We all know Seattle is trying to shed salary.. With the rumored deal of Wally-Watson for Ricky Davis & other expirings.. If that doesn't work out, Mitch needs to get on the phone & offer them an alternative.
Kwame & Vlade for Wally & Collison
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=981~1016~1978~831&teams=25~25~13~13&te=&cash=
WHY SEATTLE DOES IT:
C.R.E.A.M
With their young core so far from competing, they're all about financial flexibility right now.. Wally is the main contract they need to dump.. & since he plays the same positions as their 2 future stars, he's really just stunting their growth.. Vlade gives them some of the shooting they lose with Wally.. He's also the perfect 4 for them in an uptempo offense that would really let Green & Durant shine.
Kwame is a downgrade from Collison, but that 9 mil expiring is huge for them.
With Collison being BYC, only half of his salary counts in the trade.. Which means they're able to save over 3 mil this year.. & they save over 13 mil next year when Kwame expires. Nick & Vlade's contracts are nearly identical so they aren't losing anything financially there.
WHY WE DO IT
First off, Collison doesn't really have the size to play the 5 but he makes up for that with his aggression. He gets most of his minutes @ the 5 for the Sonics & as we saw last time we played them, he holds his own. He's averaging almost a double double this year in just over 27 minutes, no doubt he would improve on that being our main C until Bynum gets back. He's a young guy(27) who can be a great roleplayer for our team for years to come.
I know alot of you dislike Wally because he doesn't play any D.. But that's what Ariza's here for. Wally would take Luke's place during the times that Phil wants offense from the SF.. He's a MUCH better scorer than Luke, we're talking about a JUMPSHOOTER that shoots 49% over his career aswell as over 40% from 3. He would also most likely take up Sasha's minutes backing up Kobe. True, we could use his scoring for these 8 weeks while Andrew is out.. but I'm also thinking ahead @ the spacing nightmares he's going to help us cause once Drew is back.. Aswell as with the second unit.
Oh.. & for all the delusional 2010 plan believers .. Yes, Wally will be off the books by then.

They need financial flexibility in two years.
Wally expires right at that time. Vladimir doesn't.
Sonics easily decline.
And the "2010 plan" is a reality. All you have to do is look at when PJax's contract ends, and when a majority of the Laker's players contracts end. _________________ Help me name my Puppy! |

Perhaps a better trade would be Wally and Wilcox for Odom and Kwame. This way all the contracts expire at the right time, but they get immediate relief with Kwame's expiring.
Wally brings an outside shooting threat that Luke and Odom have failed to bring this year. With Bynum and Kobe on the floor he should be another outside threat. Wilcox, when healthy is a decent PF/C. He is better than Kwame.
Odom is a lot to give up, but he is also frustrating to watch. |

| And continuing with this trade, is it possible Kwame and fillers for Chris Wilcox? I think that he would be fit with Phil Jackson, like Horace Grant role some time ago at power-forward. He can get 10-12 points and 6-8 rebounds per night, and defense. |
