My blog after tonight's win against the Jazz.

Quote:
Lakers vs. Jazz

Well I haven’t posted a blog in awhile because the Lakers fell back to earth after suffering some losses. Stu Lantz mentioned how we’re on the most difficult road trip since the 71’-72’ NBA season. The most difficult according to the opponent’s winning record. Let’s see, we’ve had to face the Hornets who were right near us or I think tied with us for 2nd in the Western Conference standings at the time. In addition we had the Rockets who were on a 20+ winning streak, the Mavericks who struggled against opponents with a winning record, the Jazz who were on a 19 game winning streak at home which I thought was very impressive.

I’m not gonna lie, I expected a Laker loss but since we had a good start against the Jazz, I expected another good start and that’s what I got. The 1st quarter started off great as we executed and played tough defense against Boozer and company. At some point we led 20-8 and and the lead started to build. I forgot how much we led by but again it was a 20+ point lead. In the 1st quarter, we shot a blistering 75% from the floor. Even Odom added a 3. The 1st quarter we led 38-18, we led by 20 points after 1! That was pretty rare.

I can’t remember much from the 2nd quarter but I remember Sasha and Farmar doing well for us off the bench. We ended halftime leading by a bajillion points basically. If you read by Mavs blog, I mentioned how we collapsed to the Mavs and we lost our 25 point lead. Well I was expecting that again but surprising we didn’t cut our lead to like 2-4 points like the Mavs did. The Jazz started playing zone defense and we capitalized on some plays but their zone started paying off. The Jazz started running and got some easy buckets in the 3rd. They cut the lead to about 10-15 points and I got a bit worried but I was expecting the Lakers to learn their mistake in the Mavs game. The Jazz outscored us by 3 in the 3rd quarter which wasn’t all that bad.

4th quarter came and I didn’t let my guard down but the Jazz were just still fighting and Kobe was out so it was our bench to do the work and keep our lead to make Kobe get some rest to finish the game off right. Ronny was battling Boozer all night and picked up his 4th and 5th fouls. I thought this was gonna hurt us but Phil Jackson decided to play Odom on Boozer. I was scared but Odom has the length on all his opponents. I tried not to panic but the Lakers knew what to do and finish this game off right. The Jazz still was able to cut the lead down a couple times and I thought they were gonna take it after Deron hit a 4 point play because Kobe fouled his forehead. This scared me a bit but we had this game.

About 3-4 minutes left in the 4th, Kobe decided to take over the game and let the stupid Jazz fans shut up. The Jazz put Kirilenko and Korver on him and it didn’t help at all. Kobe was being Kobe and he was able to hit tough jumpers on them. The crowd was rowdy and Kobe was just goin at it. Kobe drove the lane and got a big jam and the place erupted. Kobe started yellin at the fans and it was familiar to me like the Kings game. I can’t remember when it happened but Kobe started poppin his jersey at the fans and the place was just gettin buck wild. Again, we heard MVP chants and KO-BE chants. In addition one tough customer threw beer at Fisher’s feet during the game. Utah Jazz fans are classless.

Lakers win 106-95.

Seattle tomorrow back home @ Staples.

Thanks.

Anyone have a link to Kobe's interview after the game?

I have always called the Jazz fans the most classless in the league...but to throw a full bottle onto the court is beyond unnecessary.

Yeah, that should be grounds for being banned from the arena for life. Someone coulda gotten seriously injured.

I was sitting just above the guy who threw it, pretty sure it was a plastic cup of beer, not a glass. I watched it fly the whole way, too fat to be a beer bottle.

After watching the highlights, it just wasn't Kobe taking it personally. It was the whole team as well, particularly Lamar. He was just absolutely aggressive that whole game.

Also glad to see Sasha getting his shot back.

I love the Hulk scream after the tomahawk jam and the jersey pop at the end. Just like Sacto fans, them Jazz fans got punk'd and they deserved every single minute of that beatdown. jam2

Yep, Kobe, along with MJ and Magic are the only guys I've seen at the elite level who play even better mad. Usually guys get OC. But with Kobe it seems like he needs some friction to really get his game pumped. Sometimes, as with the Kings he was kind of sleepwalking like the rest of the team until Miller started doing the hard fouls and Mikki Moore was egging him on. Then Kobe got personal and just abused them. What's the old adage about letting sleeping dogs lie? You wake up Kobe and make him pissed and it's over quick.

It was crazy how dominant he was last night, without even scoring that many points. I just remember seeing him only have 20 or so deep into crunch time yet I was thinking "Kobe is just killing this game." He was everywhere.

Also a magnificent game from LO. Really great to see LO take it to the Jazz all game long as you mentioned. Very aggressive baseline play against Okur. I couldn't believe how good LO looked on that and the silky smooth finish! I had to watch it like 3 or 4 times. Not an easy shot but he made it look easy.
