Confirmed on TNT.

He clinched it today with the win over the Knicks.

I just have to laugh at something like this. I mean I know it's the coach of the team with the best record, but to say that Doc is the best coach in the East if it's ever said is funny. His players are winning games for him, not the other way around, last year his team was the worst in the league and were taking games... so yeah.

But that's true of any coach. All coaches need good players to win a lot.

Who is the best coach in the east?

True, but I'm just saying, I'll laugh my butt off if Doc wins coach of the year. You have 3 stars on your team and you BETTER win. To me it's not him that turned the team around so if he earned that I'd have to shake my head and laugh because last year he was on the worst team in the league, so what did that make him, the worst coach? In the East, I don't know, I think Flip does a good job with the boys in Detroit, I think Stan Van Gundy has done a good job in Orlando, heck even Eddie Jordan has done a good job keeping the Wizards afloat when they coulda just called it a season when Gil went down. I just see more coaches geting more out of less, I think Phil Jackson for example has done a great job the last few years getting some pretty average Laker teams to the playoffs, he's gotten something out of players who might otherwise give nothing. I mean he got 2 full years out of Smush Parker. I also think Popovich is a better coach than Doc.

Flip hasn't done anything with Detroit. They were good before that. They actually are not as strong since he's taken over as evident by their playoff losses. He is a good example of a good team. All that's missing is the good coach, which they had when Brown was there.

Van Gundy, yes, he's a good coach. However, Orlando does not have the best record. This is not about Coach of the Year award. The rules are pretty simple for All Star coach. Best record for the first half of the season and that you did not coach last year. Pretty objective criteria.

Jordan has done a great job. This is why New Jersey started to struggle once he left for Washington. However, again his team does not have the best record. It could be closer if they didn't suffer the injuries, but better in the first half of the season than the last half.

Anyway, I'm not debating that Doc is the best coach in the NBA, but for All Star he deserves it, whether he has the players or talent. He's not the best, but he certainly is still at the 50th percentile or above with respect to coaches across the league.

I don't think Doc is a bad coach at all, I just have to laugh with all the respect he gets now when his players are doing all the work. Hell, Isiah Thomas could have gotten this Celtics team to the record they have now. I guess he deserves to coach the Eastern All-Star though, it's just the All-Star game, doesn't really matter.

Don't give Isiah too many props. He screwed up a good Indiana team, and made them into one that had chemistry problems and basically fell apart from there.

I'mt not giving Isiah props, that was a knock on him being a terrible coach. I'm not saying if he came in and ran the Celtics he could do a better job, I'm saying if he coached this team as it is now they'd still be winning, they have 3 of the best players in the league on one team. Side note, I've never been able to tell what your avatar was, at a quick glance it looked like a coconut and some design behind it, my mind couldn't figure it out. After looking at it closely for a few seconds for the first time I finaly saw what it was. mhihi
