Quote:
Miami Herald: As Tuesday's draft lottery approaches, the buzz builds around Memphis point guard Derrick Rose, whom a growing number of teams now favor over Kansas State power forward Michael Beasley, one NBA personnel official asserted.

The Heat told one NBA person it leans toward Rose if it picks first, though a Heat official cautioned there is no decision. An official with another team who spoke to Miami was left believing Pat Riley loves Rose, but Beasley also has some support internally.

So whom should Miami take if it picks first? We asked more than a dozen basketball people -- NBA executives, college coaches and TV commentators -- and more than two-thirds said Rose. Some feedback:

• All four NBA personnel officials -- three of whose teams have lottery picks -- voted Rose for Miami (all requested anonymity).

''You take Rose because the game is becoming increasingly guard oriented,'' one team's scouting director said. ``Guards who have that combination of speed and power have increasing impact in the league. And if Miami doesn't take Rose, they will continue to have a huge point guard problem. They can do without a great power forward more than a great point guard.''

A second scouting director said, ``You have so many smaller point guards, and here's a chance to get a bigger [6-3], more physically mature one. His perimeter shooting consistency will get better.''

Another personnel man said Beasley, at 6-9, won't consistently ''be going against smaller power forwards like he did in college. With Rose, he's a tough matchup no matter what.'' Still, he expects some teams would take Beasley No. 1.

I hope Rose winds up with an Eastern Conference team but I don't want it to be the Heat. I've got to support the former Memphis Tiger but I can't do that if he's a member of the Heat team because I cannot support D-Whistle's pathetic brand of basketball.

Miami would be crazy not to draft him. It's not really hard for a scoring guard to change his playing style as a point.

Like I said before, if the Heat draft him and sign Brand, they will be back in title contention.

Thankfully the team with the worst record usually doesn't win the lottery.

So here's to hoping the Knicks win the lottery.

Calipari already had him playing a free flowing, run-run-run offense. He'd be a perfect fit and a great way to hit the reset button on what's been the shame of the NBA for the past few years.

Pat Riley is the GM of the Heat, correct? He also really LOVES Jordan Farmar's swagger and his game. He also like the fact that he would then get 2 first round picks next year, as well as the expiring contracts of Mihm and Karl. This isn't something I just made up. Even Dave Smith on the radio made a brief mention that Pat Riley really loves Farmar's game.

I don't see why
Jordan Farmar+Coby Karl+ Chris Mihm+09 and '11unconditional first rounders wouldn't be enough for Derrick Rose?

Pay Riley if you do this you deserve a staue outside of Staples.

Rose and Bynum for the next 10 years jam2

No way in hell. Not even if he had more Laker love than McHale does for the Celtics...which he doesn't.

1) Farmar is a backup PG in this league
2) The Lakers 1st round pick next year will be the 28th-30th pick which is basically a 2nd round pick.

No one trades the #1 pick in the draft, where they can get a guy who will be a top 10 PG next year and possibly a top 5 by year 2, for a 2nd round pick + scrubs.

Rose just has it. The last time I was this enamored with a point guard was with Chris Paul, and look how he turned out.

I would personally go out and buy a Gold #23 Rose jersey if that ever happened.

With Rose, we would never have to worry about what happens when Kobe retires, because we would have our Rose and Bynum for the next 10 years killing everyone in the league. Please God, you gave us Gasol for crap, may we please get Derrick Rose on this team. The kid is a flat out winner.

You sir need to lay off the weed. Bealey over Rose? Hell No. Beasly will be a Carmelo Anthony type of player. A kid with a lots of skills, but with a bad character, and will be a "cancer". Rose on the other hand will be a cross between Deron Williams and Chris Paul. This year its such a no-brainer at #1 you could call it with brail. jam2
