|
|
| Quote: |
There are rumblings in Southern California that the Warriors might be secretly hoping that point guard Baron Davis decides to opt out of his contract this summer.
There are two theories as to why coach Don Nelson benched Davis in the second half of the team's late-season loss to the Suns that ended their playoff hopes.
One is that Nelson was "punishing" Davis for not getting proper rest the night before, the other is that Nellie was hoping to push Baron towards opting out and becoming a free agent.
Davis will be owed $17.8 million next season if he doesn't opt out of his current deal. Money that executive Chris Mullin could certainly use in order to keep young guys like Monta Ellis, Andris Biedrins, Matt Barnes and Mickael Pietrus in town.
Davis has repeatedly stated that he wants to remain a Warrior, but agent Todd Ramasar expressed a need for his client to reconsider his position. |

this guy should come to LA, opt out, and Farmar could be sent or something.
I mean we have Vlad Luke and Ariza one of those guys will probably leave. If Sasha gets a healthy contract we could do very little things when it comes to signing. But Baron would probably play for less to win a ring with LA. _________________ There are so many emotions at the end of the season, nobody likes to talk about it. But one of them is fear, fear that you come this far and it can all end. The dream could die. But me? I like the fear, it means I'm close. It means...... I'm ready.

| They are probably hoping he opts out but I just don't see him leaving that much money on the table. |

Again I say, I'd love Baron here. He's a huge Kobe fan.
Incidentally, did you guys see him at UCLA before his knee injury? He was insane. _________________

The guy is waaay overpaid, so I could see why the Warriors would hope to have him opt out. The guy is still a top 5-6 PG in the league, but he isn't getting any younger too. Injuries over the years have severly hindered his athletecism too, which forces him to settle for contested jump shots and crazy turn around fadeaways.
I'd bet he stays with the Warriors, if not, I don't know if any team will be willing to sign him for a big payday. Maybe a sign and trade? _________________

Exactly...The reason why BD will be back in the bay, and the reason GS may want him to walk. I'll tell you this, I see no way Baron is still in a GSW uniform after this season. Baron has always needed to be the man, he clashes with coaches. Him and Byron Scott didn't work and him with Nelson, in the long run, will not work. But since this is a contract year for Baron he needs to have a HELL of a season if he wants even 10M on his new contract.
I think GS knows the honeymoon with Baron is over and the divorce is inevitable, so they're thinking better start refocusing the nucleus of this team around Monta Ellis sooner than later. Not to mention a cool $17M off the books.
And me, personally, I don't want Baron on this team...unless he'll take MLE money, and Phil keeps him on a tight leash. _________________

Yeah, and the only reason I'd suggest him being here is because he respects Kobe like no other and might actually back down to him.
He said he'll name his kids "Kobe" and "Bryant" for crying out loud. _________________
