Not only that but Haslem is a PF not a SF. He cannot, repeat CANNOT, play the SF position. He is far too slow. He would be a nice backup to Gasol but why do we need him when we have Ronny to do the same thing (and block shots) for much less money?

I think the logical LO trades will be there in the offseason when he will be an expiring contract. Not before the NEXT deadline IMO.

stinks to be Lamar. man10

Not that easy. We will have to be teaching two guys the tri on the fly in the middle of the season. Seems to me that a deal won't go down (if one does at all) until the offseason.

That would be a short-term fix, and quite honestly, wouldn't be as effective as we could be with just inserting Sasha into the starting lineup (if Kobe DID have surgery).

Long term, we need an athletic, defensive, good shooting 3. That is why I mentioned Bobby Simmons in another thread. He's been in a slump and coming off the bench in Milwaukee, but he played excellent ball w/ the Clips. He can shoot and play defense, AND play some at the 2. Adding in Charlie Villanueva could give us excellent minutes at the 3 and 4, and could be shopped this summer w/ Luke or Rad to entice other teams to take one of their bad contracts.

TRADE: LO for Simmons & Villanueva

According to ESPN's Chad Ford, the Bucks are willing to part with both Simmons AND Charlie Villanueva, out of fears that he will lose trade value on the bench behind Yi, their current and future 4. Copy/paste from link:

Quote:
With Bucks GM Larry Harris in trouble, no one's sure whether owner Herb Kohl will let him make a deal. If the Bucks are active, don't be surprised if the player moved is Michael Redd. He has a ton of talent, but the three years and $34 million left on his contract are a concern for Milwaukee -- and for potential trade partners as well.

Charlie Villanueva would be easier to move. Yi Jianlian is the future at the 4, so the Bucks should move Villanueva while he still has some value. But the team has been trying to package him with Bobby Simmons -- two years, $20 million remaining -- which is why they haven't found any takers yet.

Why the Bucks do it: More salary cap relief for a 2010 plan (Mason comes off the books @ $5mil). They give LO the opportunity to play the 3, giving the Bucks their own TALL front court of LO, Bogut, Yi

Mo Williams / Bell
Redd / Ivey
LO / Mason
Yi / Ruffin
Bogut / Gadzuric

Thin @ 4, but they'd immediately upgrade their starting 5.

Yes, we'd take back a bad contract in Simmons, but he might fit better at the 3 than LO and still cost less. I dunno, what do you guys think?

I would be willing to part with Lamar Odom, if it meant us getting Derrick Rose from Memphis, and a filler

Bynum for Rose.... man10

Derrick is by far my favorite player in this draft class. He just has something special.

Odom for Rose.....please Mitch do it!!!!!!!

Can you imagine watching Rose and Bynum for the next 10 years....I think I just creamed.

Great minds think alike. When I saw this on RealGM's wiretap I went and found the same scenarios. Hinrich would be a great tri 1 and Nocioni brings the defense and 3-ball we need. I like it.

This one is great.

But well Mitch still has a magic wand so...

Lamar+Walton+Fisher for Billups+Tayshaun

Billups/Farmar
Kobe/Sasha
Tayshaun/Radman/Ariza
Gasol/Turiaf
Bynum/Mbenga/Mihm

Too bad it's never going to happen. The whole idea of trading Lamar is to bring in a true SF etc. and LESS salary. Hinrich + Nocioni would bring in more salary and long-term salary at that. Not going to happen.

My fave scenarios (disregarding the filler needed to complete the trade):

Odom to Charlotte for Gerald Wallace and Nazr Mohammed

Odom to Golden State for Stephen jackson and filler

Odom to Houston for Battier and Bobby Jackson

Odom to Chicago for Nocioni and Duhon

Odom to New jersey for Richard Jefferson

Additionally (I'm not that crazy about these trades but they could be good for us):

Odom to Seattle for Watson, Jeff Greene and damien Wilkins

Odom to Washington for Antonio daniels and Haywood (no SF but a very tall PG and a great backup C)

Odom to Utah for AK

It does bring in less salary. You need to consider that Lamar isn't going to be let go for nothing and that Farmar is due an extension that will be worth $$$. In addition, we don't pay big luxury tax on the first year or two of Hinrich/Nocioni because Bynum's extension won't have kicked in.

