The Indy Star: Indiana University freshman Eric Gordon plans to enter the NBA draft, a person close to the situation told The Star.

IU is scheduled to issue a release Friday afternoon detailing when and where Gordon will make his formal announcement.

Gordon, who led the Big Ten in scoring as a freshman, is projected as a top-10 pick in most mock drafts, some as high as No. 5.

If he goes in the top 14, Gordon would be the third player from Indianapolis to be a lottery pick after one year in college, following Lawrence North's Greg Oden and Mike Conley, who went Nos. 1 and 4, respectively, last June.

Gordon, who led North Central to a Class 4A state runner-up finish as a senior, is the most prolific freshman scorer in IU history. He averaged 20.9 points this season, the first Hoosiers freshman to average more than 20 points per game.

He was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection and was named an All-American by several publications.

At 6-4, 215 pounds, Gordon is the same size as Gilbert Arenas, a two-time NBA All-Star.

Without Gordon, new IU coach Tom Crean will be down to five scholarship players.

Gordon and senior D.J. White are both projected as first-round picks.

People are being very harsh with this guy. I think he is going to be a really good player someday in the league. He went through alot this year in college being horribly harrassed because he made a decision not to go to Illinois because he wanted to play for Sampson who can't follow directions and got the axe. Gordon is most likely tired of the corruptness of college basketball.

Can he get better?...OF COURSE but what teenager out there is going to go into the NBA as a finished product. This guy has just as much reason to leave as any other underclassman and he is more physically ready than probably most. He's 6-4 215 pounds and he has the frame of a guy who might fill out to be 6-5 225. He has range on his jump shot well beyond the NBA 3 which heightens his ability to go to the hole. Coming out of high school many projected him as the best player over OJ Mayo, Derrick Rose, Kevin Love and Michael Beasley. As a college player he was the best player on a team with a 5th year senior who just so happens to be a projected first round draft pick (DJ White).

I say he is right to leave the nay sayers and the currupt NCAA behind him. "Go get yo money man" and keep working on your game.
