| Before last night I have never seen anyone consider the ball being thrown towards the rim a dunk. So what are the officials rules considering the ball being thrown at the rim a dunk? Technically you are always throwing the ball at the rim and also jumping most of the time while doing so. Does your body have to be moving towards the basket? Does a portion of your body have to be above rim level? I would really like clarification on this now because before last night I am pretty sure most of you would have considered a dunk meaning the player's hand atleast grazed the rim as he was putting the ball through. |
My cousin said once ur applying downward force on the ball into the rim from a close proximity. Unlike a layup or a shot attempt where the ball goes up then comes back down toward the rim on its own. I dunno tho that may just be his opinion, not sure if he has backing. I dont typically consider it a dunk unless they grab the rim.
I guess it makes a little sense because most dunks you see ppl grabbing on the rim, but I dont know of many that can get up high enuff to actually throw the ball down at the rim. Mainly cause to do that you would have to either just from real far and get up really high or if ur close then you kinda do like a lebron type tomahawk and take ur hand way back so that u can actually throw it down into the basket without hitting rim. _________________

The fact that he jumped of two legs does have an influence... may be you are right... still - he is 4-5 inches longer than MJ and has a longer rich - and he couldn't touch the rim... It is, of course, only my observation, but it seemed to me that he couldn't do the FT dunk... even if he could - that just shows you, again, how much of an athlete MJ was - he did it with so much ease... |
maybe?

keep backpeddling.
it's called creativity
moon did it from the FT line and didn't get into the finals
enough with the MJ butt kissing. dwight jumped off with TWO feet (from the circle in front of the FT line) to catch a lob pass with ONE hand and threw the ball through the bucket. i don't think anyone except dwight can do that dunk right now. taking off with two feet from where dwight took off? hell no.
christ. |
It is an observation. How about you cutting of Dwight butt kissing and being worked up about it? _________________ Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see and you'll be alright.

observation?
saying dwight couldn't do a FT line dunk when he hasn't even attempted one is hardly an "observation" |

Who knows? Maybe the real plan was really to touch the ring but since he saw that it was far.....he just threw the ball down hehehehe. Who would've seen the "error" since before the <dunk?> attempt, everyone was already flustered by his antic....geeeeez.
For me....it still ain't a dunk. He deserves the title BUT it was still not a valid dunk in my book. _________________ SOLID LAKERS FAN SINCE BIRTH...MABUHAY !!! |

| The Superman dunk was crazy as it happened, but after watching it on replay it lost some of its appeal to me, as Howard basically missed it but got lucky. A great dunk, but certainly not in the top 5 ever. He should have pulled it back and done it over. But he's a real showman and you gotta give him credit for that. |

agreed...
to be honest, that dunk didn't wow me...I like his sticker dunk still better. It was original tho...but it wasn't anything we haven't seen from Dwight in terms of jumping ability. _________________
