This does not make any sense to me.

Quote:
Chicago Tribune: Paxson was intrigued with several of D'Antoni's offensive ideas using Bulls personnel. But Paxson also values defense, not considered one of D'Antoni's strengths.

That's why Paxson, according to sources, discussed hiring a veteran defensive assistant during his interview with D'Antoni last weekend in Phoenix. D'Antoni is closely linked to offensive-minded assistants like Phil Weber and older brother Dan D'Antoni.

Suns general manager Steve Kerr discussed a similar topic with D'Antoni before last season, when he opted to hire former player Jay Humphries over defensive-minded Tom Thibodeau. The latter went to Boston and consistently draws praise for helping turn the Celtics into the league's best defensive team this season.

Thibodeau's credentials are also why Paxson hopes to meet with the longtime assistant, whom he interviewed for an assistant job that Thibodeau turned down in the summer of 2003.

Paxson also plans to interview Avery Johnson, although the former Mavericks coach is owed close to $12 million from Dallas and has hinted at sitting out next season. It could take a large deal to woo Johnson, and Paxson appears inclined only to pay top dollar for D'Antoni.

Why not just keep Skiles then?

Had the players tuned out Skiles that much? And if so, it's going to be the same story in two years with AJ.

They don't have the players needed to make the most of these two candidates' abilities. So Paxson must be considering some major roster tinkering or he's just loony.

Skiles was a scapegoat and nothing more.

They made a mistake by getting rid of him, he's a quality coach.