Quote:

Odom to Charlotte for Gerald Wallace and Nazr Mohammed

What is the filler here? It's pretty important to consider fillers because this legitimately increases salary infinitely. Gerald Wallace is due about 57 million dollars on his current contract and Mohammed is at 25 million. You're sending LO out for 82 million here so there needs to be significant bad contracts going back. If that's the case, why would Charlotte be interested in taking on LO + bad contracts for two guys who are big contributors to their team? Charlotte needs an offensive post option. I don't think they have LO in mind.

Quote:

Odom to Golden State for Stephen jackson and filler

I like this one as well, but the problem is that the only possible salary filler is Al Harrington and if you add him in, it's not worth it for GS.

Quote:

Odom to Houston for Battier and Bobby Jackson

I like this as well, but see no reason for Houston to do it. They need Bobby Jackson at the back-up PG slot. They needed him bad enough to improve another contender's bench immensely. With the emergence of Scola and Landry, this creates an unnecessary log jam at PF.

Quote:

Odom to Chicago for Nocioni and Duhon

Can't trade Duhon. He's on the end of a last year. There has to be an L.A. filler because you need two trades to get this done. Can't combine players in an S&T trade.

This is a very unfair deal to L.A. value wise without some kind of good value coming back and there is no way they cough up for their pick for Lamar. The pick is useful because it gives them a large expiring to combine with a top ten pick to get that star player they need. If not, they need to send out enough salary to make Odom successful as a salary dump if they can't remove him later on. In either case, they need the pick to play or to use in a trade to help the rebuilding effort.

Quote:

Odom to New jersey for Richard Jefferson

This, again, all depends on filler because it immensely increases salary without one. Another consideration here: why exactly does NJ move RJ instead of VC? RJ is young and can be used to help rebuild while Vince's salary becomes rather useless, because of his age, without Kidd on board.

Quote:

Odom to Seattle for Watson, Jeff Greene and damien Wilkins

There is no interest here from Seattle. Trust me. I live in Seattle and their rebuilding plan is structured around making the correct choices in the draft. They want picks and young talent. Odom is not their guy.

Quote:

Odom to Washington for Antonio daniels and Haywood (no SF but a very tall PG and a great backup C)

I don't like this at all. Terrible value for LO. We can get much, much better.

Quote:

Odom to Utah for AK

This another one where the fillers are imperative because AK makes big bucks. He is due 63 million over the next 4 years.

I've purposed this same trade, but I'm thinking now that they won't deal Battier after the recent success. They won with D, he's their best defender.

Still, we do that and we improve IMO.

Would Houston run Scola at the 4 with McGrady sliding to the 2 to accompany Odom at the 3? Don't think so.

^^Odom would certainly fit best at the 4 in the semi-Adelman system they run in Houston. The Rockets RELY on that spacing they get from having another 3 point shooter to accompany McGrady and Yao.

Odom is an Adelman player.

Odom at the 4 with Ming is fantastic if they get another 3-ball shooter.

I just covet Battier hard. I've always been a huge fan.

Battier would be an excellent addition; that's for sure. He's not the talent of Mike Miller, but he's far more clutch, works harder, and is a better defender as a result.

I'd prefer Battier overall. Much better defender, has the 3 ball, doesn't even need to touch the ball to be effective.

Imagine putting Battier on Carmelo? Capt Jack? Gino? Defense is 50% of the game. Limiting them is just as good as scoring 16 points on 60%.

Still, I'm a big Miller guy. Miller, Lowry, and Collins package. Do it Mitch. Get us that sniper and defender at the 1.

I'd absolutely prefer Battier for this team as well(though I see no way we can get him). We have enough offensive weapons that we can live without Miller's superior guard skills and physical attributes. Battier is shooting 52.3 eFG% on his jumpers this year. Miller is at 55.6%. However, Miller is 38.5% in the clutch and this is a repeating pattern. Batter is 50.0% by the same token. Battier had an excellent showing against Bryant, much better than he usually is, but he's still an awesome defender and much better than Miller in that regard. I also feel that he brings those intangible qualities that this team is sometimes missing.

I just pray they find ways to rid some other contracts and keep Lamar. The only player I would want back in a trade for him would be Shane Battier. If they could get Battier, that would give them 3 great defensive players in lineup along with Kobe and Bynum. Gasol and Fisher would be even better with those 3 around them.
I just want to keep Lamar
