LA Times reporting Ariza's foot isn't healing as quickly as hoped and now he is still 8 weeks away from returning. They are reporting at least 3 weeks on Bynum's return.

LA Times wrote:
Center Andrew Bynum is at least three weeks from returning from a left knee injury and forward Trevor Ariza is still about eight weeks from returning from a broken bone in his right foot. Ariza's original timetable called for a return to health four weeks from now, but his foot was "healing more slowly than we hoped," a team official said Monday.

The story is at LA Times' website. Kobe's fingerprints are all over this one is title of story. Another very good story by Mike Bresnahan.

Well, 8 weeks would mean right before the playoffs, which is still good. Heck, we probably won't need him till the Finals anyway.

If his injury is very bad (Mihm status), the Lakers should probably not re-sign him. With that said, I think we should try to sign Hassell in place of Ariza.

That's unfortunate, because it would be really nice to have him back as an option, but our deepest position is the 3, so we should be able to get by. Lamar, Luke, Rad, and Kobe all play the 3, but considering that Lamar has to play the 4 another three weeks at least, Luke has been so-so as far as health, and Kobe is gutting it out with the pinkey, we might need to add another wing, maybe even Devean George if he becomes available (of course, I'd still love to snatch Quinton Hosley out of Turkey, but that move would probably cost Dr. Buss at least $1.5 million considering the buyout, so I know that's probably pie in the sky).

We should really be ok @ 3. Ariza is just a defensive bonus. A great guy, but we'll live without him... Bynum is super important though, and he is on schedule. My guess is that we'll see him at the end of May. Just being conservative here.

Ariza has a player option. It is not a team option. Given this injury no team is going to make him a good offer so he will almost certainly opt in.

Hassell is under contract to the Mavs this year and next. Or to the Nets if he gets traded. He is not a FA.

Ruben Patterson?

Dahntay Jones?

When Ariza just got injured somebody posted that this was a common injury in soccer. It normally took soccer players 12-18 weeks to recover.

Most people said Ariza would return sooner because Ariza's foot does not make contact with the ball in basketball.

Now it looks like it will take 12-18 weeks.

I was not aware of his player option. bang

As far as Hassell goes, I was under the assumption that Jersey would release him afterwards thus leading here.

Thats a bummer about Ariza. Hopefully he will be healthy enough for the playoffs. Good news on Big Bynum, cant wait to see this guy finishing the alley oops like he was before the injury.

Now since Ariza is out a few more weeks, does anyone see the Lakers signing anyone, as far as a defensive player that can fill Ariza's void until he comes back or someone that can step in if Ariza will not be ready to go? Ruben Patterson? Trenton Hassel if he is bought out?
