscored a team in 3 quarters (Hahaha).
He actually gave the Lakers something to believe in and had a toe-to-toe fight
Phoenix and helped the Lakers get a 3-1 series lead.
The only thing that I did not like about Kobe this year was how he did not play
full 4th quarter in game 7. I actually thought that he quit on the team.
Nevertheless, I thought that Kobe would not act like this again because of
everything else he's done in 2006 (Boy was I wrong).
On the other hand, Shaq and the once rookie, made history by giving Miami its
first championship with other former stars. Also, it was not Shaq who was the
MVP, it was Wade.
The 2007 season seemed exciting for the Lakers because there was a lot to
look forward to. The Lakers got (Radman, Evans, and Farmar with a healthy
Turiaf). This team might actually be strong. This team strolled through the
preseason and had great chemistry during the 1st 2 games of the season
(This is with Odom gelling and helping lead this new and improved team, and
after he just lost his son).
With Kobe returning from offseason surgery for the 3rd game, I was thinking
that this would truly be the year. Kobe helped beat Seatle in his return while
gelling with team.
Then suddenly, Kobe turned back to selfish Kobe and I saw this potential
just go down the drain (I made excuses about how Kobe was still recovering
the surgery for he hadn't practiced and stuff but after 3 or 4 months of garbage
Kobe, no more excuses)
Occasionally, he would play well, but time after time, I would notice how he not
run the rotation or play defense, thus causing the team to be vulnerable.
I would also notice how he would be a facilitator only when he wanted to
facilitate rather than when the team would probably like him to do so, and how
he would be score when he would only want to score.
Ultimately, this potentially talented team that I think Kobe screwed caused to
to give Phil Jackson his 1st 6 game losing streak, and then immediately his
1st 7 game losing streak. Sure, there were injuries, but the team was still
solid enough to win games more than they lost
I think that Kobe was just so out of it for his debut season as #24, and it
eventually showed when played so selfishly in game 1 against the rematch
with Phoenix. He did have a spark in game 3, but then when came crunch time
with game 4 and game 5, he was completely outclassed by Steve Nash.
Going back to the Heat now, I think that Wade could have won the
championship again with the return of Shaq and Pat Riley. But then he broke
his arm and it was sad for me to see.
Then the blame game happened and Kobe's arrogance and frustration got the
worst of him while he blamed his own teammates. He blamed Bynum while
every fan and everyone in the league was giving Bynum lots of credit for what
he has done (I can go on with this but the summer dilemma at this).
Now that this new season has started with the return of Derek Fisher, a
3-time champion point guard that I have always liked, it is great. However,
I am seeing Kobe do his crap from last season again to this season and even
worse. I think that this problem needs to be solved and you guys have read my
previous threads.
And so I believe I am a Laker fan.
I also was a Kobe fan from 1996-2003, 2006, and partially 2004.
But I know what he's about and so I don't really like him as a player or a
person anymore. He needs to go.
I am still a Shaq fan, a Riley fan (A Laker coach of Showtime), and TRULY
Wade fan because he undertands how to play the game, is relentless in
his determination, and is just so smooth and elegant in every aspect of the
game.
I also like Jordan because I grew up watching and I know what he is about. Besides, who doesn’t?
And so this the reason why my username is FlashJordan (Would have included Magic but I did not grow
up watching him although I know what he truly is about NOW!)
So there you guys have it.
