^[sarcasm] But both hands weren't securely fastened to the rim, so it shouldn't count. [/sarcasm]

every shot is like that but if you think his second or first dunk is better im with you on that, but showmanship wise the Superman was the best

Correct. The key word is "down". Not up towards the basket like a normal layup.

what?

the point of the dunk IS to throw it down

it's better than greens' birthday cake dunk
hell, dwight could have gotten a bite if he did his own remix of it.

mhihi hehe securely fastened

maybe they should put a sensor or something , like the board lights up if the hand touches the rim , hehe

i guess the ones saying its not a dunk are just finding ways to hate .

lol at the sarcasm caption, we should have one like that which actually works, maybe it can change the color of the font or make it look funny

but if everyone felt that way then it wasn't a dunk but it seems a lot of people know it was and the dictionary definition i put up should end arguments

unless theres some rule we don't know about

why is that a stupid assumption? man3 most of the time you see a person dunk they touch the rim about 97% of the time

What actually amazes me is that he jumped from the same point MJ jumped for his FT dunk and Dwight couldn't get to the rim ( or could barely do it ).

Now that puts the perspective on how athletic MJ really was. Dwight is a beast, MJ was on another planet.

Dwight is a Big Man. Thats the difference. How often do you see Big Men in the game dunk like that?

so i tuned into the allstar events tonight, and honestly it was pretty lackluster. always has been. its like this party for basketball players that i cant be a part of so i have to watch it on tv.
makes me feel like im wasting my time watching this overly-marketed flashy cheesy show, as all the announcers try to play it up and advertise it to be more than it really is, i should be livin' it up in my own kinda party.
anyone catch my drift?
this stuff all seems too commercialized and polished, id rather be watching real competitive games where the players are leaving blood sweat and tears on the court. this is them just havin fun. the superman thing was somewhat entertaining, but you cant deny that its cheesy as hell.
NBA: where 'WTF' happens

by the way, this is my first post on these forums, i enjoy the constant activity and humor around here, and im obsessed with the lakers.

Dwight pretty much jumped straight up though, he was going for height. I think had he gone for distance like MJ he easily could have. He went UP and still almost made it, he was all about going as high as he could in the middle. MJ's amazes me in that he got to the rim easily, he almost had to reach BACK to put the ball in, he wasn't stretching and struggling to get there at all.

what? did you even watch the dunk?
if dwight's plan was to jump as far as he could he would easily make it

MJ took off of one foot
dwight took off of two (not even from the FT line)
don't be silly.

It was more of a showmanship and hyped dunk but it was awesome.

Dont think he was going for distance with this dunk. It was the whole jumping off of two legs without any real runoff like Superman does that he was going for i think. And he did this off of a pass from Nelson. Sick. He actually did it running of with the ball in hand and jumping off of one foot on his youtube practice video. Pretty sick when he added the Superman lift off effect by going off two feet tho.

If he was just going for distance i dont think that he would have put the tape where he did. Everyone knows of the freethrow takeoff dunk. So putting the tape down inside the line would be nothing special.

Exactly he took off of 2 feet. It wasn't just for distance.

Moon's FT alley oop was impressive yet nobody talks about it, they just overhyped Dwight

How was it impressive when he took off 1 foot INSIDE the free throw line?

Had he not taped the floor much further than the place he actually jumped, it would have been impressive.

However, he jumped WELL inside the paint, much closer to the ring than where the taped spot was.

If a dunk is valid wherein a player doesn't have to touch the ring, then all we could do is get the highest leaping player in the NBA.....let him jump from the three-point region........alas....a VALID three-point dunk. bow mhihi

Is Magic trying to say this was better than 1984, 1986, or 2000.

Kenny Smith was right.
The NBA or should I call NBE (National Basketball Entertainment)

Because it's not worth talking about.

It wasn't a FT line dunk.

In his practice video he was taking off before the FT line.

He set the tape before the FT line.

And he took off after the FT line. Any of the 4 contestants could have done that. Hell, a couple of the judges could have attempted that and got 7s.

It wasn't original and it was one of the biggest letdowns of the night.

Nah... I watched it closely... For an object, that is thrown in the air, to reach maximal distance it has to be thrown at 45 angle... which is about what Dwight did - he jumped as long as he could, given his angle.

The fact that he jumped of two legs does have an influence... may be you are right... still - he is 4-5 inches longer than MJ and has a longer rich - and he couldn't touch the rim... It is, of course, only my observation, but it seemed to me that he couldn't do the FT dunk... even if he could - that just shows you, again, how much of an athlete MJ was - he did it with so much ease...

maybe?
rofl
keep backpeddling.

it's called creativity
moon did it from the FT line and didn't get into the finals

enough with the MJ butt kissing. dwight jumped off with TWO feet (from the circle in front of the FT line) to catch a lob pass with ONE hand and threw the ball through the bucket. i don't think anyone except dwight can do that dunk right now. taking off with two feet from where dwight took off? hell no.

christ.

I guess Kareem's Skyhook has always been a dunk if your going to use that definition.

Kareem goes up at his highest point above the rim and throws it in.

Before last night I have never seen anyone consider the ball being thrown towards the rim a dunk. So what are the officials rules considering the ball being thrown at the rim a dunk? Technically you are always throwing the ball at the rim and also jumping most of the time while doing so. Does your body have to be moving towards the basket? Does a portion of your body have to be above rim level? I would really like clarification on this now because before last night I am pretty sure most of you would have considered a dunk meaning the player's hand atleast grazed the rim as he was putting the ball through.
