Hey guys.
Brandon wanted me to come here and tell you all thanks for the support, and that he hopes to get the surgery done before May, so he can watch the Lakers pick apart the Suns, Rockets, Spurs and Celtics in the playoffs.
He also wanted me to type that the entire "NBA over the Lakers" was blown out of proportion, and he's still a Lakers fan and that he never did give up on the team and he kept writing about them, but he values the entire sport over one team as well. He said some will understand it, and some wont, but its the reason he owns an all-NBA board instead of a Lakers one.
We are still waiting on medicaid. The lady hes working with says anywhere from two weeks to four months or somethin like that, but he cant really wait that long, so he thinks he'll figure somethin out.
And here were the pictures of his eyes back in October. He is legally blind right now, and can't read anything or make out faces, so they are three times as bad as they are in these pictures.

Just heard the news, didn't know about this since I haven't been writing for his board (OTR) for a while now. I was lead writer on his board for a couple years, but had to step down due to school.
Apparently, he woke up a couple weeks ago with no vision in his eyes, he's practically blind at this point. He had problems from the get-go and complained about it often, but nothing to this extent. I guess it's being reported at his board that he's going to have surgery, but there may be some complications that will delay the proceedings.
Just wanted to inform the masses around here because he was once a mod and still a respected member here and in Laker lure in general.
Get well soon Brandon! |
Wow, very humbling -- my prayers are with him. |

Good news already. He applied for medicaid on Thursday of last week, and he received a call today saying he's approved and he has it as of right now. The case worker said that he is one of two people to ever get medicaid in the state of Kansas that quick.
The surgery is still being delayed though, because of Good Friday and no room to get him in, so it's set for Monday, March 24th, at 8:45 am in Oklahoma City.
The first surgery is on his left eye, and will be a vitrectomy (sp), laser treatment, retinal re-attachment and removing scar tissue and blood from the eye.
The second one will be two weeks later, and it will be all of that except for the re-attachment. _________________

Excellent! I'm very happy to hear this. Sounds like a tedious and somewhat painful ordeal but Brandon seems like a tough person and I know he will recover in time to watch the lakers compete in the playoffs.

I still dont get how this thread hasn't been stickied. Real Deal was and will always be a huge part of the CL family, having this thread at the top would be nice for those who show support and are interested in his surgery/rehabilitation. _________________

man, this is just heartbreaking. i wish all the best for brandon.
can we start a paypal fund or something to get him out here for a lakers game
when he recovers. plane and game tickets, and even a hotel room. i think
we have enough compassionate CL members here who would donate even just
5~10 dollars. i bet we even have season ticket holders here who would gladly give
brandon a seat at a game. there's propbably even someone here awesome enough
to put him up in their home if he came out. RealDeal did a LOT for this site, and he
is a great dude. i think this would be a terrific way we could show him how much
we respect and appreciate him. _________________ keepin it fresh eight days a week

First surgery was on Monday and he's in a LOT of pain. Any pain pills he takes run his blood sugars up, so he's just not taking any at all.
They did the good eye first to save it and they didn't put him under for it. They made a cut into the eye and had it numb the entire time, and had tools in it and worked on him for an hour with him awake (he had a choice).
He said he can't really see anything out of it right now because of all the blood, but that should get better but they can't guarantee that the surgery will even help it, either. There are stitches in it, which makes it water and irritated all the time.
Here are a couple of pictures. They suck in quality, but my good camera broke.
He does the bad eye in another week or two. _________________
