Seattle fans say that ownership would love this kind of deal because it allows them to move up next year when they combine it with the Phoenix picks. Of course, that doesn't mean they are exactly right, but I believe this topic merits discussion.
Kwame Brown + $$ (to make up the difference in Kwame and Kurt's salary) + our 1st round pick for Kurt Thomas and Seattle's second pick (about 10-15 picks less than what we'd pick otherwise)
Would you do it? _________________

That's Kwame for Kurt staright up as their salaries match.
But why would Seattle do it?
Kurt is an expiring contract as well.
Unless they really want Kwame. _________________ Jerry West:

well since basically theyre both expring and all we'd be losing is the 1st rounder (i dont see us losing in the 1st round of the playoffs this year) then it would be a pretty high pick, and we'd get their 2nd pick, HELL YEAH ID DO IT!!!
kwame's d is a tad better on defense, but kurt can shoot, catch, block shots, and has a pretty high bball iq _________________

The motivation for Seattle is as follows:
Seattle moves up 10-15 picks in the draft. It allows them to package the Phoenix pick with this LAL pick to move up in the draft because they already have 5 1st rounders in the next 3 years. This way, they can consolidate talent.
Think of it this way, 3 first rounders for an 8 million dollar trade exception and one of their 8 2nd rounders(exaggeration on their second rounders but they have WAYYY too many). _________________

The Solution(IMHO):
Sasha Vujacic, Kwame Brown, LAL 1st Round Pick, Cash Considerations
for
Kurt Thomas, Damien Wilkins, Seattle's 2nd Round Pick
Sonics get out of Wilkins contract, and he is considered a filler to them. KT is going to be gone at the end of the season. They move up 5-15 slots in the draft, AND it gives them the option of packing our pick and the Phoenix pick to move up in the draft for a better prospect.
For us, this allows us to VASTLY improve the back-up PF situation, improve our back-up center position, and finally get a defensive athlete at SG who is a good passer for his position(has played point in his career), and he can hit the three. He's played in a fast break system his entire career, and can easily do the same for the second unit. He's not afraid to shoot and has been doing it too much lately on the Sonics resulting in a benching. With his role more clearly established here, like it was when Allen/Lewis were in Seattle, he will go back to being a slasher who plays excellent defensive. Except now, he's added a 3 point shot to his arsenal and is shooting 41.4% on his jumpers so far this year with 36% from 3(he shot 41% from 3 last year).
PG: Derek Fisher, Jordan Farmar, Javaris Crittenton
SG: Kobe Bryant, Damien Wilkins, Javaris Crittenton
SF: Luke Walton, Trevor Ariza, Lamar Odom
PF: Lamar Odom, Kurt Thomas, Vladimir Radmanovic
C: Andrew Bynum, Kurt Thomas, Ronny Turiaf
It also allows us to go ultra big and put out one of the best rebounding line-ups, maybe, of the decade:
PG: Derek Fisher
SG: Kobe Bryant
SF: Lamar Odom
PF: Kurt Thomas
C: Andrew Bynum
This line-up is HUGE, athletic, superb on the boards, and a great defensive squad.
We can also bring some capable scorers and veteran leadership to the second unit:
PG: Jordan Farmar
SG: Damien Wilkins
SF: Trevor Ariza
PF: Vladimir Radmanovic
C: Kurt Thomas
There are three shooters in this line-up, a capable post scorer in Kurt Thomas, and GREAT perimeter defensive along with an interior defensive presence.
Overall, I believe it gives Phil so much more versatility and defense. We can FINALLY play two defense-first, shot altering bigs at the same time with Kurt/Bynum. |

The difference between Kwame Brown and Kurt Thomas is less than 10-15 players in the draft?
Remember, Seattle's 2nd rounder is going to be in the top 5. _________________
