I nearly vomited today in the gym, which was fun. I was doing this Crossfit Workout called "Fight Gone Bad". I had some modifications so it ended up looking like this:

60 seconds, as many reps as you can of one movement, then go to the next movement, 60 seconds, etc. When you do all five, then you get a 1 minute break. Then you go back and do the circuit a second time. Then a third time.

Dips (body weight)
High Pulls (75#)
Leg Press (270#)
Military Press (65#)
T-Bar Rows (45#)
So I did two circuits of it and my heart was pounding, I was so pumped I couldn't touch my chest, and as I completed dips and went to high pulls, my body decided it would be more comfy on the ground. So I sat down, then went to my back, and just laid there for a bit...nauseated and all that. Great stuff.

The problem: my weights were too high. I wasn't able to do enough reps to get the workout to do what it's supposed to do, but it was still ridiculous.

Well...in a way :)

I haven't thrown up PERIOD in about 14 years. Last time I puked from exertion was Sophomore year, at football practice. I just don't throw up for some reason.

^ I haven't ever thrown up from playing basketball. I threw up a few times during conditioning in football, but that was always b/c I wasn't in shape at the start of the season (JaMarcus Russell). This time, I thought I was in pretty good shape, but the workout was just ridiculous.

Incidentally, I'm getting over a sinus infection that has kept me out of the gym for the last week. I will return to working out either tomorrow or Thursday. I'm still having some trouble catching my breath sometimes.

Been really busy with school and work lately that I stopped working out. I was doing good. Lost about 23 lbs. Down to 177. I canceled my gym membership because I felt I was wasting my $ but i'm going to start working out on my own again. Maybe start running or playing some bball.

After being a pretty active peson my whole life(basketball, gym peridically, soccor, football(australian), cricket, etc) ive been totally shut down the last 6 months due to a hernia. Im pretty much over the operation now (had it 3 weeks ago, i delayed the operation because i was on holiday in canada) and i hit the treadmill tonight for the first time.

I. AM. DISGUSTED.

Im so unfit. I only ran a mile and a half befor i stopped. If i had of gutted it out i probly could have squeezed another mile out, but i was pretty beat after that mile and a half. I honestly thought ide be able to do better then that.

My calfs are going to be sore tomorrow thats for sure i can feel it already.

Should i just keep doing this distance to start with because thats where i feel i SHOULD run to... and wait till i slowly gain some of my fitness back, or just push myself till i vomit every night?

I'm in good shape. Today I was lazy though so I didn't go to the gym and I also have filming later on.

I run half a mile in 2 minutes and 42 seconds, which is amazing for a girl. If we wouldn't have our legs bent inwards, I'd go even faster. lol

I feel for you, mate. I had a similar incident a couple of years ago(not hernia though, right knee issue) and had to postpone everything sports-related. Was able to workout 6 months later and it nearly took an additional 3 to reach my old form - both physical and performance wise.

Regarding your question, when I was back at the gym first time after my injury, even though I was expecting a slight drop in performance, I felt the overwhelming desire to lift my original weights, run the same distance I used to run etc... Don't get me started with the results man5

My advice to you would be building up your stamina and gradually increase the distance, along with intensity.

Today I did biceps and triceps.
Biceps curls 3 sets of 12 reps, 8lbs
EZ Bar Curl 3 sets of 12 reps, empty bar(I think I’m the only fruitcake who uses an empty bar lol)
Barbell Preacher Curl 3 sets of 10 reps, 12lbs
Triceps Pull Downs 3 sets of 10 reps, 22lbs
I also used a machine for my triceps.
And 15 minutes of HIIT cardio, keeping the sprinting speed at 10 miles per hour and the recovery one at like 6mph.

Put another mile and a half on the treadmill last night despite my calfs screaming for me not to. It was somewhat easier, then the night befor. I didnt feel horrible at the end of it, and felt like i could have kept going. My calfs are REALLY sore today, and i might not run tonight. I want to though, we will see. Hopefully in a week or so I can get upto closer to 2.5 or 3 miles.

Three sets of it. First workout in more than a week. I felt great.

Still doing a mile and a half, getting quicker...

my ribs hurt :(... and my calfs... and my back... and my hips... hahahaha

Ive gone from doing the mile and a half the first night in 15 mins (slow i know, but i started off walking for fear of my hernia blowing up) and now I have it down to 10 minutes. Progress, but its a big effort...

if you really must have something, just put in alittle regular sugar. Maybe you can eat it with a banana? Poor sopme milk in it? Cook it with milk instead of water?

I have no idea....I prefer cream of wheat jam2

i have been eating plain oatmeal for oh since christmas and since i dont eat it regularly aka every morning(usually just 2-3 times a week), its rather hard to just get used to it. Sometimes i eat it on the way to school and it gets a lil cold, that will set off you gag reflex...

There are some flavored oatmeals that are low sugar. You can add some berries to it; they're low glycemic index and won't make a big dent in your diet. There are also whole grain pancakes, which when made with egg whites and skim milk are tasty and healthy. I often eat an apple with PB for breakfast, especially when I'm on the go.

My semester is slowly ending and with summer coming up I REALLY want to get back in shape. I'm about 5'10 160 as we speak. i want to hit the weights again and do a lot of cardio this summer. To those who lift weights how often do you hit the gym every week and can somebody please post their workout routines here. I just want to get an idea of what kind of things I should be doing and most importantly how many sets. I always have a tendency to do too many sets. I don't push myself with weights because I'm not trying to get big, just want to slim down a bit in the stomach area and get toned all around so I opt for weights that are probably at 60-70% the maximum i can lift. Is that too low?

Day 1 starts today. I'm off to the gym for a light work work with weights to get back into the flow. Good luck to everyone who's on a mission like me jam2
