Real I'm glad you posted here it means a lot to all of us, we are praying for you everyday.
I just have one question, and I may have missed it,but why did you lose your eye sight? |
My diabetes. I've got severe, proliferative diabetic retinopathy.
Most of the time, you get it by not taking care of your blood sugars, but in my case, it didn't matter how good I took care of myself...it just hit me, skipped the early stages and went straight to severe. |
I'm sorry RD, but I'm glad you are fighting harder than most people would! _________________ Do you like music?

Well, I got some bad news today. Apparently, Medicaid isn't going to cover the cost of my surgery, or any of my appointments. This does two things:
1) forces me to pay $10,000+ for everything I've done so far
2) delays my second surgery until I find another surgeon
They tell me that, since I went to Oklahoma City for the surgery, and it's Kansas Medicaid, they won't pay for it being out of state. The rule is, I needed a referral from another doctor, which I got...but now, they want to know WHY that doctor referred me to OKC. That was actually placed ON the referral, so I'm very, very pissed off because they are trying to get out of it.
I had an appt. tomorrow, but it looks like I won't be going. This doctor was probably the one doctor I like. I'm known for trying to get out of seeing docs, because I haven't had any good ones for a while...but this is very disappointing, to say the least.
Not making an attempt to rant for paragraphs, I'm just steaming because so many [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.] people that DON'T deserve medical assistance, who try and screw the system, can get whatever they want, whenever, with no problems. I know this because my uncle is one of them...falling off a semi on purpose, "hurting" his back and getting on disability, getting his surgery done for free and suing the trucking company in the process.
I'm not very amused by it at all. Coffeyville is practically in Oklahoma (there's a town in Oklahoma named South Coffeyville, and that's actually the south part of my town). They got their referral, the eye center was given the go-ahead to do it by Medicaid, and after everything was looking up, they screw me over, and screw Dean McGee Eye Center as well. _________________

Well, we went to my appointment today. My family doctor, and my eye doctor, teamed up and got this taken care of for me. One called up the Medicaid offices and told them that he tried for weeks to get me set up with eye specialists in Kansas, and the one in OKC was the quickest and could do the most for me. My eye doctor provided something that proved that there was a call made to the surgery center, from the OKC offices, approving the surgery with a confirmation on the computer, or something.
And...because my family doctor did that for me, they are now going to pay for everything, as well as the second surgery.
=========
Now...the appointment. I got my right eye checked again, and I read two sets on the 20/30 line. My doctor freaked out, said he was "on Cloud 9" and that he hasn't seen anyone heal that well, from where I was a month ago.
Then, he looked into the eye and told me that there was still blood in it, and that it has a very big chance of getting even better...then he said that he would've never expected this.
I go back in a month, May 21st, for my last appointment until the second surgery (and he'll schedule that one at that time). He said he's still pessimistic about the other eye because it's detached as well, much worse than the other one was...but after seeing this first one, he really can't say things will go bad for me.
And...I've dropped the text size down one, so it's only twice as large now. _________________

Great news Real! When I read the whole thing about medicare I was like those damned companies are a bunch of freaking crooks. It was great that the doctors stepped up to the plate for you and solved the problem. Either good things happen to good people or these prayers and thoughts are paying off. I am glad to know that things are going great as you are improving. Keep up the fight Brandon! _________________

As long as every veteran member here gets to watch Laker games, I will be happy and calm, otherwise I couldn't enjoy the game knowing one of our brothers isn't enjoying our same privileges.
Your doctor couldn't be happier, your family couldn't be happier, and your CL family also couldn't be happier for you.

Good stuff going on...
I can read without blowing up the text size now. I still get a little bleeding now and then, but it's from those old blood vessels that still remain (closed off, but not completely) and there isn't enough blood to ruin my vision.
After surgery:
Today:
I'll be getting my other eye fixed (FINALLY) in a week or two. It may not produce the results I had in this first eye (because my other eye is just destroyed, detached retina, scar tissue, blood vessels and everything), but it could at least help me see straight and maybe see a bit more out of it. Who knows.
Getting excited, guys! The Lakers are KILLING IT!
Again, and always, thanks for all the support. _________________

That's all fantastic news Brandon, your eye looks great. I remember reading how down you were a few weeks ago, but you've hung in there and I think things are gonna turn out well. Good luck with the other eye, keep up the positive attitude. _________________ Weezy's Weemens

Had my second surgery on the 18th, just a few days ago...going through absolute hell.
Here's what my eye looks like right now. My other eye looks much better...I'm really happy with how well they did on it.
And here's a graphic of what they did:
Scleral Buckle around my eye
Oil bubble inside the eye to hold retina in place
