You gotta love how Rony sells it, don't do it man its dangerous you gotta play 40 minutes man.
Not that hard to do actually for an nba player with some athleticism very low car driving fast enough to clear him completely.
Only worry would be the car clipping him and killing him but other than that no biggie.
Kobe rides motorcycles he might have been crazy enough to attempt it.
We really don't know the real Kobe. so he might have one of those danger seeking personalities. |

Sheesh. Why are people so stubborn to accept this is fake?
Look at Kobe's shadow when he jumps and lands. It doesn't match. It looks like the shadow is moving at a different frame rate. The brightness of the shadow even changes right when he makes his jump FFS! 
When he makes the jump, it looks like the shadow has brought their feet toward their hamstring/behind. This makes sense, you don't want the car to clip your feet sending you rotating. At that moment in time Kobe still has his feet pointed downward. Another thing, the shadow looks like it just shoots out of a cannon.
And at the end it even warps into place. It looks hilarious.
I'm not going to get into why the Lakers/Nike would let Kobe do this. |

It's called an optical illusion.
You can do many wonderful things along a 'flat plane'.
Prime Example: If you live in a city full of high rise buildings, look out for an airplane headed towards the skyscrapers. Now, to the naked eye, on a 'flat plane'...it appears the plane is going to collide into the skyscrapers. In reality, all the airplane/pilot did was fly either to the left or right of the structure. Being that the viewer is seeing things upon a 'flat plane', it creates that SAME EXACT optical illusion Kobe just manufactured. |

How was the shadow on the Aston Martin done? How was the shadow contorted to the body of the car? What software was used? Is there a tutorial explaining the process?

| It's a fake. 1. I believe Kobe endorses Ronny, Ronny is the only other Laker to wear Kobe's shoe. 2.No Shadow was cast over the car. I'm not talking about Kobe's I'm talking about the Light post on the ground. |

How do you do a post shadow on the aston martin? Does the software analyse the car to figure out the topography? |
it can be as easy as taking a freeze frame (FF) on the car and taking it into photoshop so you just have the car. You can mess with the levels there or even mess with the levels in After Effects. You have to make it clean and have the placement on right. Also, you can even draw your shadow for the car in After Effects and place it under it, but you have to be experienced enough to make it look clean...from there on which ever method you use, you have to use the right effects, where it being the right blur and adjusting it appropriately or other effects as well.
As far as the LIGHT POST SHADOW on the car, this is very simple. You can dupliate the video layer of the car (the car layer might even be an image keep in mind,there is a high possibility on that)...but I will assume it is a .mov file or .avi or whatever. (the masking would be 100x easier with a FF or image)....but regardless, if it is a movie or video file for the car, all you do is duplicate that layer and add a mask to it to only show the shadow area so that mask doesn't block out anything. Following me here?
The duplicated layer needs to be arranged appropriately in the Layers or TImeline Pallete so that the mask can work correctly....because you are putting it on top of the car. The masked car goes over the light post, so you need to have the duplicated Layers of the background and shadow above car speeding by.
From there on you distort it to how you think would be appropriate from how the car is going. You can also add an effect and make sure it doesn't change too much or else it would look weird.
Also, having a mask on the Light Post Shadow Area is easier in this case because it is on a solid plain background, which is the ground or floor or street. It would be harder to adjust that mask if it was on a more detailed and cluttered background.
All these factors come into mind before shooting.
KEEP IN MIND, THE SHOT COULD HAVE BEEN THE CAR DRIVING BY AND THE LIGHT POST SHADOW WAS NATURAL.......and then having Kobe and Ronny green screened in. You can go either way n what you wan't to green screen.....
But i see the easier and better route WAS to have the car green screended. Also, the shots could be both on the same day, same location, same everything....maybe 2 minutes apart. All Kobe had to do was jump and Ronny had to act.....while 2 mins later or before the car was driving by with nothing there....
From there on that could be an easier transition for MASKING....There would be no need to green screen anything if that was the case...ONLY masking.....I think this is probably what they did and was the easiest thing to do.....made it the cleanest.

read my post above...there are a few programs that do this, but I am a pure Mac and Apple guy and use Adobe After Effects.....Adobe just seems to run better with Macs than PCs. You can use several other programs though. I don't think I will ever go back to a PC ever again to tell you the truth. I have been a Mac guy for about 6-7 years now.

all in all revgen...the clip is so quick and isn't on the car as much with a lighter shadow than the car....there could be flaws and you could get away with it becase it happens so fast and the attention is not there.
that is if you want to do it that way.

This the part I'm interested in. Does the person have to manually distort the shadow to the car? Or does Adobe figure out the topography automatically? Or is it a bit of both? I'm talking about Kobe's shadow, not the light post.

He was to the side of the car, closer to the camera than the car was.

I agree completely with karacha. The video is real and not doctored but the car is behind Kobe. It is still very cool because it shows that he CAN easily jump over a car.
