I don't know about the 6 week part, but the start of the 1st round doesn't look good.
Per LA Times:
| Quote: |
Lakers center Andrew Bynum had not been cleared for full practices or to play and is doubtful for the start of the playoffs.
There is no specific date set for his return, the Lakers said today.
Bynum was examined by a knee specialist in New York on Wednesday. "Andrew will continue with his therapy program and workouts with the Lakers' training staff and will continue to be monitored until he can return to playing status," Dr. David Altchek said.

Look at the update:
Lakers center Andrew Bynum was examined yesterday in New York by knee specialist Dr. David Altchek and has not been cleared to progress to full practices or contact drills, it was announced today.
"This should not be seen as a setback in any way," said Altchek. "Andrew will continue with his therapy program and workouts with the Lakers' training staff and will continue to be monitored until he can return to playing status."
There is no target date for Bynum's return. |

| I wish the Lakers would spare us this isn't considered a setback. What do they think we are idiots? 8 weeks turns into who knows because this six weeks could turn into 6 months at this rate. In other words, Bynum is out until next season and HOPEFULLY he will be back then. |

| He'd be back right now if we had the Suns training staff. It's the Karl Malone injury and all the mistakes that went into treating him all over again. |

it's a setback - the prognosis is six weeks - but they want to spin it so it sounds better than it is. And yes anything is possible - he'll continue to try to work back into it - and maybe they're saying 4 weeks - and then try to get back in game condition and at the 6 week mark we'll give the green light
maybe there's a chance it's in 4 - but we've been saying maybe it's early since it happened.
time to accept the situation as it is. |

is this is not a setback, what is considered a setback? he went from 8 weeks to 12 weeks to hopefully back for round 3?
No way can doctors tell you 8 weeks when he really need 6 months to heal.....dude has been practicing and is suppose to play on Sunday. How you go from playing on Sunday to out of the playoffs?
If you don't want to evaluate the medical staff, then evaluate your brain. DAMNIT!!! |

this has NOTHING to do with the Lakers training staff. He hurt his knee terribly - and it's been the doctor's giving a timeline at which point he can start to rehab. They check it - it didn't respond as they would hope primarily TO REST - so there's delay.
It's like - I got my arm cut off - the trainer must suck |

i understand the injury wasn't their fault but c'mon from 8 to 16 to more likely the season that is all due to a bad rehabilitation program
this is a consistent issue i doubt its simply the injuries are worse than percieved every time
so are you telling me the doctors are misdiagnosing our players everytime |

there is no rehab plan - there was NO MISDIAGNOSIS - only a prognosis that he should rest eight weeks - we'll look at it and see where he's out - rest 6-8 more weeks - see where it's at - try to get active and get back - see where it's at.
there's nothing anyone can do in this situation - the knee is a difficult, complicated part of the body. It takes about 18 months to successfully return in full from microfracture surgery. |

Well, you can forget all about a championship in the season of 2007-2008 IMHO. Hopefully we can make people fear the future in this year's post-season. _________________ Help me name my Puppy! |

Its not their FAULT that abomb got injured. Its ALL their fault for not getting Abomb back into form in the expected time THEY GAVE OUT!
Its my fault for not studying and failed the test. But IF I HIRED HELP and the instructor gives me false information after false information, its time to fired that monkey. Abomb has been doing EVERYTHING they wanted, its their job to make him healthy and ready for the PO. |

so there was never an 8 week period is what you are saying
8 weeks was rest before he could begin rehabilitation so we should blame john black for lying to us
this is ridiculous setbacks occur usually due to mishap in rehabilitation or starting up too early
IMHO all signs point to an incompetent training staff |

| Are you guys still gonna trust what these doctors gonna say? Lets just hope he gets back, nothing else we can do at this point. Obviously its up in the air whether he gets back in 6 weeks anyway, nothing we can do but wait till he's actually on the COURT. |

the lakers said originally "at least eight weeks" - that's why right now they're saying "indefinitely" because that's an accurate statement.
the doctor's give their best estimate - the Lakers roll it out - and people assume it's law - when it's just a doctor looking at what he can glean - and making a guess.
everyone's body is unique - and heals at different rates - in addition the severity of injuries are varied - and in the knee specifically - hard to diagnose. |
