The sign up period has ended, but if you still are interested in playing PM me and I will put you on the waiting list. PLEASE PUT "WAITING LIST" IN THE TITLE BECAUSE MY INBOX IS GOING TO BE FLOODED FOR THE NEXT MONTH 1/2. Unfortunately every year we lose a couple good men out there. Playing in the GM Challenge? Yes, with the GM Challenge. You lose good men to trades, unruly fans, and prior commitments in life. L... look, I don't want to talk about it, I'm sorry.
_____________________________________________________
GM Challenge is back for year number 3.
I’ll keep this as short and sweet as possible…
-Only one league this year. Like last year, we'll only be running one league. Two leagues was a circus. At some point and time I could envision a scenario in which we could get back to two leagues, since we will have a handful of members with knowledge of how this game runs (since my co-host has varied in each year's contest). But that would depend on activity, interest, and is something that we are at least two-three years away from.
-Those interested will be selected based on a few points: A) their grade on the CBA quiz. B) their activity (based on activity on the board but more importantly their activity in the prior GMCs). C) If it's borderline or if this is your first time playing, you're really going to have to sell me on why you should be competing this year.
-If you are interesting in joining the GMC (General Manager Challenge) this summer, either drop me a PM or let me know in this thread.
-The GM Challenge will tip-off on the 20th, after the NBA draft lottery. GMs will be assigned to team in the same random manner--the 'ole folded names in the hat routine.
-Keep checking this forum throughout the week because I will be posting more goodies for the GMs. This thread was just to give everyone a head’s up on when the GM Challenge will start rolling. _________________

The final 4 are automatically in.
JSJ, Kobe Bryant 8, and yourself.
I'll try contacting Sky seeing but I'm not sure whether he'll come back or not. _________________

I definitely want in again. I honestly don't remember what I did last year in the league, but I remember my first year I had the Pistons, and Ben wouldn't resign with me. I turned them into
Raymond Felton/Chris Duhon
Andre Iguodala/Sasha Vujacic/Jumaine Jones
Josh Smith/Grant Hill/Nick Caner-Medley
Ike Diogu/Kwame Brown/Ronny Turiaf
Nenad Krstic/Chris Mihm/Zeljko Rebraca
At that time I had a great young core and expiring contracts of Grant Hill ($17mil) and a few others. _________________ GoalLineBlitz (Manute Bol- LB) http://goallineblitz.com/game/signup.pl?ref=298765

I am honored that JSM PMed me asking if I was interested in doing this again, I truly am. But, as much as I would love to do this again, because believe me generally this game is indeed a blast, I have decided to retire from this game or at least go on hiatus. One thing about this game is that it is quite time consuming and time is something I really don't have much of these days. The only way I would like to be involved is by possibly being an assistant GM or possibly a role as an adviser. I did make it through a couple of cuts in the first year of this game.
Since would indeed consider either an assistant GM position or adviser role here is what I turned my teams into.
YEAR 1:
| Quote: |
Seattle Sonics
PG- TJ Ford / Luke Ridnour / Howard Eisley
SG- Ray Allen / Gordon Giricek / Allan Ray
SF- Michael Jordan / Rodney Carney / Damien Wilkins
PF- Troy Murphy / Danny Fortson / Paul Milsap
C-- Andrew Bogut / Robert Swift / Mikki Moore
|
YEAR 2:
| Quote: |
Charlotte Bobcats
PG: Raymond Felton / Brevin Knight / Smush Parker
SG: Marquis Daniels / Rodney Stuckey / Shannon Brown
SF: Lamar Odom / Adam Morrison / John Salmons
PF: Sean May / Brian Cook / Othella Harrington
C: Spencer Hawes / Primo Brezec / Kyryolo Fesenko |

If we're going to gloat over our own accomplishments in last years game....
| Quote: |
The Sacramento Queens were in a bad, bad way. Virtually every contract on the team was long and pricey, with nothing showing that backed-up those paychecks.
I mean, Brad Miller owed 35 million? Bibby with 27? Salmons with 20? Kenny Thomas with 24? --- All of that, plus the fact I had a head case that was seeing his stock shrink by the day, made me realize I had to make some very drastic changes.
The first move was done to strictly cut salary. It did. I got rid of three players that no longer needed to be on this team and dumped over 23 million in the 2008 season. After that, I traded the little I had (while keeping the expirings) and nabbed TJ Ford and Monta Ellis, perhaps the fastest backcourt in the league that is becoming more-and-more about the quick guard.
Getting Maxiell and Johnson for practically nothing? That could pay-off VERY well. I honestly think Amir Johnson has out-of-this-world potential.
I have a great foundation of young talent (some proven), with 20 million still in cap room, five first rounders in the next two seasons (I predict two lottery next season).
I'm not saying at all that my team would compete right now, because I know that would be a lie, but having the assets I have right now makes me very, very dangerous as soon as next season. A lot of people are arguing about who has the better frontline, backcourt, and all that stuff. The thing is, you have to realize that not every team can make the moves to win now. Some, like me, needed to build from the ground up. Next year, I will have all the chips I need; space, young studs, tons of picks....
...That can turn this franchise into something, and considering how I was before, that's saying something. |

I'd love to join. I've been watching carefully for the past couple years, and got some interesting coaching strategies I'd love to try out.\
