Quote:
Boston Globe: Word is, Boston entertainment prince Patrick Lyons might have played a role in the Celtics' blowout Game 7 win over the Hawks a week ago that vaulted them to the second round. The Hawks stayed at the Liberty Hotel May 3 in Cambridge before playing the Celtics. A league source said Lyons, who operates the Alibi Lounge in the hotel, instructed his bar staff to give anyone affiliated with the Hawks a double shot in any alcoholic beverage they ordered.

Funny stuff. Well, what can I say? They should not be drinking alcohol before an important game anyway. Drink water. Because 2 X 0% alcohol is still 0%. man12

While a bad move by those associated with Boston, I think the Hawks should have known better than to drink alcohol before an important game.

So this is the real reason for their Home Court Advantage man1

Seriously this was real stupid of Boston to put it out there I mean now Cleveland and whoever they might end up playing next if they advance will know this and either go somewhere else or make sure not to fall for this.

I agree if the Hawks were stupid enough to do this that's their fault however what if they were topping the drink and the Hawks players didn't bother to realize it? Then is that okay?

I mean they didn't break any NBA rules but would be rather foul no?

A few shots won't do squat for the type of bodies these guys have. i really doubt the Hawks players took more then 5 shots in their drink. C'mon guys, i bet no one was passed tipsy..

Technically they didn't get them drunk. The Hawk's players got themselves drunk. They made choice, its not like they put a gun into their heads forcing them to get drunk. As professionals they should know when its the right time to celebrate and practice, unfortunately they made the wrong choice and it may have cost them the series.

Well if you drink alcohol the night before the game 7 of the playoffs...you definitely deserve to go fishing after the next day.

I'll agree the Hawks shouldn't have been sipping gin the night before the game.....but there is some collective karma here at work...and you know it's going to bite the Celtics sooner or later.

they chose to drink.
doesn't mean they chose to get drunk.

what if they had a mixed drink at dinner? maybe two...thats pretty much harmless to them. double the alcohol at the bar...thats like drinking 4 might do a little something to them.

I'm curious if that violates any laws.

It is in clear violation of Man Law #46, other than that I'm not sure.

If it's the difference between 1 and 2 or 2 and 4, probably not. Once you get up to 3 or 4 or 5 (I'm assuming, like you, that no one is going to drink more than that before a game), it's significant.

Factor in most alcoholic beverages have 1.5 shots and then in one drink you're talking about 3 shots. Even in a 200-250 pound body, that adds up.

If I know I have something to do the next day, even a game, I MIGHT drink a couple of pints, but I surely wouldn't have more than 3. So say I do 2 drinks, expecting to get 2-3 shots. Instead, I get 4-6. That's significant. I'm not saying they're going to be hammered, but it can mess with your stomach, lead to dehydrating, etc.

I was thinking the same thing. If they would have gotten DUI's or something, could the hotel been held accountable? Heck, what if someone got sick or alcohol poisoning? If I'm ordering hard liquor, I'm counting drinks for the first hour or so since it takes about that long to have an effect on me.

Alcohol shouldn't even matter unless you are getting smashed.

They shouldn't have been drinking period. Whether or not this is true, nobody knows for sure, and if it is, then even as a Boston fan I'm pretty disgusted by it, but the Hawks shouldn't have been drinking anything short of water before that game.

that's actually really, really shady. whether they should have been drinking alcohol is not even the issue here. i mean that's basically spiking their drink, not as serious as drugs obviously but still.
